So any tips against a defensive Necalli. A friend of mine will literally sit there and press either st.mp or cr. mp whenever I try to go in on him. If I play patient, he’ll throw out seismos every now and then and if I’m aggro then he’ll dp at the most unfortunate times for me. I’m really at a loss here.
Necalli is a bit tricky. I say the best way to approach him is to try to catch something with passion press. If he is turtling with St. MP and cr. MP then you can cr. HP your way through. The optimal range is just outside of his range.
Another great method is to get in via a V-reversal. Let him do a block string into stomp and V-reversal it. After a successful V-reversal you get a free 50/50 mixup.
The unfortunate truth about this match up is how much you have to guess on his wake up. Between his St. Jab and DP it can be hard to get your game going. The other issue is that his pressure can wreck you.
If he is spamming HK then you can try whiff punishing that with a passion press or a st.HP into peach.
I did some testing today with Mika’s midscreen normal Brimstone into dash forward oki and found out that there are a lot of characters that Mika can’t combo two lights into LP Shooting Peach on if they backdash on wakeup. There are a grand total of four characters which that meterless combo works on - Zangief, Chun, Birdie, and Balrog. LP Shooting Peach will fail to combo on everyone else. Against Cammy, Urien, and M. Bison, st.LP and cr.LP whiff whiff entirely after cr.LK so you can’t even do cr.LK, st.LP xx EX Shooting Peach. This all means the only way to reliably punish backdash against those characters after midscreen normal Brimstone is st.LK xx st.MP xx MP Shooting Peach.
Yeah, funny how i was just testing that couple of days ago. At first i was always checking with a st.MP to punish wakeup buttons but backdashes would cause a reset so that annoyed me. Now I just do TC after a brimstone or at least a st.LK, st.LP into something. It really sucks since TC is -5 IIRC so a weary opponent can definitely punish it.
I am having a huge problem against season 2 urien. Once he starts pressuring it’s hard for me to get out and his +2. Cr.mk on block is no help.
Urien is tough no matter what because he can keep you out due to his longer limbs and his general ability to wreck your day. This was as true in S1 as S2. And unlike most characters you can’t mic against him to pull out people who want to stay away from Mika as far as possible and generally be a zoning nuisance. A trick I had found to be at least a little useful was mixing up 6mk with medium peach since at certain ranges its fairly safe to do and the reward is get in. The 6mk can beat most of his buttons that require him to close in on you. Over all though if you don’t anti air him, your going to lose.
You gotta challenge after his F.MP. It is -2 and most Urien players will follow this up with a cr.LK, throw or cr.MK. All of them at least will leave him at quite the gap so gotta challenge after it. The worst that can happen is eating an overhead which isn’t that bad unless he is in V-trigger. I say challenge with cr.LP and you will likely land a counter hit.
Urien is also one of the characters who you CAN cr.HP against since he doesn’t have a 3 frame move and after it a cr.LP would trade at worst. DO NOT try to neutral jump to bait his stupid EX headbutt, god know that thing is almost unpunishable on whiff. Just use cr.LK and hold back and you should be able to block in time if he does it.
It is an annoying as hell matchup for sure.
Anyone got anything on Ibuki ? This one might prove to be problematic.
