Okay. I don’t have a 360 or PS3. I go to my LAN center to play Street Fighter 4. Long story short, I want to buy a 360, but I don’t know what would be the cheapest way of going about this.
I have a friend who’s selling a 360 (he said it’s hardly used so I shouldn’t have to worry about red ring or whatever), with a 360 Controller (probably in decent condition at least), a router (I think it’s called that or whatever the XBox “needs” to get hooked up to the internet). Probably some games. Oh, and a 20 gig hard drive.
What I want is just a 360 to play Street Fighter 4 and Super Street Fighter 4 (but I figuire I want the smallest fair-sized harddrive for maybe a dl or two and save slots but it’s just for SF4). I got a TE Fight Stick so I don’t really need the controller (right?) and whatever it takes to get hooked up to the internet. (I have good speed internet and a modem/wireless routers so idk how that’ll help). Anyway what do I need to hook the thing up to the net? Lastly (yeah I know this is long xD sry) how much does SF4 cost now (I live in US, Connecticut). (Btw I already have 4 months of XBox Live). (Oh and how much would a new one cost/what’s it come with, the bare minimum to play SF4).
Thanks (if you did! xD) for reading all this. =)
EDIT: He’s selling it for $175 but I could talk (the friend) down to 150 maybe. This comes with the Xbox and the 20 gig harddrive (possibly the controller). If I could talk him to 150 for just the 360 and the hard drive would it be worth?
wether it’s used a lot or not doesn’t really raise the chance of a red ring. Least not in my experience, dont NEED a router but it’s good to have if you dont already have one and want to swap from your pc and xbox.
otherwise just plug in the ethernet to the xbox and you’re good to go.
uh… smallest hard drive is 20 but it gets full fast if you plan on putting SF4 onto the HD itself. And if you decide to DL any games, it’ll get full quick but that’s all on what you plan on doing.
No you don’t need a controller, not for SF4 since you have a TE, but for any other game you do, but you already mentioned he has a controller in decent condition so why is this an issue?
to go online again you just need internet service, dsl or cable etc. 'high speed’
Live costs 49.95 for a 12 month card. Smaller time frames cost more… a month is like 7.99 i think so yeah if you can afford it buy a whole year.
And the cost of SF4? I don’t know maybe 30? check gamestop or buy it on these forums people sell their SF4/blazblue/kof games non stop lol.
On the forums they advised to install the game onto the HD to lower the load times, technically you can do this with almost any game. but since I have a 20 gig, once I did that it took up a lot of space, exactly how much I don’t remember. You don’t HAVE to do that though, it’s optional.
It makes no difference if you have a 20GB or a 60GB or (whatever the next higher up 360 drive is), as long as it’s installed you will reap the full benefits. Just go with the 20GB.
And yes, 150 for a 360 + hard drive is a good deal. Hopefully this friend of yours is trustworthy, because buying used 360s is usually a very bad gamble.
I just recently tried to put together the cheapest possible xbox configuration, I already had a te stick, but i still want 2 controllers. This is what I did.
Xbox360 20g w/ hdmi and NO power brick. - 80
generic power brick - 10
2 wired controllers - 25
Then just sf4
anyways, i wouldnt pay 150 for a 20gb xbox. You could do 100 all day on ebay.
also, I know you just want to play sf4, but get a hard drive, what happens if ssf4 is a downloadable addon or something? Better safe than sorry considering the minimal price difference.
If you plan on using the xbox for more it’s always good to have a hard drive. castle crashers is awesome :X.
It’s personal opinion but yeah, I don’t use my hard drive for much but after downloading a couple of arcade games and installing SF4 onto it I have maybe 4 gigs left. I also have a 20 gig drive. It depends on what you plan on doing really.
You don’t need to install SF4 on the xbox HD, it makes no difference. On the PS3 however you want to install it as it does make a vast change in loading times.
You don’t really need to install SFIV on the 360, it makes an almost unnoticeable difference. One of the best things about XBL is all the arcade games and videos and such though, which you will need a hard drive for.
Good XBLA games include: Fighters
SFII HD Remix
MvC2
Garou: MOTW
Soul Calibur 1
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
Other
Shadow Complex
Castlevania: Syphony of the Night
Castle Crashers
Geometry Wars
Worms 2
Phantasy Star II
Carcassonne
TMNT 1989
Splosion Man
Banjo Kazooie
Banjo Tooie
Battlefield 1943
The Secret of Monkey Island
Bionic Commando
Braid
Rez HD
etc etc
I’m surprised at how much Xbox 360 prices have depreciated in the last four years. I think I paid $250 for my system in 2006, and that was used. Now I’ve seen Xbox 360s go for $66 on eBay. The only way you’re going to get a price like that for a Playstation 3 is if the Blu-Ray drive is a dead duck.
Annnnyway, I’d personally recommend you buy the system new, as buying used can be risky business. Get an arcade system, drop in a 20G hard drive (this can be used if you like), and pick up a copy of Street Fighter IV for the thirty-odd dollars they’re charging for it these days. It’ll cost more to buy it new, but you’ll be glad when you’re guaranteed an HDMI port and you don’t have to sit around with your thumb up your butt for three weeks, waiting for it to come back from Microsoft.
If you REALLY wanted to save money, you could just buy the game for your PC from Steam for thirty dollars. That way you have some degree of customization (some guy on SRK actually hacked out the announcer voices!) and you can use a game controller that won’t drive you berzerk. The standard Xbox 360 controller is fine for most things, but fighting games aren’t one of them.
As for getting your 360 online all you need is an ethernet cable to connect from the back of the 360 to your router that you use to connect your computer to the internet.
If your friend is talking about a wireless adapter do us all a favor and plan to never play SF4 online if you plan to be wireless.
Since you’re asking questions about other games I don’t think you’re interested in this 360 “Just for SF4” if you want to start buying Arcade titles and more games you might want to consider investing in a bigger HDD.
I think you’d be best buying a new xbox, spec as the arcade is so cheap now, risking the RROD really isn’t worth it. Microsoft insist they’ve fixed the problems with RROD in the new consoles so it should be safe.
As your asking about other games tho, you’ll prob want to upgrade eventually, it might be cheaper in the long term to just buy an elite. I guess that depends on your current finances!
I’d go with smiler and recommend you buy a new console, that way you make sure it’s under warranty from Microsoft should anything go wrong with it.
If anything, I believe you can buy used consoles from Gamestop (yea yea, i know) and you can get a warranty from them, so if anything happens to the console (RROD or whatevs) they’ll replace it on the spot.
cheapest setup
-RROD xbox plus power brick - 30(friend)
-sfIV - 30(ebay)
-Av cables 10
thats $70 for me
luckily i know how to fix the xboxs and my friend had already gotten a new one. But that would be the cheapest solution if you knew how to fix one and had a friend with a broken one.
