Quitting SFIV, and it's because there is no competition

yeah I’m kinda inclined to agree…

I mean, I’m terrible at the game, but I can still recognize a flowchart player. And I know that the flowcharter is awful too, but if the flowcharter beats me, then I know that I’m WORSE then a flowcharter. I don’t say “I’m better than him but he’s got more fireballs than I do so I lost.”

I say “wow I need to practice punishing spam. ALOT”

You have to actually win first Grandpa.:crybaby:

Yeah for real. I hate to say it, but I’ve had my fair share of getting beaten by flowcharters or spammers and been like, “Dang, I feel awful, I should have punished that mess.”

But that’s why I say I try to learn from it, because a win’s a win - if they beat you, best step your game up! :china:

Dude, when there is lag involved, of corse someone can get beat by a lesser player. How is that hard to understand?

Ed Ma was saying he thinks the EVO results might have been different if one of the TV’s with a small amount of lag had not been used.

Even offline, a small amount of lag on a TV can fuck up the game. Imagine what the lag over the internet does.

For people that only play online, I don’t think you realize that a lot of the stuff you see working online, doesn’t work in a lag free game. You can’t do stupid things like mash out another DP after the first one whiffs and somehow beat the punish.

If you study frames, and you know after “move x” you have a small frame advantage, that doesn’t mean anything online.

Seriously, if online play was legit, arcades wouldn’t exist at all. There’s a reason why people still pay $0.25-$1.00 a game at the arcade.

Time to start traveling like the big boys do.

Try other fighters, SF isnt the only fighting game made this year or years prior to 09.

Crispy, man, did you even read the rest of his post?

As for lag, it seems to be a great scapegoat nowadays.

“I woulda won if it wasn’t for lag”
“I would have punished if it wasn’t for lag”
“I coulda hit that combo if t wasn’t for lag”
“that guy only won because of lag”
“that would have never worked on me offline”

ed ma can blame lag because he’s the shit and everyone knows the man can play, but for random folks to call the same shit, I just find it hard to believe. And no, I’m not saying only pro players can beef with lag, I’m just saying that lag can’t be the only reason folks are losing matches.

sometimes I feel like I’m watching The View cuz all I hear is bitches talking.

So much trolling in here.

Some people just won’t see eye to eye on this subject, just accept it and spend your time doing something else.

Stop complaining and just go to tournaments dude. You’ll find enough competition if you go to tournaments.

holy shit am I sick of this happening

Problem with online is that you can be top online player with just basic cross-up, BnB, and a little flowchart. Don’t need footsies, mind games, brains, or anything else. The online game is based off of psychic damage moreso than the offline game. I try to play online with guaranteed damage, not psychic damage, and I end up losing to quite a bit of people. I know however that their damage was psychic which will lose it for them in the long run while my damage is how it is supposed to be done. Some have said “a win is a win”, but that isn’t true to me. Often times in a match I’ll reach a point where I know I can beat this person so I’ll try various things on them like they were a top offline player. That stuff doesn’t work unless both players know what they’re doing though, but it is as close as I’m going to get to be able to practice with a real person. Am I justifying losses? No, I don’t care if I lose. I would rather play 10 matches where I win just five of them with true workable strategies than where I win all 10 by just punishing stupid flowcharting. Why am I going to punish flowcharting just to get a win on a flowchart scrub? It doesn’t do anything for me to win that, it doesn’t teach me anything, how often is a top player going to get punished for a hard punch shoryuken? Not often, if ever, so I’m not going to add that to my damage totals in a match.

^ Man, you’re not kidding with cross-ups. I can’t seem block anything online. I see it coming a mile away and it’s still random.

I got so annoyed with online and all the game’s faults that I quit. Then I tried again recently and it’s just as bad. This game just doesn’t click with me and it sux 'cause everyone seems to play it.

Tell me that once in a while when u lost by that bit, you havent wish for a milisecond that lag hasnt affected your combo or ultra and you ‘could’ have won. It happened many times with me, but eventually lag is part of the game in the online world, so the fact that technology has enabled us to play games while sitting on the crouch should make us thankful. :wonder:

Lag gets me, but there are lessons to be learned from playing online:

take your wins and losses with a grain of salt.

For those who want to make online a viable and competitive platform, understand that it comes with some setbacks that you need to acknowledge. You can’t say you’re a great online player when you win and then blame the very same domain that you claim to rule when you lose.

Yes, there are a lack of arcades in the US, and some have no choice but to resort to online play. There’s nothing wrong with having no other options. The fault lies when you discredit your only way of competing by blaming losses on it. By dumping on it and making it seem it’s unplayable, you’re just discrediting yourself and belittling your victories.

Work with what you have and make the best of it. If youve lose because of lag, you’ve probably won from it too.

Play ppl that live in your area. Go to the matchmaking forum and see what’s up.

In fact i’ve organised quite successfully a mini online tournament in May. There isnt big problems since most matches are played within singapore but for the finals we managed to gather at someone’s house to fight it out

It doesnt always have to be arcade , arcade, arcade.

The worst is when you’re trying to play someone like 'sim and you constantly eat roundhouse->flowchart uppercut because your laggy AA knee didn’t come out. Then you get some pro-tip message from the flowchart master.

I’ve said it before and put it as a closing statement a ton…

~ Legendary Wind ~ Stop the Lag, Start the COMMUNITY ~

im looking forward to getting home and maybe searching out some local players to play offline with. but atm online is all i have :frowning:

still though ALL online games have lag its just that streetfighter is affected moreso than lag by other games, a bit of lag in a FPS can cost u a death or kill or whatever, but in SF it can cost u the match.

anybody expecting ero lag SF is living in a dream world really.

If you’re whining about SF4 online, play KOF12 online.

I assure you’ll kiss the ground Capcom walks on after the witnessing the shitty netcode that powers KOF12.
