|| Rachel Alucard || "lolipop lolipop oooh loli loli lolipop"

I’m finally starting to get decent with Rachel. I win a bit more than I lose now, and I’m reasonably solid at controlling her. Now working on getting folks into frog more often, and capitalizing with Sword Iris when the situation arises.

As for the CS nerfs, it’s definitely a bummer. She’s definitely my favorite to play as of now. But hopefully it won’t be quite the rape it currently is. and supposedly she’s a bit less shitty in the new test. Got some of her frog combos back, and wind regenerates a little quicker. Hopefully they’ll work more back in.

she’s better than in the 1st loketest.

next one is this weekend, lets see what changes.

i’m liking what i’m seeing in those 2nd loketest vids.

Yesss, Rachel is playable again…!!

I’m aspiring to try Rachel, I don’t get how you use her normals, though. Or a lot of things.

im having some serious issues vs tagers. ive heard you should zone him with pumpkins and seeds but i get sledged then, or spark bolted from full screen so my whole game right now against him is based around counterhit fork pokes on his sledge start up. i pretty much cant win unless i get counter hits on tager. ive seen videos of rachel’s j.a,j.a,c,2c loop against tager, but im worried to get in too close in case i botch the execution of that and id like to win outside of loops. any advice?

this.

Tager is supposed to be an easy win for Rachel (so I hear) and I keep getting destroyed. Once he magnetizes you all you can do is Fork and pray.
He has high damage output so it’s a quick death at least…

Actually, it’s a combination of the two strategies that you should use, in general. When I first started playing, I was scared to death of Tager. lol. Looking at the general ratios, I thought the more experienced Rachel players that were posting them were batshit insane. However, quite a bit of practice (especially against Tagers with GTs: AxisTheBeast, CommanderofTroy, and Tofu Demon) - and I do mean a bit of practice, the basic ideas given as strats in the Rachel v Tager match definitely hold up.

What I tend to do is pressure > zoning, though depending on how you play you can do the reverse. It’s true that Tager can sledge through your projectiles - whether they be pumpkin or lobelia in nature. So, when you are playing the zoning game, only use your wind + pumpkin to bait and/or punish. J236a is your friend from full screen distance; super jump 214b followed by 236a/b/c depending on where Tager is will help you still play some zone while being too high to get hit by Sparkbolt.

When you are on the ground and have summoned your pumpkin (whether you keep the pumpkin at ground level or jump and summon it first) just let it float there and use your lobelias to bait sledges. Depending on how close the Tager is, you can either punish the sledge recovery with a winded pumpkin + rush in combo or, if he’s close enough, fork (6b) counterhit for even better damage.

I use the above only after pressure combos that leave me at a distance from Tager, though. I usually start the match with IAD ja, ja, jb, j2c, jc - which is usually blocked - and then a super jump air dash, j2c, jc to continue the pressure/land cross up and combo. If Tager is blocking, you work his guard libra. If he starts back dashing to avoid your ground strings on follow up, keep the pressure up as long as you can with air dashes and delayed ja or j2c,jc.

Remember to delay your 236b lobelia on the ground against Tager so that you have a chance at sword iris or BBL upon hit.

Ahh… following that, you can throw out George for fun, or jump/super jump 236a to force the Tager to deal with yet another seed flying in his face.

When he’s across the screen and has Sparkbolt, do your best to either bait it by playing run away, or stay up in the air to hopefully get him jittery and send the nasty projectile under you.

Be very wary of Magna Tech Wheel during pressure, though! That’s what always gets me killed vs. Axis. Too much pressure when not paying attention to a Tager meter is a bad thing. ^_^;

If you get him in the corner from one of your combos, you can actually frog combo him to some extent with a dash in 2b or 5b, 236a, but I tend to prefer letting him fall and delaying the frog to go for IAD/super jump IAD j2c,jc cross ups.

It is definitely a good match up for Rachel… you just have to play her smart. =B

Wow, I can’t win more than 2 entire games as Rachel, this is haaard.

It gets easier, I’ve managed to noob my way through a lot of matchs with liberal abuse of j.2c and her basic 5b,5b,5c+D,5C,{236b,632146C,jb,jc,dj,jb,jc,236a} or {214a} in the corner and I know that she can be used MUCH more effectively then that.

I’ve been advised to learn her frog combos and use the pumpkin a lot more if that’s any help, sounds like those are really important to her game.

I can’t even noob my way yet. XD I’m just… fairly lost

ja is an instant overhead against Tager.
That’s why you see it in vids.
All Rachel’s normals pretty much stomp Tagers by the way.

At mid range fork > anything Tager has.

Once your in just lock him down with pressure strings and make him scared to retaliate with frog combos and BBL set ups.

I’m new to Rachel but this seems pretty solid.

You CAN just full screen zone him and bait sledge by throwing lobelias and winding pumpkin on his recovery after he sledges through lobelia to make an opening if you’re having trouble. Just watch out for Tager’s projectile because it hurts. However he realistically only has one shot at you while you have all day to screw with him.

Its been about 2.5 months since I really paid attention to this thread. For people still having trouble actually USING Rachel:

-You can never watch enough youtube videos. Watching is part of the process, but actually SEE what they do. I know it sounds dumb but I would often watch high level videos but I wouldnt understand what was going on.
-You have to know the exact range of her attacks

These two things alone have made me super comfortable with her. I used to feel like she was useless without silpheed, but then I started fucking around with her in practice WITHOUT using it and I feel a lot more knowledgeable on what Rachel is capable of.

-Also…im sure its old news, but doing a full 360 for her distortion is alot easier than trying the HCB+F motion if you have a hard time really hitting the front and back directions very accurately.

-Cancelling frog/bat out of pumpkin > D needs to be second nature. The only reason you DONT need too do frog/bat IMMEDIATELY after throwing a pumpkin is if you are combing or using corner pressure tactics. And heres a little juice:

my favorite blockstring mixups/pressure:

  • B+D > C > C > 236A (no shit)
  • B+D > C > RC > throw <<<<< disgusting
  • B+D > C > 3C
  • B+D > C > 6C x j.236C > (land) throw
  • B+D > C > 6C > RC > j.A > (land) 6A > B…

Really the possibilities are endless. It all depends on how long your opponent wants to turtle. Im trying to work in j.2C somewhere in this pressure. I actually dont feel comfortable hanging out on the opposite side of the screen against some characters.

I forgot how to program moves in practice mode for the AI to do…

Yah, any vid recommendations? For a 100% crap Rachel?

Yeah they’re all in the sticky topic. Lots of beasty Rachels.

Another thing, Rachel isnt “hard” to use. And most of you are probably good Rachels, better than me im sure. Its just that she doesnt have a D button to spam like 75% of the cast so she has to really REALLY play smart because a lot of damage can be done quickly.

I need some help myself:
-Noel D spam is still annoying me. I know shes open after the flip if she tries to dash forward for with the low sweep. So I usually wait for the flip to attack. Free CH 6B stun…combo, rinse repeat. My problem is stopping the other D rushes. Help!

-iAD jump ins. What. THE. FUCK. Dont tell me 236B is one of my only options. 6A’s reach is TOO short on characters like Jin.

My single biggest problem is keeping them from dashing in the air like idiots mashing attacks. Rach doesnt have a conventional anti-air so its a little hard to control the skies with theres no bats or pumpkins on the stage.

I don’t have any particular advice on IAD but I think kro_'s guide is really developing well. He breaks down rachel combos covering different scenarios.

here’s an excerpt:

http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7488

For Noel, you can pretty much block most of her moves and punish with 5b. So, yeah. Do that. Her drive is hella unsafe unless it’s something silly like 5d -> 236d. If they’re super reckless you can just mash out cat chair for a CH and air combo from there, though I usually wind them away and start zoning.

Rachel doesn’t have a conventional anti-air?
wut
She has the best anti-air in the game. 6a is beasty. lol

Its got a huge hit box, super armor, and you can even use it to cancel the opponents projectiles (Jin’s ice swords come to mind).

Other than that, always keep a pumpkin out and wind it during their jump in for a free momentum switch.

Well I meant she doesnt have a “special” anti-air. Her anti-air is a normal.

Its neither here nor there. Its a great move, just not much of a use for Jin’s j.C what has super long reach.

What is this super armor that you speak of?

rachel 6a has guard points is what he means, i use it to kill bang nails and ice blades

you can also use 2c, 2c counter hit, 2d,5b,sj babc etc etc is nice damage.

you can also use 2c to stop supers that would otherwise chip you to death like ice wave super and whatever you call hakumen’s super.
