I’ve never met Dasrik, but we used to talk often online back in the day. It’s depressing to hear he’s gone, but the one ray of light is that he is no longer in pain.

Rest in peace my friend, you are in a better place now.

I’ve known Rick on the internet since about 1996 from early video game message boards that were more imageboards than actual discussion boards. All the way from there to AGSF2, his own board, Sailor Moon fanboards, AIM, SRK, live meetups, tournaments (from Pentland all the way up to Evo), just to hang out. On and on and on.

The whole time I knew him and basically his whole life, he was living with health problems and it was always right around the corner. I can’t know what he was going through on the inside, but I know how he handled himself around his friends and for that, I’m glad. Where a lot of other people would have just put their heads down and waited for it to end, Rick went out and lived his life and didn’t let health problems get him down. He wanted to go hang out with the guys, he went. He wanted to go travel thousands of miles from home to hang out with some chick, he went. He wanted to play Marvel at SHGL, he went. One year when things weren’t looking so good (2004 I think), he was spending most of his time in a wheelchair. But he wanted to go to Evo and hang out and compete a little, so he went. There are even a bunch of pictures of people popping wheelies in his chair while he’s looking on smiling. Other people might get pissed at that and think it’s disrespectful, but there he is in the picture smiling. Having fun with his friends, not letting his health beat him, even though things were looking bad.

That’s what Rick was about. There were a lot of tough times for him I’m sure. Talking with him on AIM many years ago and hearing about how awful the dialysis process was…that shit was heartbreaking and you knew it was only getting worse. By the end, he was basically just letting doctors try all kinds of new pills and treatments on him because they were out of ideas but he was still getting out there, doing what he wanted.
And for that, I’m glad. I’m glad that even though he had this hanging over his head since he was a kid, he still got to experience so many good things. I’m glad he got to experience what it’s like to win a tournament. I remember talking with him about it and he was trying to make it seem like it was no big deal, but I knew he was pumped up about it. I’m glad he got to meet up with his girl and live a little. Hell, I’m glad he got to play SF4. Hella years ago we would joke about that. That it would just be his luck that SF4 would finally come out after he was gone. But he made it and he even went out to the arcades and stood in the 15 man deep lines, even though it was rough for him. I only wish Honda was top tier for him.

I never felt sorry for Rick because he never wanted me to. He wasn’t a rare kidney condition, he was just one of the guys. And he was my friend. I’ll miss him, the internet will be a worse place without him around.

This was Rick in a nutshell. He just let things fall where they may. We made fun of his hair when it got large and in charge and he would just laugh then beat you with Blackheart. We would always tease him due to his very unique way of using a MASTICK (it’s hard to describe. You just had to see it).

I remember a few years ago when he was thinking about making a fighting game, we wanted to use me as the announcer. Him and I would talk online for hours about it. It never went anywhere but to me, that showed so much about who he was as a person. Despite him being sick, you would never know it. He just wanted to have fun and you cannot fault him for that.

This is a mammoth loss for so many people.

This is really upsetting. He’s one of the people on here I generally liked to read posts from cause he was blunt and honest. I’m glad to see that even though he was sick he got out and did what he loved till the very end. I can’t imagine what his family is thinking and feeling right now, but it may give them solace to know he was loved by a large community on here that spanned boarders.

wow man, i dont know what to say. my condolences to zazza and his familiy. Dasrik was an awesome member of this scene. I had the proveledge of meeting him years ago back in like 2001. him and his brother made lots of contributions to the mvc2 community. Im really at a loss for words, like i dont even know what to say right now. fuck man, this really blows.

Dude always had something up with his health but he never let it get him down. Hell, he’d down play his own stuff just to make you feel better about what you were going through. The man was a champ. You guys don’t even get it. The stuff with his health… ya’ll just don’t know.

I spent a lot of time talking to Dasrik on AGSF2, SRK, IRC and SHGL. Got a chance to play ST, MvC1 and 2 along with a billion other games over the years with him.

To say you will be missed is an understatement. The SF community is worse because you are gone.

Dasrik, may you rest in peace. You were a very good guy. I only talked to him through SRK, but he was always a good person. This is horrible news.

He was only a few days older than me. Wow, I am seriously upset by this. I never met in person you guys before, but I do consider a lot of you friends and would have shared a beer with many of you. Dasrik was a good person I give nothing but my prays and condolences to his entire family.

May God watch over you, and embrace you when you enter Heaven Ricardo.

Since way back, Dasrik’s posts always stood out as being some of the funniest/most interesting reads. Especially remember his posts on his love/hate affair with MVC1. RIP.

He was one of the first guys I talked to on SRK when I got into Marvel. And he always had something useful to say about low/mid tiers and what strategies to use. I never met him in person, but that fact that he’s no longer around really sucks. I don’t know how else to describe it. He was truly one of the best posters on this board.

LOL the patented VCG (Vulture Claw Grip). I think what i loved most about Dasrik was the fact that even though he had his health problems, it didnt tie him down. He was still one of the biggest assholes online and IRL, and when we all hung out, we would just clown on him, and usually he would shit back on us twice as much.
