The same 3 matches I posted in the video critic topic but I thought I’d add them here for the sake of completion.

Just note I had no chance to warm up and was in a bad mood that day ( the train journey to get there was hellish )

Watched the Vega one, generally, I would not FA wall dives, use cr.hp to stuff them instead. There’s a lot of good Vega info in the match-up thread that’ll make life easier against him. Watching the Ibuki one.

EDIT: Watched all of them. How can I say this without sounding like a proper dickhead? …It seems you’re pretty new to Juri in general. You were doing unsafe Senpushas/Pinwheels and generally, your defence wasn’t tight enough. You jumped a lot as well, I have this same problem, but you need to make use of Juri’s normals more. That Ibuki was backdashing out on wake-up all the time, I would option select Pinwheel him on wake-up. That Ibuki was also reversal happy with EX Kazegiri, so I’d work on baiting more.

That Ibuki was doing that target combo which launched you into the air, then when you landed on your feet and tried to Pinwheel, she would do Kunai to make herself “safe.” I believe you can get around that with FA.

Bison…I would read the match-up thread for tips against him as well.

But you did say you had a rough time before getting to the tournament, so perhaps I should ease off. Sorry if I sound like some prick.

Don’t worry about it, I appreciate the honest advice. I’ve also being playing Juri since the day the game came out in Europe. I’m well aware I’ve got a lot of learning to do about the game in general, not just with Juri.

I need some help with my Juri. These are just random online matches I recorded today. I can’t figure out how to use Juri offensively without jumping in, but I can use her fairly well when I have the opponent read. Please criticize me. I need to know what’s missing.

First off, why would you want to? Juri’s got a strong zoning game and one random DP or counterhit to put you on your back makes you fall back on Juri’s defensive options, which are… total crap. Also, the only other way you’re gonna get in is walking up and playing footsies and her normals are not particularly suited for that either. Dashing works, but requires you to condition your opponent into thinking you won’t or will do something else first. No dive kicks without good reason.

vs Ryu
Got hit by a ton of FA’s. Worth trying to cancel to senpusha on reaction to the FA and leave it uncanceled otherwise. Perhaps jumping back and buffering QCB in case of FA, because he REALLY was using it a lot when you got in poking distance. This type of adaptation is hard to do mid-match but after reading this and seeing it more often you’ll start to react to it better. You can’t safe jump Ryu so don’t jump at him after a backthrow or anything else unless you’re purposefully doing it too early to bait a DP. Finish c.LK link with senpusha on hit and go for counterhit or throw on block. You seemed to always go for Fuhajin store on both hit and block. It’s a decent counterhit attempt if you do it on block as a mixup to throw. Good occasional use of far s.HK

vs Makoto
Confirms my suspicion that you’re hot for Fuhajin combos (aren’t we all?). I’m very guilty of this myself which is why I recognise it. When they hit it’s great, but walking around with a stored lk Fuhajin and going for the store when you’re close (above all else) is not very efficient unless you do something fancy with the Store knockdown, which you sometimes can. Ask yourself, what’ll my match look like against soemone who only rarely lets me jump in on them and even more rarely get hit by j.LK into c.LK that don’t combo? In short, against good players you won’t have it easy getting in on your own terms and you have to work harder for those openings. When you do get the chance, going for fuhajin store when you could have knocked them further towards the corner with a senpusha combo (or thrown them way into the corner with forward throw) isn’t efficient. I’m already sounding really preechy, but IMO combos should be seen more as a means to an end than something to aim for.

i.e.
Q: How do I do more damage to my opponent than he does to me?
A1: Do the most damaging combo/attack I can do at any given moment.
A2: Choosing the most effective attack/technique at any given moment.

A1 is what people instinctively go for while A2 is what really works.

I always feel like I have add a disclaimer to my critique ^^ I’m not a good player myself, but I know enough about the game to know exactly why I suck XD

Thanks for the honest critique man. You shine a new light on what I could do with Juri. Putting them in the corner is a must huh? And yeah, I love mashing out my c.lk and then a fujahjin store because I can’t figure out how to do any b&b combos. I guess it’s time for me to spend some time and learn it. Do you have any safe block strings that you know of? Again, thanks for the critique, I’ll be trying to improve based on what you said :smiley:

Putting them in the corner isn’t always going tobe practical. It’s just that the position makes you so much more annoying (I can’t really call Juri dangerous with a straight face, so “annoying” suits her better) that it’s worth considering so that you don’t back up all the way when zoning with Fuhajins unless you’re fighting a grappler or something like that. If you’re fighting someone with a teleport you may as well not think about it at all.

I’m in the same boat when it comes to BnB. I dont’ bother with s.LK to c.MP link at all cus I can’t get it off consistently at all. Needs more practice. Canceling shorts to senpusha is good enough and if it doesn’t come out because I did it too fast, then it’s no big deal, just a missed oppertunity. Don’t think there’s much of a blocked string you can go for after having your shorts blocked. I’m gonna try and do what Ryuga does and cancel c.MP or MK into EX Fuhajin when I’m in that position to mix it up with her kara throw.

Critique please

Hey guys. This thread seems more popular than the critique thread. I’m pretty new to Juri and I’ve been losing matches to good players from not knowing what Juri can do and not reading on match up data yet. Gonna try to research her more. These are my best fights from yesterday. By that I mean I wasn’t totally crushed in these matches and I didn’t turn my opponent into a mindless and desperate masher either (gotta love when that happens!)

Ya can someone please have a look at my uploads? I need to know what to work on apart from unsafe dives and too much jumping.

If you don’t mind settling for me, here’s some interesting things I took note of.

General:
Unsafe hitconfirms and blockstrings
Using things like©HP or pinwheels without hitconfirming them first is really dangerous
Ex-pinwheel and ©HP in particular can be Ultra’d and BnB’d on reaction.
Try fuhajin stores on block for better block strings and learn the timing for the lk into ©HP if you want to use it. Lks into pinwheel should be your bnb, just don’t use them on block, especially not mk strength or higher.

Not finishing hitconfirms
Dropped alot of really good damage opportunities after getting some c.lks and some jump ins. Pressure can do that to the best of us though. Just be aware of the timing for your links and combos so when you do manage to get something you can take full advantage.

Starting fuhajin charges for stun really late**
Very smart move going for Juri’s Fuhajin charge combos during stun, but the second you see the stun(or hear it if you can over all the tourny screams) start your charges, good players can wake up really fast and turn the match around.

Pinwheel on wake up
I know it’s tempting and I know it works sometimes, but this is really dangerous. Blocking is her best wakeup option. If you have to use it, do so sparringly and be ready to cancel.

Learn dive kick ranges**
It’ll help you do safer dives, crossup dives, and all that jazz. Missing a dive can = pain as you experienced.

Unsafe finishes(chip dmg wins)
Meh, I hear mixed opinions on cheese wins, personally if I get the chance I take them.
But you’ve got to be really careful about what you use to chip. As you saw Juri’s U2 is a terrible choice.
Super is really bad too, but I guess that Guy didn’t know you can just jump over it and get your dmg awn.

With Juri I use Fuhajin combos into ex/HK pinwheels and safe fuhajin stores, but I don’t know the specific dmg output on her chip moves and there might be something better.

Not good against Blanka, you can bait his balls out with plenty other moves, this will just get you punished.

Pretty ballsy, not many expect it so I do it myself time to time, but it’s not safe and Juri bleeds a bit so be careful there.

Kara-Grab
Might wanna use kara grab, Juri’s grab range is crap

Fuhajin Storing after anti-airing
They’re free and Juri can play a zoning character really well so it helps to have a free fuhajin store.

Overall I think you played ok. You know the jumping and unsafe dives have gotta go. You had some great usage of c.mp to anti air, and brilliant mp for poking. Something I’m trying to do myself you might want to try is hitconfirming c.mk>Pinwheel (it’s really hard when you’ve trained yourself to combo the pinwheel automatically ;-:wink:

Your opponents were a bit weird though,so I don’t know how well this is as a measure of your Juri.
I hope I get to play you myself one day, since I’ve always wanted to play your Sak too. :d

Thanks very much (9) for all this great info! Canceling anti air into special is really hard for me to time right. I’ll have to keep setting it up in training mode. The hitconfirms are giving me grief too. I’ll just have to train harder. At least now I’ll have some goals in mind. Thanks again.

Woah at that offense vs Rufus, eiSH. I’ve always thought keepaway was a better strategy, but it looks like playing offensively can be quite effective as well.

If Rufus is without meter, he’s probably fair game.
