R.Mika Matchup: 'cus pro wrestling is... the very BEST!

There isn’t any “shut Chun down during her more-than-likely once per round power-up” move. Just block hard, punish cheeky crap, and don’t back-off if you score a knock-down.

Against chun, you legit can’t just block a heavy and v-reversal? Like that should be the strat all day. Almost all of her heavies have at least 15f of recovery, so as long as you hit the v-reversal early enough, it should create some space, reduce your stun, and you can backdash (hopefully there isn’t a corner behind you).

Just had a couple of sets with a Cammy and i’m not quite sure how the “matchup” should go, but in general it seems like Mika’s really good up close and moving in and out of Cammy’s throw range. Although most of her normals are +1/+2 on block, she has quick walk speed and what seemed like a crazy throw range. So don’t be afraid to stop her forward movement with cr.lk, st.lk or st.mp. The Cammy I played really liked to mash cr.mk, and st.mk. If you want to get in a poking war with Cammy you can do so with:
[] st.mk will beat both Cammy’s cr.mk and st.mk. It’ll also beat out cr.hk whenever she throws it out since it crushes lows
[
] cr.mk will beat both pretty clean, the hitboxes seem to warp when i did it in Training mode, both Cammy’s st.mk and cr.mk must have some hella wide hurtboxes on her lower body

v-reversal if done on the absolute first frame, can beat both st.mk and cr.mk, I don’t “think” Cammy has enough time to punish the v-reversal with throw, but she may recover soon enough to cannon spike/Super since v-reversal telegraphs hardcore.
Along with this if you get the st.mk CH, go for ex.sp to end the poke war or link her CA. The Cammy i played also really liked to mash cr.lp on wakeup, so be sure to be out of range for that since most of Mika’s knockdowns that aren’t deep in corner or after dream driver end up with Mika at a disadvantage after she dashes. You knock them down, hang back, then st.hp to whiff punish the throw (Cammy may be able to punish with cr.lk). The setup for quick-rise after Mika’s dream driver works on Cammy; charging st.hk for the CC punish seemed more consistent than dashing forward f+hp to me. If Cammy ever does the hooligan combo, either stay grounded with cr.mk/st.hp or go for wingless. I was able to fullscreen v-skill (just tap, not hold) and when Cammy attempted to punish with ex.hooligan I was able to recover in time to ex.wa.

Personally, it was tough to keep control of the match since i was always worried about the meterless invincible DP and letting Cammy take her turn since her normals are so positive, but i think it works both ways. Contrast with Karin, who needs meter, so once she loses her meter. Mika’s in control when it comes to Oki.

I like cr. HP vs cammys who like to poke…good times.

My god, Karin is such a nightmare, it’s like she can do what she wants in the match, I think it is even worse than Bison, FML

If someone can help me on these Karin matches, please let me read some comments. I already know some of my flaws but I want to know what do you have to say anyways. Thanks on advance!

approach karin from the air, we talked about it in past couple pages. Abuse her wakeup w/ f. hp until she has meter(even then u can bait it)

rekka karin is punishable(jabs if nothing else), poke karin is a bit trickier

Personally, for karin i like to stay to the ground and whiff punish her st.mk which karin players like to use a lot in neutral. when i see a st.mk whiff i do st.hp into hp peach. and once i get them close enough to the corner i just wait for her to jump, anti-air, then i go in. where i have trouble is when i get cornered by karin. im not sure if Mika can punish her sweep at max range. and meaty cr.mp is a nightmare…

I hear ya, it is like I can’t press anything and get carried to the corner when it is suppoused that I should be doing that

ex wingless is invincible if u wanna get out the corner that bad, vreverse

The problem here isn’t Mika or Karin, it’s your fundamentals. Watch that reply yourself and note where you took damage and when you didn’t maximize your combo potential. Some obvious stuff:
[]Pressing buttons on wake-up when Karin has advantage
[
]Using unsafe strings or moves (case in point: so many blocked passion presses)

Not finishing combos or failing to execute punishes
It goes on, but man, just calm down and watch your opponent. And really, hit the lab and get your combos down to the point where you know how to maximize every time.

I was going to say this same thing. You play at a level that is only slightly below me, so I can relate. Practice getting your dashes after passion press, that didn’t just drop a lot of damage in that match, but it also dropped a lot of control. The passion press c.hk ex.peach is a very important move. It gives you damage, gets them to the corner, and gives you some advantage.

Also one of the tougher things to learn about SF5 is turns. When it’s not your turn, don’t press buttons. There are so many characters that are + on many normals, so it’s tough to just jab out of anything. I used to get a lot of traction off of doing a jab mp frame trap. Now people know to just block stuff haha. I have to learn it too.

st.mp is your friend against karin

Thanks for these tips, its just sometimes I don’t know when is my time to attack, and I feel like she has so many bad matchups, like Nash as well.

I recognize some of my mistakes, as well as not maximizing damage on certain punishes, but you gotta tell it’s hard with her in clutch times so you gotta be on point with that, not just like other characters like Cammy where you just crouch and press mp. Mika is so special on her gameplay, it’s like you’re controlling a monster, the best character ever, the most funny to use, until you face Nash, Cammy, Sim or Karin.

Is there an OS for rope throw or anything similar? I’m having problems missing it and getting exposed so many times on wiff.

Thanks again! I’ll upload more loses against Nash later.

karin really isn’t that bad. Nash/Sim are pretty freakin’ bad, honestly, I think u should just find a training partner if you don’t understand that mika/karin fight. Body slamming her is so much fun! I’ve been watching high level replays personally

Just stick with it and it’ll click eventually - focus on retaining self-control through the whole match.

There is (apparently) an OS for press, but it’s really unforgiving (input the second mp on the last cancel frame), so better to just learn when it’s likely to be safe to pop one out. She can get respectable damage off regular poking in the mid-screen, so don’t sweat it. The more experienced you get, the better you’ll be at using the press at the right times. If you haven’t watched NativeImpact play her, check him out - he’s got a solid gameplan mixed in with risk and gimmick to good effect and will definitely help you refine your ideas.

One other thing I picked up in the meta of your games was your change in style over the course of the rounds. If you watch the first few exchanges then fast-forward to about 2 minutes (middle of the 3rd round) it’s fucking chaos by comparison. That confidence you started with seemed to just evaporate - definitely something to be aware of.

Oh yes, it’s just sometimes I can’t press anything against those characters, specially Nash, even when I think I can throw something at a certain distance. I added more videos to the list I posted, it has some Nash matches as well if you want a good laugh.

Any tips for the Claw match up? I’m so free to mediocre Claws and should just wave the white flag when playing high level Claws.

claw u need to get in his face, he outranges you, pretty much same gameplan tho

You could put the dummy on random guard and practice hit confirming into the rope throw from a stmp

What to do against rashid? Looking at rashids frame data, I don’t think mika has anything to contest his buttons. She can’t approach him safely either and he is hard to keep in the corner if you manage to get him there. Unlike the rest of the cast, he has the most options to escape being cornered. I personally think the match is a nightmare, but that is just me. Maybe I’m overlooking something. I have yet to see anyone mention the rashid match up. So I’m curious what others think.

eagles strikes are unsafe. I remember specifically from watching high level mika play, there’s alot of jumping going on by both characters. He’s such a rare character its hard to say WHAT to do against him, but there’s always replays.
