Regardless… So erm… here’s a good question. Yes, it’s fun to throw out the astral finishes on the last round… though I do havfe to ask a couple of things.
More questions to the creators than anything else…
Why… should someone use a full bar in order to do a move that is relatively easy to see coming (Glowy lights, omfg moment, etcetera) when your special will take that last 20% off their life without having to use the bar and being capable of still moving/attacking/pressuring while doing it?
Now mind you, I’ve killed alot of scrubs using my astral finish just to show off, but I would imagine that it should be more useful than that… I mean, honestly, I’ve seen the astrals used very sparingly online, I don’t know if people can just not do them, don’t care to, don’t expect it… or whatever the case. I mean, alot of them are very specific in their uses (Tager’s throw can be jumped from range, I think?, Rachel’s has limited range and long startup, Bang’s is really fraggin’ hard to get to connect, etcetera)
Thoughts? Comments?
Though as a final note, on Rachel’s, as I stated above, you can use Silpheed DURING the animation in order to pull your opponent into the red zone for the instant kill.
i always thought of astral finishes as basically a taunt that kills ur enemy. its more insulting than anything else. they basically have to plan to save up for the astral finish in order to take out the last 20% of someones life during the FINAL ROUND of an intense battle. Its just a way of showing superiority imo
Well some have decent setups, I think. Hakumen’s is a counter, but if the opponent has <20% health and you have 100% tension you could do his DD counter and not risk fucking up the 720, and still kill your opponent either way.
But yeah, most seem like they won’t see the light of day.
Here’s something completely random…we all know that Rachel is one of the hardest characters to use in the game, but I’m so excited because yesterday I took a lot of you guys’ advice and started incorporating more 2C from the air and that has made a HUGE difference in how I play and how other people play me. About 80% of the time, if I’m in the air and 2C from the air (especially bum-rush characters like Ragna, Noel and Jin) I get a knockdown and it’s all gravy from there. If they don’t tech from the fall, I normally pull off a 2B, B, 6C D, or if they do tech, they expect me to go low and go in for 2C again from the air. If anyone is not using Rachel’s 2C from the air, please do, it really makes fighting in close bearable! Thanks for the advice guys (you know who you are)!
Yeah, I completely get the title Flamingo! Hilarious! When I saw the movie, it wasn’t bad up until that point. Once I saw my man glittering in the sunlight, I lost it. I couldn’t stop laughing at the gayness of it all. So lemme get this straight…you don’t go to school when the sun’s out because you…um…shimmer?
Change is good. I like this title for now, but AG can do with it what he wants. There were a few of us that really got a kick out of it on IRC so I changed it haha
I’ll change it back to its original after another week or so. I wasn’t going to since Flamingo did it, but if you guys like it so much, I can put it back later.
Anybody else besides me use 6A 5B 632146C 6C 8D j.C in corner? Shit does massive damage and looks sick as hell. Was just wondering… Also anyone have problems catching Carl with it? I think the fucker is to small for all the hits from 6C 8D to hit.
I love this combo great that I can start it off 6B counter hit as well.
I usually would rather throw out a frog and pressure with j.2C or the 6B poke instead. Once I have them on the ground and in the corner, I don’t like putting them in a position where they can air-recover forward out of the corner.
“I like to kick ass, and drink tea… and my tea’s not quite ready yet.”
Okay, so just a general question to all you who main everyone’s favorite loli: I was playing earlier, and my RTSD Noel nearly got shut down by a high-pressure Rachel. I don’t even think this guy realized what he was doing, because when I asked him about it he said he was still learning. He had some great ideas though. For example, he pressed into me with wind and used a mixup of shorthop j2C with 6C or the move where she spins around (2B, I think?), and if I tried to air tech out she’d use the chair, or a backdash -> fork if I tried to roll out. She seriously almost had me; it was beautiful.
So here’s my question (finally): Is it possible to play Rachel using rushdown tactics? It just seemed like a really attractive concept to me, and she’s already got such great methods of controlling the stage that discovering she can rush it like they owe her money would just be too sweet for me. Any ideas?
Dear lord, yes, she can rush down, but she does it slightly different than the other characters. Wait for a setup in order to initiate it before rushing in… beat down with Rachel is spectactular. Use your 3DC/J.2C crossup on your opponents when you have them up close, mix up with aircombos at your leisure, combocombocombo until c-c-c-combo breaker and then start it up again.
Mix up held 3DC with the occasional cancel into setting frog. Their conditioned arse will more than likely sit and block expecting the followed up sweep and instead get frog pressured. At that point, switch up with either j.2C overhead or if you feel saucy, throw into 6D for wallbounce and rushdown again. <3
Edit: Also, set out batpoles early on and leave them in place until chance to detonate during combo… don’t use them by themselves. It’s better to force your opponent to hotfoot across the stage and have the potential than to use them as standalone weapons. Pumpkin during rush-in to force blockstring or open them up.
Now that gave me some great ideas. She sets it up the dominoes, waits until he knocks them over, and then rushes in for a quick kill. She retreats when it’s over, and sets it up again. Good mindgame strategy there.
You know, watching a good Rachel is like watching a storm come in. You see the dark clouds rolling in, and you know what’s coming – but all you’re able to do is just wait until it hits you and pray you get through okay.
Haha! That was me LoL… Thanks for the compliments though, I just really think that I’m progressing a little slower than expected. I have really been trying to adjust my style of play for this game. I’ve never been a RTSD type of person and always relied on a sense of zoning from playing CvS2 and SF4<–(Dhalsim)
But she most definitely has an AWESOME high-low pressure game. I really need to take in account on putting more frogs in my game though. But damn man, you have a nice Noel yourself. I just don’t truly have a firm grasp of the defensive aspects of the game just yet. Such as when to attack when pressured and stuff. Litchi would be a perfect example.
