Quick Question IS DUDLEY BLACK?

For the love of fuck’s sake, shut the hell up. All of you fools who want to go back and forth bitching about who sucks more cock, go start your own personal Vs. thread somewhere else.

http://www.gamefaqs.com

Yeah, there needs to be a moderator here often. I PMed Wizard a long time ago and never got a response. Nothing’s really been done either. Save for someone FINALLY banning blackwidow. But how long did that take, honestly? Over a month and 2 accounts later?

Someone needs to explain to me why TAS would get a “Strike 1” and the rest of the “addduuurr u suk cock lololol” retards get nothing. This is ridiculous. If you’re going to take the time to give someone a warning, why the hell aren’t all parties punished and why in god’s name is this thread not locked/deleted?

Idiotic threads like this one are the reason I don’t even bother checking these boards anymore.

its a karma point, premium members dispense it at their will.

PS.
this thread is too good to close.

That’s even more retarded.

There’s nothing good about this thread, it’s a waste of forum space. The fact that it has more views and posts than any other topic actually related to the Street Fighter comic is absurd.
Not to mention that it’s forcing down all the relevant topics.

Are You Guys Complaining If Dudley Is Black Or Not?
Ok Then

I Have A New Question For You

Is He White?

FUCK NO loool
Get Over It
The Guy Is Black

nobody gets banned if they get the maximum karma points anyway.
go to general discussion and read it. The mods decided it, whether its retarded or not, tell that to them.

What happened so far in this thread?

  • SF voice actors were discussed
  • SF artists were discussed
  • SF character origins/ethinicities were discussed (other than Dudley’s)
  • provides a wealth of trivia SF or non-SF related (like the list of black boxers from the 1800s and 1900s that Sagatryu posted)
  • discussed the lack of moderation in this forum
  • discussed the new karma point system in SRK
  • discussed the role of Udon comics in the SF storyline

oh yeah, and its also a hilarious thread.

No, nobody is complaining about his race.

The question was is Dudley black? And the answer is either “no” or “its unknown”

Okay, but you’re going to get the same answer. Its either “no” or “unknown”

Okay, why are you bothering to ask questions if you’re just going to answer them yourself?

Also how would you know what race he is (other then English) given there’s nothing specificly showing or stating what race (other then English) he is?

Is there echo in the thread?

Someone else said the exact samething, and it wasnt recieved well.

NOBODY knows what Dudley’s race is (other then English) its just something you going to have to relize, and get over.

Yeah all that stuff is in this thread, but of the 8 pages in this thread all that stuff, or those posts only take up a page or two, everything else in the thread is just pointles, hateful, spam, aurguing, or whatever else.

TAS man, English is not a race. Get over it already. And if you still think that Dudley is definately not black, then us know why. BTW, saying he is English won’t help your case as it has no bearing when talking about race.

That’s what I have to say about this thread.

If dudley is not black…then what the fuck else could he possibly be? You dont need Capcom to tell you what he is, its pretty much common sense. Thats like me saying Im not black…im American. Being black has nothing to do with where you live, its not a nationality.

Maybe if he wore gold chains and spoke with slang this wouldnt even be a debate.

I dont mean to keep calling it a race. I just keep responding too fast, with alotta diffrient things on my mind, so I mess up.

Did you mean to say “let us no why?”

Well for one, Im very much a fan of Capcom’s art and intrested in it, along with alotta the unanswered stuff about whatever, and I noticed Dudley became lighter in his artwork with each game, and people are generaly confused about what race he is, so I thought to ask Capcom about it, but they couldnt give me an actual answer to what race he was, they just told me things like “we never compliled much info for teh SF3 cast, never really got into any specific details about them, he was inspired by both black and white boxers, etc, etc” in other words they didnt flat out tell me “he’s not black” and instead told me a bunch of other things, ie if he were black, or white, or whatever, they would’ve told me instead of going into all those specific details.

So thats why I believe he’s not black.

If you HAVE to have something to go on about his race or what he is, it have to be through his insperation because thats really all their is to go on with him, so if looking and all the facts and his insperations, logicaly he’s be a mix, half black and half white.

Oh yeah, and Dudley had concepts that made him look completely white and he also had ones that made him look completely black, so I imagine the artist just couldnt make up his mind on which to use and just combined em.

Okay its obvious that you want Dudley to be black, for whatever reason, maybe cause you’re black.

Earlier when the thread first started and whatnot, I was wondering why the hell are so many people hung up on the fact that he “HAS” to be black or he’s defenitly black, without relizing that he’s the only male in the SF3 cast that can be “deemed” black, and is a character that alotta people like, and every race obviously always wants some strong representation of themselves when it comes to games, so I can defenitly see now why black people would defenitly want him to be black, along with those who arent black but like black culture, people, characters, or whatever.

As for what else he could be, he could be anything, but most likely he’s a mix of races. If Capcom had to decide I really doubt they’d say he’s just black, or just white, and instead try something better or more intresting, like giving him a black father and white mother or vice versa.

uhh udon is the moderator, talk to him about it

seeing as capcom can’t decide on a race lets all just agree hes black i should i know i mean i created him after all

 Wizard ???Mario !!!

WTF
Why Do We Need To Know His Race
I Mean

Just Look At Him
He Is Black

He Is Not A Blonde Cute Boy
Cmon, Is As Easy As To Take A Look At Him

He Is Black For Gods Sake

this is mighty risky

I will do my my best to avoid upsetting anyone but, I know that is impossible. I just want to say what should be said without any negativity corrupting my words.

I’ll start from the beginning. Someone was confused and wanted to know if Dudley as Black or not. I was intrigued because I wasn’t sure either. His character’s appearence is certainly unconventional. I posted my thoughts so that I could add what I had to this discussion.

Almost immediately after that, it developed into an exchange of insults and argument, not discussion. It was certainly entertaining but, it was also quite depressing to observe.

The only user I’ll mention is ‘Taz’ because it seems that the discussion has basically revolved around him. It IS a case of him versus everyone else. There are many reasons for this so, let me try and elaborate on some of them as productively as possible.

I’ll get this out of the way first so there’s no confusion. Taz, if you weren’t so confrontational and defensive, you would have not only saved yourself from some such hatred but, you might’ve been able to get your point across. People don’t often wish to listen to those that piss them off.

This thread is a perfect example of over sensitivity. Something logical is said and, it is instead taken as spiteful. Here’s a breakdown:

  • is he black or not?
    A reasonable innocent question.
  • maybe he’s not?
    A reasonable theory.
  • I think he’s black
    Another reasonable assumption.
  • he’s black, get over it
This IS spiteful, it is a rigid contention rather than a personal contribution. Seems like defensiveness of percieved racism.
  • he isn’t black, he is 'undefined’
He never said, he ‘couldn’t be black’, he said he ISN’T black because he IS undefined. He should’ve phrased that point more carefully.
  • you’re an idiot, get over it
    Defensive response to percieved ignorance.
  • you’re the idiot, you cannot argue with fact - piss off
Retalitory defensiveness creating unecessary tension, a very bad way to defend logical support for one’s words.
  • continueous heated exchanges
Nothing but rephrasing and insulting. Useless flaming marred what could’ve been a chance at clarity.

Taz should’ve known that insults would only distance people from realizing what his initial intentions were. Those were divided between supporting a rational position and reacting harshly to any who questioned it or put it down. Everyone else’s reaction varied from unbased attacks, to those based on misinterpretations. The ignorance never really disapeared entirely at any one point. People returning the insults given to them out of habit.

Taz’s initial statement is completely reasonable, it is fact that Dudley has been ‘undefined’ in his race(at least officially). It is also a fact there he MAY well be black. He IS ‘black’ in that his skin is dark but, his heritage has not been defined so, to argue any theory that defines one as fact is completely incorrect.

It’s not about being ‘bothered’ about Dudley being black, it’s about making known that while he could be of any race, it not a definitave fact that he is anything, including black. Honestly, it is MORE likely that he is either black or black(african)/white(caucasion) but, that’s only because that has simply been the trend. It WOULD be more interesting if he was something out of the ordinary.

There was a time when black characters where a rarity but, overtime, they have been included more so than ever before. It has been a trend in fighting games for a character to be Japanese or a white American(usually blonde) who trained in Japan. Once and a while a black American who trained in Japan will be used but, so far that’s been the extent in the diversity in ethnicity. Well, other than stereotyped nationals but, in a game where every character represents a stereotype, that’s hardly discriminatory.

It would be more interesting in respect to diversity if Dudley was something other than just black, just as it would be more interesting if Ryu was actually a quarter German, or as it is interesting that Ken is half Japanese. If Ken was completely caucasion, it would also be just as fine if Dudley was completely black. There is no prejudice here, simply curiousity, intrigue, and the desire for the unconventional.

If there was a character with a turban and a full beard in a game, I would assume that he was a sikh. If there was a statement issued by the developer that he was undefined, then there would be a definate possibilty that he COULD be something else. No matter how much or how little his appearence seemed to support my theory, that is an inarguable fact.

If someone thought he ‘looked a terrorist’, it wouldn’t be completely ignorant. I could get offended and insult them for being so narrow minded that they would think that but, in seriousness he just might actually look like the popular stereotype of a terrorist(like the bearded and turbaned Osama). If someone said that he IS a terrorist and that I should ‘get over it’, it would be a different issue. I would be exhibiting the same ignorance if I said, “he is a sikh, get over it”.

I wouldn’t even consider either choice because one is hatefully ignorant, and the other is self indungently motivated by ethnic pride. That and the fact that both make assertive assumptions that contradict the fact that it has been undefined. “He looks like a terrorist” as a statement in itself is quite innocent, why should I take offense? The point being, that it is my sole reponsibility for what I say and how I react. If I take things personally or rationally.

Why argue about this? Please don’t take part in this bloody battle of words any longer. By all means still post, just don’t battle. Make peace not war.

Haha, fucking awesome.
