ya it’s hard enough to dash in this game as it is (IMO) without having to do 22A. also 22A isn’t one of the one button moves that you can assign, otherwise even though I’m agaist 1 button specials, I would be using it for sure
In the same vein as the above question, when you do this combo:
5B > 6CDC > 214A > dash 3C (1 or 2 hits) > 236A > 214B > 3C
Is the input window to do the final pumpkin and 3c just really small? I’ve gotten this once after spending maybe an hour or two attempting it. Should I just keep banging away on it until I get it?
Also, doing 234A after a 3C(1 hit) I keep getting 22A. I usually wait for 2 hits but I think that might push them too far away.
anyway to combo into astral :] ~ ?
no, and astral heats are terrible anyway.
lol I was actually messing around with astrals earlier today. Sadly, it’s impossible to combo into at all. Rachel’s astral is ridiculously slow on startup, and the range is terrible.
The only way (that I know of) to land a guaranteed astral is to barrier crush your opponent in the corner (can’t be done by bursting in their face, if you do this the astral will not hit them) and then activate the astral as quickly as possible. Even so, it’s pretty much impossible to land in a match if your opponent is playing seriously at all. Maybe if you really want to embarrass someone you can try it lol.
what the heck is 234A
Whoops, meant 236A
Alright so after 200 ranked matches I’m sitting at 56% with a record 112-88, garbage I know. I am getting more comfortable with most of the match ups though.
Spamming Noels still fuck my shit up though. What is Rachel’s best poke to stop Noel in the middle of D spam? Chair is good I know, but does she have any quick pokes for this specific situation?
Doesn’t mean they aren’t satisfying to land !
I was thinking that maybe in the corner it may work, but yeah…the start up is brutal. landing it on scrubs (not that im not one lawl !) is real easy tho =D. They are attracted to the red light like mosquitos :chat:
Hm, not really.
Just block. Watch for Assault Through (cross-up), you can IB and punish that if she doesn’t RC.
Hello, Rachel thread. This is a shameless plug for the Rachel-off event at Evo where all of the Rachel players round robin mirror matches until they give up/kill themselves/decide who is best!
Make it happen!
$10 on this
Okay, so I got the game 3 days ago, and decided I would try to main Rachel right away. I thought her playstyle was really unique and I just really wanted to try her. That being said, she is pretty hard to play so me starting out with her is probably not the best option, but I am going to keep playing Rachel anyways.
So I have been able to make relatively good use of her bat poles. I usually detonate them at the right times to get my opponents. I have been running into some issues though…
-
I can hardly ever get out a decent combo with her. I know how to do her combos, but they are hard to apply in a regular match because my opponents are rarely open. I usually can only land a combo if I counter with 6b. So is there any way to work in Rachel’s big damaging combos in a regular match? And if you have any really good ones let me know =)
-
The next problem I have been having…well it sort of ties into my first one. When people get in my face, I lose. I can be at almost full health and my opponent is at almost none, but I still lose if they get in my face.
A couple of other things… ’

I can never use George XIII well. How do you use him correctly?
-
I also fail to see the use of her wind controlled pumpkin (it’s real name escapes me at the moment.) I see all of the good Rachel players using it in videos, so there must be something I’m missing.

I’ve been having the hardest time getting in hits after the super jump in the above combo, or any combo that invovles a launch really. Tips?
Any other tips you guys got for me would be really appreciated, since I’m trying to improve my game in all ways, feel free just to give me general tips as well.
Thanks for reading…I know it is long xD
first of all, I’m a newbie Rachel as well, however one thing I can say about the pumpkin is that you have to learn to use it. I started off like you, thinking it’s not all that useful. Recently though, I find that I play better if I use the pumpkin well, as that allows me to safely approach the opponent while opening up for combo opportunities.
it’s probably because you aren’t jump canceling the 5B into your super jump. You perform the super jump before for the move finishes, rather than waiting until the move is over and then jumping… that will make it too slow. Pretty much as soon as you do the 5B, press down then up right away.
How do you guys approach people in this game? I’m starting to get the idea I have no idea what im doing. I used to main V-13 but came to the conclusion i’ll prolly never learn this game if I just stand back and use DD 4DD 236D RC DD 6DD 2DD j.DD dj.2DD 214D all day and started Rachel yesterday and im just getting smashed. I know basic bnbs but honestly it doesnt matter because I have no idea how to get them started. I never seem to get an opportunity to attack. Ive seen Rachels use the pumpkin to get in but are there any other ways?
Are any Rachels willing to play me a few games and give feedback on my playstyle? Im in dire need of help. Theres nothing more frustrating than losing to spammy jins and noels because I dont know when to counter / get in to start my bnbs : (

Use the pumpkin like the Rachels you are watching. I would always try to have one out on the field.
Pumpkin lets you get in for offense.
Stops opponent from rushing (or spamming ice car)
Lets you set poles and george. (you can wind the pumpkin while you are laying these objects)
Protects George
You may have to jump or airdash backwards to get the opportunity to get the pumpkin out, but once its out , you’re in control…most of the time.
Don’t waste your wind. When I first started it felt like wind was unlimited but its far from it. I only wind lobelias if I think I’ll catch them off guard and combo to super.
If I’m low on wind Ill call the pumpkin (always first), george, and then Ill start lobbing unwinded rods until the wind gauge builds back up or they break through the lobelias and I need to wind the pumpkin.
When you are rushing try to break their defense with j.3cd (high), 2b (low), 5b j.3cd (quick hit to overhead), or 5b 3c (quick hit to low and then use 9d to combo)
Once you get your offense down and use of the pumpkin you wont get rushed as much, but it will still happen. Don’t panic and try to mash your way out. Counter hits hurt a lot more than normal hits. Just think of rachels own 6b.
Staying patient also helps you recognize the strings better so you can block them easier in the future. Also jump backwards against pressure before it gets there if you can. If ragna knocked you down and is running towards you, jump away if you can, dont stand there and try to block the high low if you don’t have to.
If you are blocking something like noel d spam that doesnt really get pushed back with barrier guard, I use 2c, but its pretty easy now to see the big overhead coming.
But yeah, abuse the pumpkin
Im still losig to scrub ass tactics. Ragna, Jin, Nu and Noel. its really getting stale now.
They just rush rush rush rush…I cant keep them off me. B too slow. I just dont know what the fuck to do. That wont stay back.
Backdash, use your 6B poke ---- get the counter-hit stagger, rush them down and 5B, 6C+D, C, 236B, 22A (or 632146C)… throw out a pumpkin… turn the tides and rush them down. If they’re rushing you down that hard, they’re probably not blocking enough either.
If you’ve got the meter and they’re rushing you down, you could always dead-angle too.
Avoid your 4B like the plague… this is the slowest move in the history of mankind. It’s easy to accidentally throw it out when you’re on defense and trying to turn the tide.
Also, don’t forget about the electric chair. Yeah it’s risky, but you might as well throw it out if you really think there’s nothing else you can do, or if you think your opponent won’t be expecting it. Maybe I’m just lucky, but this move has saved my life way too many times.
And it works amazingly well on scrubs. I beat some drive-spamming Noel player using NOTHING but the chair, somehow he got hit by it every single time. <_< Wish I had remembered to save the replay T_T
