R.I.P Guilty Gear

Yeah…I would like to know the full reasoning behind it, but I’m not sure if we’ll ever get to hear that. At this point there’s nothing left for the community to do, but stay hype and keep the numbers big for next year. Hopefully next year Evo may even be able to squeeze in an extra game or 2. Doubt it considering what happened last year but we’ll see.

Who said I wasnt fine with paying 25 dollars? What im not fine with is saying something like carteing hand and foot for 3 years and this like financial situation whatever. So now you guys are telling me you all wanted to play XX back when reload was out? Or all those years we had to do vote after vote just to get the game in? People had to send in there own japanese ps2s games whatever just to have slash? That was catering to the players? That sounds like a compromise to me, not the same thing. Are you also trying to tell me those EVO DVDs you guys dont make any money off of? Also anyone ive acctualy talked to on aim feels the same way and dont feel they should apologize. But I guess my “rep” is the scapegoat here.

Stop Clayton

I know it’s against the rules, but so help me god QFT.

so ungrateful

I actually was referring to reaching it’s full potential this year, which would not only bring more people to the event, with more hype, but would show that we are above the events which have happened and don’t want Guilty Gear to be viewed and talked about in the negative light it has been on SRK for such a long time (unfortunately, I have a feeling this will only get worse due to it’s removal…)

As I’ve mentioned in other posts, and I agree with you, not being at Evo is definitely not the end for Guilty Gear. There is no doubt, however, that it is limiting both exposure to the game itself, as well as limiting exposure to the other games from the members of the Guilty Gear community (especially the new players, of which there are more than ever!) and therefore definitely hurting, I think, both Evo itself and the Guilty Gear scene to leave the game out this year. This sense of proving that we deserve to be at the event that you mention was also mentioned after last years’ events, and what really bugs me is that we’ve done exactly that in our own separate communities (including reaching over 150 people at an upcoming tournament!), and have even been recognized for it, but still haven’t receieved a spot this year. That is what really saddens me.

I really appreciate your positive attitude towards GG. There is way too much negativity on SRK about just about everything related to the game, it’s truly refreshing.

As for using Evo to draw in more people, it’s not going to happen nearly as effectively with GG as a side-tournament. Many people have already expressed this, and it’s an undeniable truth.

Reason, at last! It was neither an immature nor probably bad decision. :wgrin: It was the least bad of all bad options, given that we needed to reduce the overall number of games. With seven games absolutely everything must run perfectly or we run over schedule and the latter games pay for it.

I can think of much better ways of sticking it to the GG community if that was our goal. For instance, putting GG on probation for a year by taking away or vastly reducing the tournament prizes. We could probably even justify that, since it penalizes only the top players that caused one of the fiascos last year. We didn’t even consider crap like this because we were motivated by what’s best for Evo overall, not how to retaliate against GG, or anyone else.

This is pretty retarded. GG is getting huge, just look at FR and tell me that’s not Evo worthy. GG was my only reason for going to Evo, so I definitely won’t be going this year unless they decide to add the game back in.

What a bunch of fuck ups.

Rather sad to see Guilty Gear being out of Evo this year. Rather sad for the simple reason that it wasn’t a Capcom 2D fighter, which added a bit more diversity. I am not blaming anything, just noticing the “evolution” lol.

Anyway, who said CvS2 brought the best from SNK already ? I was laughing so hard when reading that. This guy has to try KOF’98 one day then !

It’s really hard to believe that people don’t think before they post. Stop being immature.

So, instead of the game that runs on-time (with the exception of one screwup that people get all pissy about) and brings in desperately needed numbers, you choose the game that is one of the most likely to run late and is practically dead in the water.

Good call.

But I’m not going to complain about it endlessly. I’ll leave that to the actual GG players.

you wont be missed.

Most of the Guilty Gear community could care less. Let alone the entire Evo community.

So the inevitable question then is why leave CvS2 in but remove Guilty Gear, when CvS2 has a dying scene while GG has a growing one? It is understood that games had to be removed, that is clearly not the issue, it’s why Guilty Gear was chosen over CvS2 aside from grudges for previous events that have been discussed, covered, and should have been done away with?

Some things don’t change I see.

QFTitties.

Probably the last time we will ever see CVS2. GG will be around for a long ass time. The scene is big enough to hold its own tournies. Smash will help Evo get paid for. It sucks, but seems to make sense.

Like I said before…I’ll be surprised if we get a clear official answer to that question. At this point I say we’re better off not knowing why and just prepping for next year. The answer would only raise more questions and debate in my eyes. Just let it be and be ready for next year.

When you’re operating from bad information it’s easy to reach the wrong conclusion. GG-AC has been notorious for going radically over schedule. We’re talking hours here. Factors for this have included.

]Casual players screwing around and extending games instead of finishing opponents off.
[*]Players leaving in the middle of the tournament

The top two issues are not isolated – they are systemic problems that I have personally witnessed at multiple Evo events. By contrast, the CvS2 community is consistently willing to compromise on schedule concerns, which is why pools and sometimes semi’s have been one game for the past several years.

So yes, I think we made the right decision.

Surprise!

The fact that you view the guilty gear community as an out-group is pretty ridiculous in it’s own right. Oh well.
