found this great video today, the ken actually loses (to an effin scary viper), but its a pretty good representation of how most people should picture kens gameplay.
like a canopener. this ken isnt constantly looking for big combo’s or radical ultra setups and whatnot, he just pushes viper back untill she opens her defence. afterwhich he rains fire and hell down.
one thing though (and probably the reason he lost) is that he wasnt quite mixing things up to kens potential. but on the whole, aiming for this kind of execution first would take a player a long way, and from there one could throw in every fancy card and trick ken has in the book. but all towards one goal, opening up the opponents defence.
most of the combo variations in there looked good but where gigantic wastes of meter… and while ken does build his meter quickly he kinda needs to apply it better in fights, good vid though.
Yes, some of the combos were meant to simply illustrate the possibilities rather than practical applications. In contrast, I substituted a lot of ending moves for the EX Shoryuken for damage and knockdown rather than advantageous 50/50 mix-ups. From this video people will ideally grasp a greater understanding of how links from normals to specials, and normals to normals can be used effectively to get some sort of advantage.
What is a flowchart ken specifically though? A ken that only does repetitive stuff based on a chart (Moves that all bad ken’s do all the time?)
Its weird though, that I only see flowchart ‘‘ken’’ 90% of the other characters I meet even abuse there specials more, and do the same shit even more then a ken. (cammy, blanka, vega for eg) are much worse tbh. And tbh there repetitive stuff can be a little harder to defeat then ken’s. (I can’t beat a damn blanka lmao) I never heard flowchart blanka, or cammy though, ever.
ken was used more when the game first released on console. i swear 90% of people on xbl used ken. now, you’re lucky to even play against ken. anyways, all they did was wake up shoryu and shit got predictable. i think that’s why a lot of beginners lose interest in ken early on.
here’s my first attempt at capturing and uploading videos. any tips would be much appreciated.

this guy has a mean boxer and a tough dictator as well. go ahead and break down my self-confidence and build me up again
edit: im such a noob at this, i had no idea there was a 10min. cap on video length. the other parts of the matches are uploading now and are all over 10min. so i guess we’ll see what happens with those.
Dude! Nings bison is realllllllyyyyy good I had so many problems. His boxer is excellent as well I was playing him today! Glad I wasn’t the only person he was giving problems I thought he had some pretty tight execution man lol. I really was up in arms because I didn’t know what to do I found out crouching strong to be of good use to stuff some of bisons moves though but damn!
Needs more low foward !!! Especially when he wakes up. And he deserved a lot of mp shoryukens the way he was jumping at you. And you must be ready for those overheads. Its really a tide turning move for Rog. You CAN just throw him out of it when you see it, but there is another thing that works for me thats a little more simple. Because theres a pause be fore he executes, I hold db, then when hes RIGHT in front of me I shift to b. If he does anything but an overhead, I stay in db. If its overhead, it gets blocked. Besides that your mix-ups/throw game was good. Tatsu combos are good against Rog too !
ok, so i figured out how to split these videos. so im uploading the rest of the vids against ning now, there’s about 10 or so total. don’t worry there’s actually some where i win… near the end haha.
edit: yea, i know those overheads were killing me. you’ll see me take alot more of those. for some reason, last night, i was trying to jab them instead of shoryu them like i usually do.
Hey Cynistar. Even though you’re a lot better than me, I do notice some stuff during this earlier match. You were really hasty with the jump ins but im sure you learn and adapt in the later match. Also u didn’t look for those mp shoryu opportunities. Boxer players do tend to jump in when they get anxious so look for those. Other than that, you did punish rush punches with dp and your execution was pretty solid. Anyway i hope that helped. See you on PSN so you could school me!
thanks guys. i need to be more solid (not so impatient, and capitalize on those dp opportunities more). i’ll definitely take that to heart and put it into my game. thanks for the tips from j12 and joemasters, keep 'em coming!
haha yea, i guess this thread could use some ken v. ken vids.
i’m still uploading 8 more parts of me vs ning. haha i didnt realise how many matches we played until i had to upload them all.
edit: ok done uploading all my vids aganst Ning. somebody throw an akuma my way since omnicloud wants to see some ken vs akuma vids.
