Did you go to Evo last year? Did you see the lack of people in the audience during finals? Did you read the thread and what James Chen had posted before your posts? I guess you missed the memo.
Yes, the community is upset that GG is not a main game at Evo, but the majority of us are already planning on working around it. People were telling Clayton to be quiet because he was expressing how he feels in a very unprofessional manner; it was like he was having a temper tantrum and screaming the “GG conspiracy theory” that has been beaten to death. Anyone with a sense of decency could tell that what he was saying was not the way one should go about expressing their opinions as to why GG is at Evo.
We’re all adults here, so let’s act like one. Kicking and screaming isn’t going to solve anything. We’re going to have our own hype events at Evo this year that will overshadow Evo’s official games. Bet it.

It’s fun and all to sound like a bad ass on a forum but some of us realize that this is Evo’s show and that Guilty Gear is just one community amongst many. Some of us would prefer to do what we can to get Guilty Gear in Evo next year, instead of pointlessly bitching and fighting over what is essentially spilled milk.
Render is just as upset as you or Clayton about the situation, he’s just actually trying move forward from it.
And sadly, whether it is fair or not… the top players of any game DO in fact represent that community. It will always be that way because they are the player’s that are in the limelight. They are the players who’s opinion’s other people will value the most, and who’s actions other people will judge when they look at a community. It sucks for the rest of us, but that’s how it is.
Oh and as for boycotting Evo? Um this is a horrible idea. Do you guys really think Evo staff has it out for us? I mean seriously, you try to make points about how they screw us over (which personally I think are kind of weak), but you have to admit how much they’ve done for this community too. AC at last year’s Evo finals was huge! Not to mention, some of us actually do play and watch other games. GG is my main, but I still want to go for 3s, ST, and CvS2.
The bottom line is… even I think some of our community straight up sounds ungrateful.
If more Guilty Gear players posting sounded like Render, Hellmonkey, or Spirit Juice, I honestly think we would probably be in Evo this year.
No, I don’t know all of the fuckups, I don’t claim to. But if you think I’ll spend money on a plane ticket and hotel as well as pay admission just to play a side tournament…just to prove our community is responsible or something in order to MAYBE have our game hosted next year, I’m afraid that just isn’t a financially wise decision on my, or virtually anyone else’s part. I love GG, but I just don’t have that kind of money to spend for a side tournament.
I couldn’t make EVO World last year for entirely unrelated reasons, so no I wasn’t there.
I’m not so much upset about the decision as much as upset about lack of warning until it was too late. I think that letting us know that this was our last chance to do it right and that future screwups would result in the game being removed…not just remove the game outright would have been a better choice. Maybe I missed that memo too and we got that warning though, not sure.
And yes, I prefer getting upset if our community is upset instead of PRETENDING like we’re not. If you want to call that childish ranting, then cool.
Personally I would have thought Guilty Gear Players would be going after EVO for putting Brawl on the lineup, considering it is not a true fighting game in the arcade sense.
whats the difference if you go for a side tourney, that could be as big as a hosted tournament vss a hsoted tournament. if the game has more entrants than cvs2, or other games, you guys gonna win just as much. keep in mind, no toyota sponsor in sight. and who knows about any sponsors this year, period. evo could be back at “winner takes pot.” where in this case, a big side tourney can make just as much money, if the community pulls together with enough entrants.
so really, whats different? other than the fact your game isnt on the evo front page or on the DVD or its not on the main stage. does that truly matter that much? you still gather up the best talent in the country, celebrate your game, win money and bragging rights, and its still the same.
I hope you guys do your thing and make a big noise with lots of entrants in a side tourney. theres no sense in arguing about the decision and throwing negatives out there adding fuel to the fire. just move on, support your craft and do your thing. evo is not the end all, be all tournament for games. and its not the only major. nor does it need to be the only major player in town with sponsorships(which it doesnt see mto have this year).
step your game up and make something happen. like all these animevo avatars im seeing. maybe a separate major for all the anime/doujin style. with ggxx, mb, AH, blazblue etc… i think it would be cool to have more diverse tourney circuits.
all im saying, its not the end of the world. march forward, and find a solution, in an adult manner. make things happen!
Umm I wasnt having a temper tantrum. I can no longer phyiscaly go to tournments in the first place, so I obviously had no intention of going to evo. Weather or not EVO has GG doesnt effect me, I just felt bad for all you fucks that still go to tournments thats all and have put up with another year of “Days of our Lives: will they have GG this year part 523452435”. Im only argueing this whole EVO has always had GG communitys best intrest ish thought. the ones that look dum are you guys that cant stand up for themselves. But anyone lazy enough could easily search years past where all you dudes sucking up, were in the threads complaining just to have GG period years before. We all know what has happend in the past…
