I really would have liked to see this game redeem itself on the big screen. Yet…CVS2 will still be hype even if it’s not going to draw in epic numbers. I respect Wiz’s decision to keep CVS2 and keep the staple Capcom games running.
you guys may have lost out this year, but unless there is some serious hype CvS2 is probably done after this… as sad as i am to say it. you guys should have a shot at next year, but we gotta do all we can to make evo big, the more of us there the more likely they get better sponsors, more money, etc etc. It looks as though this may be a re-build year for evo, but with SF4 right around the corner, i’d say the fighting game scene is going to grow, and when it does there will be room for world tournaments for any deserving fighting game.
Evo catered to the GG community hand and foot for three years, consistently accommodating the will the community at no small cost: Japanese PS2s, import copies of the game, and a major reworking of the Evo schedule. In exchange we were slapped in the face when a significant number of players made it clear that they do not take the tournament seriously, through multiple incidents that have occurred over the years.
Now certain members of this community have the audacity to claim that they are losing faith in us. This is more bad behavior from a community that has a laughable inflated sense of self-entitlement and self-importance… To me it confirms that we made the right decision.
Personaly I dont see how you guys have the audacity to say that to the community(and again dont get me wrong as I of course think most of the video community is just a bunch of fucks anyway but…). Obviously we get it you guys acctualy do like GG. I think you played bridget? Or was that your brother I dont remember its been years whatever… And as we all know 3S is a fake SF in the first place, so I belive that you guys dont like that.
But just beacuse you like or dislike a game doesnt mean you guys have been accommodating the GG players or anything like that. GG is shitted on every year. And ive never seen a good argument. Why do people forget about how you guys had VF5 that one year when it was only out in Japan. But for GG theyve always been given shit about having it. Or the year we had to play XX when reload was out. That was accommodateing the players? Thats BS. Also no small price? Lets not get into money wise. The community pays 25 bucks or whatever a person just to enter your tournment. Anything the community owes to the tourny runners that 25 dollars is suppose to cover. Everything else is suppose to be on you guys. Thats why they are PAYING YOU TO RUN THE TOURNMENT. Thats why other people arent.
Anyway whatever I guess if its not there, its not there. But dont blame the community for being a bitch, when GG has been the step child whatever. Honestly I just assume its beacuse your sponsers dont want a "unknown"ish type game. So they are hesitant or something. They want bigger names. If thats the case, thats the case. But dont blame the players, when we are giving you money just so we can play in the first place, and still are given left overs. Plus you guys acctualy make( I dunno if its a lot or a little, thought I thought I recall rob telling me you guys did make a bit… maybe im wrong memory is bad.)money off the community in the first place with those EVO dvd shit.
Obviously… not risking people falling asleep and taking breaks during the tourney is more important than the numbers. I would have also thought that Wiz would have liked the numbers this year for GG but, I guess Wiz feels that the line up should hold him up until next year. He seems optimistic about GG for next year, but I respect him giving CVS2 one (possibly) last hurrah on the big screen.
I recognize that mistakes have been made by both the community as a whole and individual players, but everything has been discussed to death, and I, as well as others in the community, were given the impression that if we continuned to grow as a community and make up for the mistakes that we would might secure our spot this year. I still understand that it is a decision by the staff, and respect that decision.
However, I feel that we have done exactly what I understood that we needed to do, and more. I speak as if we deserve it because I feel that the entire community stepped its game up and grew to prove itself in the last year. The players who have messed up have apologized. I don’t feel any self-entitlement nor do I feel that my voice has any more weight than the others who post here or the others in the Guilty Gear community, and while “losing faith” in the staff may not have been the best way to say it, I’m saddened that GG and it’s community isn’t going to have a chance to finally reach the potential it has always had, as one of the biggest hypest games at Evo, with possibly the most positive attitude overall despite the few members who have stuck out in the past.
Your entire post just proves my point (Spirit Juice thinks so too!), but I thought I would highlight this little gem. Do you think you’re $25 comes even close to coving the cost of the tournament? The combined entry fees of every single attendee barely covers the cost of the room! Those fancy game consoles, TVs, lights, screens, even the electricity costs extra. Evo is a sweet, sweet deal for gamers, and the only way we’re able to keep it this way is with the cooperation of all the various FGC.
This is what the GG community doesn’t understand. The mentality that you get the moon for your entry fee and that Evo somehow owes you is how GG ended up on the chopping block in the first place.
Please do not take Clayton’s posts as any indication of how the community feels, that would be horribly incorrect. The community does not feel this way at all, and I think the attitude and actions of the majority of it’s members have proved this over the last year. Many of these members came here to stand up for GG after last year’s events, and then once again recently when the exact same points were brought up. We appreciate the Evo staff, but to see our community judged on the minor few who do not respect Evo or it’s staff seems a bit unfair.
It’s posts like those (Clayton’s) that keeps the EVO staff’s view and opinion of the GG community as emo, self-deserving, whiny children who can’t deal with anything. I’m sad to see that the actions and words of few have successfully pushed the game out of the EVO roster.
I can only speak for what/who I know, but there’s not a single person in the SoCal GG community (that’s serious about competing at EVO) that is NOT okay with paying the $25 entry fee. Please don’t let one guy speak for everyone like this.
The GG community will be around either way, and whether or not it is included in Evo is ultimately not that big of a deal since there will be tournaments for the people that care.
The flabbergasting point is why the decision was made to include a game with only a handful of players over a game with a much stronger community of players.
If the reason is just to “get back” at GG, then ultimately the decision is immature. If it’s to “include the game with more hearts in California”, then it’s a debatable decision, but still a bad one if the tournament is looking for numbers, and including the most popular games.
Evo does not owe the GG community anything, but Evo does owe itself the ability to make reasonable and unbiased decisions.
I think what everyone would really like to know is: was this an immature decision, or a debatable, but probably bad one? Given the circumstances, these are really the only two options.
I respect everything you said in this post and it really does help the GG community’s cause. And furthermore, I’d like to help out your cause and the cause of all Guilty Gear players myself.
I noticed that you stated (which I quoted above) that you are sad that the GG community will never have its chance to reach its full potential. I disagree wholeheartedly. The funny thing about Evo is that when we drop a game, it’s like the death knell for a community. Meanwhile, you look as something like SBO and they drop games and bring them back left and right.
It’s NOT over for GG in the least. In fact, all those people who say “there is no more reason to go to Evo now” because GG is out could not be more wrong. Don’t forget, there always is the BYOC, and every year, GG players have run a Singles tournament there with great results. And now there is more reason than ever for the GG community to go to Evo to play in their own community-run GG tournament. If you guys claim you can get big numbers, NOW is the year to do it in the BYOC. If you bring in 150 to 200 entrants, the staff will have no choice but to hear the hype. If the tournament is run smooth and efficiently, there’s no bigger way to backup your claims than this.
There is no reason to fight Evo (not your point, Hellmonkey, but the point of others) over this. In fact, use Evo and its ability to draw in players to your advantage and run the biggest community run tourney ever in the BYOC. Convince casual GG members to join in on the fray. Advertise the hell out of it in the GG forums. And make it super hyper this year. If you don’t think that’ll get our attention, then you do not know the staff well enough.
I love Guilty Gear, and while I can’t offer any extra support as a staff member to you guys in the BYOC over any other game in the BYOC, secretly in my heart I’ll be pulling for you guys.
Why is it that people keep saying they’re not focusing on the few people that make the community look bad and try to judge it as a whole when they keep focusing in on the very few people that Are making this community look bad instead of realizing how many other posters there are for this community and that those few people don’t speak solely for the community?
I mean this is why people think GG gets shitted on. Not that I personally do, but people keep singling out people and making decisions about the community based on that. Maybe we are being shitted on? Who knows.
And no way in hell is it over for GG. With or without EVO we grow. Amen? There is a 0% chance I’m going to stop playing GG and show up to tournaments because it’s not in EVO.
