R.I.P. Einsteins:sad:. Fond memories of Gaming, pizza and beer next door, and getting owned by Mopreme and company…
why this had ti happen when Im about to move to Austin :sad:
Oh my God…
During Hurricane Katrina I evacuated to Austin to stay at my boy’s place there and Einsteins was a great place to get away from all the shit I was dealing with at the time…
This is so terrible…R.I.P.
This is truly a sad day, especially being a native austinite, I have been going there for years and now this. All I can say is WOW and WHY? I hate what the Drag has become now. Also yes let us know if there is anything we can do to help keep E’s going. I guess I should of went on one of those impulses because now it is gone.
Joaquin
I had to log back in just to comment.
WHY GOD, WHY?!?!?
…
But really, the few times I’ve been there, the place has been BOOMING like crazy, WTF lead on to it being closed?? I wanna know!!
I had plans to go there and play with the 3s peeps Friday night…
This changes things.
Roark’s getting old and tired. He shut down The Backroom not too long ago; we knew it was only a matter of time before E’s got closed. Kinda frustrating, though - while it wasn’t really making much money, it wasn’t LOSING any either. He coulda just let josh keep it open.
my name is Joshua Yuan, and if any of you guys were regulars at Einstein’s for the last half a year, I went sunday through thursdays and was the fat asian guy that played KOFXI, usually by myself. I also did a lot of ITG and DDR doubles, and epic failed at GGXX once and awhile.
I was speaking to Jonz and apparently the owner didn’t pay taxes or something for 2 years for that place so we apparently had it coming, just no one knew about it.
So now what? That was the one place left in Austin that arcade goers could go and have tons of other folks to play fighters, DDR, ITG, and other things with. I used that place for study breaks during the year and finals, and I commonly visited the place two or three times a day, spending around $2-8 a visit easy. (thankfully Blanton is like 2 minutes away from E’s location).
Happy new year my ass, what’s left of my college life has been completely mangled.
JOSH FIELDS AND/OR THE OWNER, if you come across this thread, give us updates and news on what might possibly happen from here on out, the entire Austin fighting community and dance team (lol) is knee deep in epic terror
“yes. einsteins is closing. no, it is not due to anyone’s wrongdoing. the owner just wants to move on. all games are for sale. make offer in person tomorrow 01/03/08. i will be there by 9 am.”
email from Josh Fields
everybody file up and lets go. -_-
Holy shit, the ITG 2 machine was too beastly.
Hands down the best dance machine out there in all of… well… anywhere lol.
Kind of sucks that theres already a sales note on this thing.
I remember people saying how the owner just didn’t care about the place anymore. And yes, there were those random days in the week where it would have a large crowd of people. The only time E’s did look truly dead was whenever the semister for UT was over. But once it was back up, people came back.
Damn… theres gotta be a way to get E’s going again…
R.I.P. Einstein’s Arcade! I live in New Orleans now so im hoping that my arcade doesn’t close anytime soon. Hope you guy’s find a good gathering spot out there.
Take care texas gaming family!
DAAAANG! Wonder who is going to go to try and buy the arcades. I’d go but I haven’t started working yet and thus I am super broke. That’d be tight if someone bought a few cabs and put them in a new location. Like at a bowling ally or something.
Not surprising, Austin is a total shit hole of a town that has gone out of it’s way to make itself boring and generic.
:looney:Keep Austin weird!:looney: By opening another Seattle’s best coffee…
LOL.
I’ve only been to Einstein’s once. However, I still feel privileged to have been able to go there if only for an evening. RIP.
yea I went down to Austin for 6 days a few months back and Einstein’s was one of the best arcade experiences I’ve had hands down. There was more than enough competition and a good variety of games. This makes me a sad panda lol. Yea… so much for keeping Austin wierd…more like… let’s keep Austin corporate.
Looking to buy machines to open a new Texas arcade. Any information, phone # or anything to get me in touch with the owner would be very appreciated.
Man I never would have thought Einsteins closed, hopefully maybe the owner would be gracious enough to relocate to a bigger location. It was such a nice hole in the wall arcade.
Ugh that’s really a shame. I made it a point to stop by there any time we went to Austin to get my ass kicked in 3s… It was amazing to be able to just browse into an arcade and find that level of play. Plus Jamba Juice next door ftw. It breaks my heart to see a place like that disappear and be replaced by yet another place to buy Abercrombie and Fitch clothing.
I think the experience of being an arcade owner turns you into a bitter, hateful person, at least towards everyone remotely involved with the arcade I can certainly see why it would start to feel like a millstone around your neck if you’ve fallen out of love with gaming or never really cared about it in the first place – even if it’s still making a small amount of cash.
I wonder if the place could have survived somewhere else without all the foot traffic of being next to campus.
