R.Mika General Thread: She's Stone Cold

Huh, so I really was just lucky in the betas. That’s really strange.

I’ve had terrible luck with meaty anything other than mk. Dunno if my timing is just bad, or if it’s the lag…maybe both. Need more practice.

Its a 3 frame command grab. Well, 1+2

Not as good as geifs (1+0) but second best is fine.

I am having the opposite ‘luck’ even though my lps are still low I’ve been getting higher level players and constantly get the lp beat out of me ~_~. Its just a factor of release day. Things will even out in a month or so and ‘where people belong’ will start to settle.

Lol

Does anyone have an updated frame data doc to look at for Mika?

So it seems like Mika is a terrible character to get back into SF with. Her lack of range is really killing me, and landing the charged HK on people with good footsies or anyone who won’t stop jumping is next to impossible. I just can’t get any resets going. People are already saying she’s bottom tier and I’m tempted to move on to a different character, at least until I’m good enough at the game to pick lower tiers and not get demolished. Or am I missing something here?

If you’re not having fun with her after a few days then try another character and come back to this one in a few months when people figured her out more with optimal stuff(I wouldn’t believe any tier lists right now it’s just too soon.)

She does somewhat have T-Rex arms compared to most of the cast but she’s not bottom tier IMO. Top notch anti-airs, above average oki/knockdowns, slightly above average damage, extreme corner carry, and a command grab range that makes people cry foul at times keep her afloat. If she had ridiculous footsie options and buttons she’d be top tier so it evens out.

If you’re not very successful in the mix-up game on knockdown though I would probably suggest a character like Chun or Karin who have amazing buttons.

Well don’t pick Laura. They say she is a crappier Mika.
Don’t believe everything people say. The game has been out for two days. And besides balance changes are going to come eventually. So you can either play who you like or follow sanford kelly’s advice.

Didn’t work against gief in stage 27 (normal).

I don’t see alot of mika players abusing f + mp and confirming into the throw. That move is AMAZING. Perfect for whiff punishes

Any tips for the chun, nash, and cammy matchups?

From my testing I don’t see how you can hit-confirm raw f+MP > MP without committing. It’s basically instant.

If you mean just in general using it as a punish, oh yes it’s a very nice punish with great range.

I beat Normal Gief by just using f.HP into qcf K the entire time. He he didn’t even touch me. Necalli at 29 is a totally different beast though.

im streaming again if anyone is down to watch… probably doing an all nighter

You can combo of that via a meaty f+mp to her target combo

Also it stuffs alot of Oki options

R.Mika is ‘bottom tier’. I will agree with this, but only in a very particular sense. R.Mika, like all grapplers requires reads and punishing to win. She cannot be played mindlessly. Like all grapplers her moves are tailored to do well by reading people and baiting them. But by virtue of what ‘top tier’ is, ie ‘someone with buttons that win against other peoples buttons more than the others,’ she cannot be.

Honestly, SFV is made so well that ‘bottom tier’ doesn’t mean the same as it did in SFIV. I really doubt you will see any of the current characters getting no play time in tournaments. By my assessment no character here is below a C+ and that very fact says a lot of how well balanced this game is.

So yeah, I think we should admit as a community that R.Mika’s buttons are not that good in the sense that they are ‘winners’, and if you aren’t good at reads or baiting you’ll have a hard time using her effectively. But from my own experience I have found that playing her has helped me a lot in terms of learning how to punish and read the opponent in this game, so I don’t think she is ‘unusable by beginners’. The grapplers just teach different fundamentals than say a Ryu or a Cammy will.

One thing I never understood when it comes to grapplers is what’s the purpose of regular throw when you have command grabs. Is it just to tech your opponents throws?

Regular throw is more safe on whiff.
If you didn’t get him with a command throw, they have more time to punish you for it compared to a regular throw.

I just can’t win with R. Mika right now, but I want to main her more than the rest of the cast right now.

I switch to Ryu or Ken in casuals and I can usually beat whoever is bodying me while im playing R.Mika.

I just need to stick with her, she’s very tough to use. All her confirms are very difficult because they happen so quick. Especially in lag (which is all I get in battle lounge). I need to find a way to apply my SF fundamentals to her. I am getting bullied by pretty much the whole cast, I always get counter hit too.
