FYI, Gamestop is selling Microsoft refurbished 360’s w/ 20g HDD, 2 controllers, ethernet, headset for $200. Still eligible for MS warranty too. Call your GS before you go in, because if they dont have one at that store, they can see what stores in your area do.
Noob friends ftmfw. Friend of mine cracked the screen of his psp, went out right away and bought a new one. Tried to tell him to return it, but he tossed the receipt, so he sold me his broken one for $25, and I got a replacement screen for $25. Turned around and sold it for $100.
I did buy him lunch afterwards.
If you’re going to get a 360 set-up, get the hard drive. You’ll eventually get one anyway, and the $175 your friend is offering sounds pretty good.
I think I’m gonna get an Arcade 360. There’s enough memory on it to save my SF4 game data, right? That’s all I really care about.
I say get a 20GB hard drive. There is a mandatory Dashboard update that takes up most of the space on a memory card. You also might want to install SF4 from the Guide menu to increase load times and reduce wear and tear on your disk drive.
Ah ok. I can buy a used 20gig hard drive for 50 bucks and a new arcade 360 for 200, so that 250 is less than the 300 for a new elite 360. Does that make sense? Are there important differences other than just the hard drive?
If the elite is a jasper, get it. The $50 is worth never worrying about RROD.
Another benefit of installing SFIV to a hard drive is that the 360 is quieter. With the game installed, the disc doesn’t have to spin whenever you have to load anything. When the disc spins, it’s really loud. So if quietness is important to you at all, it’s worth it to get the hard drive.
If you don’t want to deal with potential red ring issues, I’d do the research and make sure you end up with a Jasper 360 (Jasper is the production name for newer 360’s that have shrunk CPU and GPU dies that run cooler). Some people are willing to risk it if they know how to fix it/have the time, but if dealing with a RRoD is an inconvenience, I’d make sure I got a Jasper. A significantly used Jasper is probably less likely to RRoD than a barely used Falcon or Zephyr (older model 360’s). Additionally, since Jasper units run cooler, they are more likely to have quieter fans than older 360’s.
And no, you don’t need a controller if you have a TE stick already.
Edit: one more note about RRoD
The problem with getting RRoD isn’t so much getting it once. It’s that it often means you end up getting stuck in a cycle of RRoD that doesn’t end. Microsoft has become infamous for sending back 360’s that are “fixed” just enough so the 360’s don’t RRoD then and there, but are just as likely if not more likely to RRoD again. They don’t deal with the actual cause of RRoD (which many believe to be the GPU heatsink warping due to heat stress and poor clamping to the motherboard). They just slap on a new heatsink with the same flawed design and the likelihood of RRoD doesn’t go away for the replacement 360. So it’s a good idea to just avoid RRoD in the first place unless you’re willing to open up the 360 and fix the clamping yourself.
brand new arcade comes with 256MB memory installed in it. most new arcade units have the Jasper chip in it so they are way better then used or refurbished xboxes.
also if you want a harddrive, check out ebay. I bought a used 20gb harddrive for 20 bucks with free shipping off a US ebay seller. You can find 60gb ones for like 30-50 bucks which is totally worth it in my opinion.
But if you have the cash for an elite version and its a jasper unit then I would get the elite because the elite comes with a 120 gb hd and a headset.
