Rashid General Thread: Desert Storm - second new character

Rashid looks really cool. I like characters who are having some gadgets. I wished his scouter thing have some actual use in one of his moves and wouldn’t be just a cosmetic item.

Is the wind he uses coming from his backpack/jetpack or whatever it is?

Sagat eye patch is cosmetic no one cares

I like everything from the design down to the play style.

So I am guessing we won’t be seeing a Combofiend breakdown for this character :frowning:

Combofiend doesn’t seem to attend the overseas events. Can’t give a breakdown if he’s not there.

cr.hp, cr.lp is another possible link

I tried Rashid in Dreamhack , he is a fun character. His ex.DP are strike invincible only as I was grabbed out of it one time. His dashes are great, if you keep holding forward he continue to run. His crouching punch normal has a short horizontal range. His overhead is fast and go over lows from what I have seen. Overall he feels fresh and fun, he plays and feel nothing like El Furte, he has his own unique feel.

I want gameplay on this guy badly. Of the non “I am pressing every button and jumping all over the place” variety

Got to try the game at Call of Ragnarok. Rashid was by far the most fun character to play with. Lots of silly shit, mobility, and probably one of the most useful projectiles in the game at the moment. Karin wasn’t in the build, but out of the characters I tried, he’s currently the character I’m most likely to main. Which is weird, because he’s not the kind of character I usually play at all.

From my post on Neogaf. (Not the latest Karin build, so a few changes I bet):

Rashid stuff:

He definitley seem like he is built to frame trap, and land crush counters.
His crush counters are his st.hp which is a quick cancelable chop that causes massive hit stun, and his st.hk which is a backflip hop that goes over lows and causes the opponent to fly up in to the air, where you can follow up with uppercut or a sweep etc.

He does seem to struggle against characters with good normals, as he doesn’t have an eas y way to start momentum. His forward +mp is a forward moving 2 hitting slash, but it leaves him at slightly negative. On block you will get stuffed you try to challenge the opponent’s jab with our own. First of the 2 hits are cancelable. On hit, you can not combo or link out of the second hit, but now they have to respect your follow up.

His standing mk is a great spacing tool, but not cancelable.

his lp slash (qcf + lp is a good poke that leaves you at slight disadvantage on block and positive on block. If you mash throw after hitting with this, they will be thrown if they try to push a button. This means it is not more than +3 on hit.

st.mp is a great normal to cancel out of, but I think it is also a move that you can frame trap with on block. It moves him slightly forward, but most good buttons from other players will beat it, so it’s hard to get in to range to use this.

His fireballs are terrrible as a zoning tool sadly. The opponent can see the start up, dash forward, then jump over and still Rashid has not recovered. I think it is meant to be used in strings so that the opponent has to block it and you will have frame advantage, or get hit if they try to jump away. Hk tornado can be comboed out of with jabs, but this doesn’t work mid screen. Ex tornado can be comboed out of with st.mp. Thus st.hp/c.hp xx ex tornado, st.mp works.

His vtrigger has a lot of potential, and even if you can combo in to it from st.mp (Or maybe you have to use a heavy move don’t remember) I think it is meant to be done from far, to limit your opponent and to find a way to get in.

The vtrigger alters the momentum of every forward moving move that rashid has, and makes them safer in a lot of the cases. Examples:

If Rashid jumps through it, he will reach the opponent on the other sideof the screen in a flash, and the same goes for his vskill flip

If rashid does a slash through it, the movements gets bigger and he is safer, and it moves full screen fast.

If rashid vtrigger rolls through: full screen in a flash, but can be hit out of this easily.

if he does standing hk same thing: full screen crush counter baby!

forward+hp: full screen fast overhead, but punishable on blovk still I think?!

The best one though: his tatsu: flies full screen in a flash, beats lows, and because of the vtrigger Rashid gets sucked back to the other side of the screen again behind the tornado, so safe on block and in the position to do another one! He can do 3 or 4 of these before the tornado runs out.

forward + mp moves him forward further, but not full screen and not so fast.

I might be underestimating the frame advantage Rashid might get form the moves done thorugh vtrigger as it was hard to test.

All in all Rashid seems like an aggressive oriented character (Not zoning as I originally hoped for a little), but he does seem to lack the tools to get in safely. I might be bad though, but his moves seems to get him close but at disadvantage, and his vskills are mostly anti projectile (his flip is great against fireballers, where you flip and react with hk/2x kick) if they throw a fireball, or lk to cancel it if they don’t throw anything).

Edit: Just saw some footage from Karin build, and his c.mk seems to have much more range, so that will help him a lot!!
-Other thing I just noticed: His roll goes through attacks now too, and in the build I had he barely made it through projectiles!

Rashid looks pretty sick in this. He has a strong zoning game.

Mike Ross playing Rashid

Was it already noted that he gets momentum from all wind based attacks and not just his V-Trigger?

Wow that looks tough to react to. So fast.

Whoa I did not notice that.

Combofiend told Mike Ross too much lmao this is so sick. Rashids fireballs just became way more interesting.

Could you maybe stack up the speed with a fireball and V-trigger?

It’s funny to hear some say that he has a strong zoning game and others say his zoning isn’t that strong. His projectile covers a unique angle that deals with people moving forward and jumping in at the same time (as opposed to one or the other), which optimized should be tricky to get around if the frame data of it is decent enough. Be good to really find out.

Yeah, his projectile looks really tricky to use, but I also felt like it was more useful than the projectiles of the other characters I tried. Just an overall hard-to-use tool, I’d guess. Going to be fun to see if it’s possible to apply it in real matches, or if it’s just a gimmick that’s easy to get around.

He’s not a character it looks like you’ll ever want to do fireballs against, though, even more so than the rest of the cast.

All this anti fireball tech and stuff and no one to throw fireballs in the game so far… Seems weird tbh, there’s no Guile or Sagat or any one close just chuckin plasma all day so we’ll see. Maybe the last 2 characters will cover that.

Implying Arabs and Safavids are the same.

Yes, Rashid’s fireballs have terrrrrrible recovery as I mentioned before, but I noticed a few weeks back that he is able to cancel his fireballs in to v-skill (either roll or flip), which makes it harder to punish him for them, like seen in the Mike Ross video.

I still think that the fireballs are more meant to create momentum by making the opponent block them, than to zone. I really want to see if Rashid can combo after an anti air fireball though.

As for his anti fireball stuff: In the Rashid build that I played (The one before Karin), his roll was not easy to pass fireballs with, and you had to already be in the flip to counter a projectile with a divekick. I have heard later on that he can actually do his divekick from a normal jump tough, so that should be interesting.
