from what it sounds like, people just didn’t bother to learn the matchup(something that happens early in game cycles). Doesn’t really help our case as hard working mikas
Learning a matchup takes time. Making a mental note of each characters most unsafe and easily punishable moves should take maybe an afternoon. Fuck, someone already basically did that. If some top player can’t be assed to spend six and a half minutes to familiarize themselves on something really basic like this then I have zero sympathy when they get blown up. Additionally when it comes to learning the matchup Mika along with several other characters have things where if I see someone bitching about one of those things I feel that I can safely disregard anything that person has to say on the matchup (usually more whining) because they clearly haven’t done their homework; e.g. The several people in SFV GD who seem to think that charged s.HK is some kind of ‘Win’ button because obviously a move with 35f startup only 1 active frame and surprisingly poor recovery if it misses is somehow the best move evarr!!! -_-
I’m with you. But my point is I’ve seen this before in SFIV and mahvel, where people don’t care/don’t learn a matchup and get blown up. Hubris at its finest.
check the matchup thread. Bully her on wakeup. Be super aggressive. V-reverse.
Glad it’s still there in some form. I really do think it’s a neat mix up option that can lead to some explosive come backs. Just need to get that initial hit.
Had the good fortune to play five matches against Majorboy’s Chun-Li in Battle Lounge. I lost the first four matches but somehow managed to win the last one. Feels pretty good.
Back after being away for a few days. I took in the NCR hype though.
I think Marn was pretty good. I actually liked his use of s.hk as a poke/counter-poke tool. I also feel like he proved that you can use EX Peach to disrespect people more often than I thought.
One thing I wanted to point out, though, was that he was using a lot of c.hp to reset after PP mid-screen. More than once he was trying to use follow-ups that weren’t actually traps in that situation (Mika is only +2) and got called out by savvy opponents. For this reason, I wanted to point out that I think this reset is better in the mid-screen:
PP, back dash, jump forward, jf.hp (reset)
This is at least +11, and gives enough frames to walk forward and trap into a meaty f+hp. If you want to reset mid-screen, I think this should be considered the default stronger option.
In the same vein, I also liked how Fuudo was just going straight into the HK Wingless after mid-screen PP. I never really liked the fact that it’s not always good for positioning, but I have a new appreciation for any combo ending in Wingless after doing my meaty set-up research, because I realized Mika’s pressure game after one is much more powerful than what she gets after a sweep or Peach, for example.
Another thing I’ve noticed watching Fuudo play recently was the way he uses meter. I’ve been trying to think myself what the strongest strategy for it is. EX Peach corner carry? EX Wingless damage? CA? Reversal CA? Fuudo seems to be using it a lot to have EX Peach punish on deck, in particular in the match-ups against shotos that like to block-string into fireballs. It’s also better in the neutral and poking game than I’d have thought, but because of s.mp. On hit s.mp leaves you at +7, which is enough to hit-confirm and link into an EX Peach. This is surprisingly strong in whiff-punishing and counter-poking situations, because it gives a good amount of corner-carry on hit. Fuudo seemed to be trading the EX Peach corner-carry follow ups to mid-screen PP situations (instead using the strong post-Wingless mix-up I mentioned), and instead seems to prefer sitting on it in order to have access to EX Peach for punishment situations.
I think this is a fairly intelligent meter management strategy - any other thoughts on this (or other) meter management related strategies for Mika?
Doing Survival Normal will unlock colors 4, 5, and 6 for whatever costume you were using in that run. So unfortunately, if you want to unlock colors for other costumes, you’ll have to run the survival mode again in those different costumes
I played fourth beta and Hype doesn’t seem to be that useful. Has /anyone/ found a use for it as it is? Sometimes it makes for decent shenanigans if you can read a sweep or a slow air attack, but I am sort of disappointed it doesn’t help deal with fireballs like it seemed it was intended for during the initial reveal.
I like the format, though disagree with most of his selections. Totally gunna yoink the idea for my own purposes.
I have a request. I’ve been gathering together data for the inevitable Alex match up thread, but if someone makes it before me could they call it ‘Alexplain it to you planely’? I’ve been holding in this pun for days and want it to be put to good use ;~;
