Public Shooting and GC Thread: Active Shooter reported at LAX

i was driving to work when i heard obama on the radio with " Silent Night" playing in the backround on a rock station so i knew something was up. God this made me sick. I have 5 kids myself and i feel for those families. i can’t imagine having to go through the loss of a child and i hope i never will. I hadn’t prayed in a long time but i prayed for those families that night. God be with them.

I tried not to laugh, fuck you pertho…

The country cares less about mental health than just about anything, so I don’t know if this is likely. I think the fact that the guns were obtained legally is kind of the point. Everybody keeps saying these incidents would happen no matter what because the shooters would just buy the guns illegally, but has that happened yet? They all seem to be cases of easy access to weapons.

I don’t know how hard. Harder than it is now at least. I’m just some guy on srk so I don’t know all the details. I think the part we disagree on is whether this is somehow unfair. It doesn’t bother me that someone without the time or money to jump through hoops (if they’re reasonable) won’t be able to own guns anymore than it does that the same applies to an airplane pilot. So “harder than it is” is my unsatisfying answer, and I think rigorous training courses are at least a start.

Yeah, people pick and the choose what personal freedoms they care about as much as they pick and choose their bible verses. Just choosing to live in a society already, by definition, severely restricts your freedom, so there has to be some sort of compromise. But with something like airport scanners where there’s money to be made if we give up some rights, we’ll do just that, and with guns, where the money depends on keeping a steady supply, we fight for our rights. I wouldn’t feel too bad telling a schoolteacher that she can’t have all the weapons she wants. I’m sure she wouldn’t be Sarah Connor in the Great Uprising of 2031 lol.

As for the armed teachers, bwahahaha! An obese 40 year old will take out a young man in a bulletproof vest who takes a classroom by surprise? Will the teacher keep the gun on him so one of his suicidal 8th graders can grab it and start shooting? Does anyone actually think that’s a good idea? Of course, it would be a way to get armed guards in every school, something the libertarians and especially Tea Party types would love. They’re against big government unless it’s for something they agree with.

cases of easy access to weapons? the like 4-5 reported, compared to the 40 everyday going on in ghettos?

Yeah point I was going to make…

HoneyBBQGrundle is only looking at cases of mass shootings only, where the guns were obtained legally by mentally ill individuals…

I just intuitively doubt that most gun crimes in the U.S were committed using legally obtained firearms…

The prohibition of guns may stop mass shootings such as these, but the bigger problem is other crimes committed with guns should this happen…

I think psychological evaluation before being allowed to have a gun would prevent incidents such as these much better than prohibiting the sale of guns…

I’m fine with psychological evaluations, but where will it end? In this case, the mother was fine and it was the kid who had issues. Should people with mentally-ill kids not get guns? Then what if it’s in the extended family? Can they not allow those mentally-ill from a few yards of their house because there’s a gun in there? This guy would have gotten guns anyway he could have, even if his mother owned none. So really, you’re going to go as far as taking guns away from the public and I believe that is unjust and hampering to lawful owners.

I don’t believe there will be any middle ground where the anti-gun side will be happy.

Fixed right?

I don’t know why we need to have any regulations at all, as those just punish weapons companies, and I want my nukes dammit.

From the desk of Morgan Freeman

Reading that in Morgan Freemans voice was the greatest thing ever.

(@Neesa, you don’t owe me $Cunt yet despite two shootings happening in a hospital and a mall already.)

I hate to bring up race again, but…

It would seem that we’re already in “Dead Little White Girl Rotation” when it comes to the victims, right down to focusing on the female victims–which, granted, there were more of–compared to the little boys that were killed. I don’t think I’ve actually noticed them mentioning a little boy yet actually… Looks like they’re choosing to focus on this Emilie Parker girl.

Regardless, I’ll be avoiding the “news” for at least a week and just watch the Weather Channel if I need to know if it will rain or not.

nods

Every country has its share of “disgusting arsehole bastards” and every country is at least somewhat racist because every country has some type of minority the majority oppresses in some way. The “hush hush” political correctness is hardly just England as well since I’d say that applies here as well, especially given that large amount of (almost always white Americans) who seem surprised that racism actually still exists. Even for the non-“liberal” ones, partly because they define racism so narrowly in the first place.

For the record, I was talking more about the problems I’ve been hearing about with regards to the incoming Middle Eastern population and subsequent increase of violent homophobia when I mentioned immigration. I was just curious about the riots though, so thanks for clarifying a bit.

Obviously if that ever made the news–hahahahaha–where many people could see it (ad infintium), then a bunch of people would see those kids as the exception to the “rule” of that area that wants to take our freedom (to shoot the fuck out of each other) or…something.

Yeah, I can’t understand why she’s groping her nonexistent breasts either. Shit’s disturbing.

Seriously, though, if you bother trying to “understand” why, then you’re just wasting time. You’re never going to understand, partly because the shooter is dead, and so you’re just going to drive yourself to misery and insanity. I’d personally be fine with that because, hey, not my mind getting raped there. However, if you spend all your time just wondering, more importantly you’re not going to do anything to try to change things for the better.

So…yeah. Don’t waste your time trying to “understand”. Spend your time doing something more worthwhile.

“Should”. They won’t, though.

If they do, as explained earlier, it will either be only as brief talking points by “experts” or in terms of draconian measures which will both only make things worse and not actually fix, much less prevent, anything like this.

Speaking of pointless draconian measures…

Merciful Minerva, that Libertarian plan is so dumb. …And yet I’m still curious as to what Bill Maher says about this situation.

Admittedly, I’m not sure if masochism plays a factor in that curiosity though.

Once again Morgan Freeman proves he’s intelligent about most things. Given the cult of celebrity, he’s someone that people might actually listen to as well.

Still not holding my breath about that unfortunately.

Don’t be stupid. Everyone has a right to protect his or her property. The Second Amendment makes it far easier when it’s a giant dude going up against your frail ass.

^Not that frail buddy, and I would shoot you dead before letting you take my guns. I just be trollin :lovin:

Though on the second hand, why can’t I use rpgs/flamethrows/nerve gas/and nukes to protect mah property? :>

In the entire history of mass shootings and attempted mass shootings, has even one of them been thwarted by a quick-thinking citizen carrying a gun?

Sorry for the delayed reply. If ‘celebrity’ is not a good choice of words, replace it with ‘relevant.’ For even the fifteen minutes of fame, the grudge of the killer springs into public awareness. Absolutely, these people go in with motive, and it likely isn’t to become ‘famous’. But the continuous media conditioning and coverage would be difficult to ignore for even the most isolated of people. Somewhere, someone remembers your (mis)deeds. When you feel like you have nothing to live for, I believe that can become an unexpectedly powerful motivator.

We do live in an age where we can choose the news we want to see. Do not underestimate the number of people that simply seek knowledge from the same source, and communicate that information, publicly everywhere they interact. When given ultimate freedom, people tend to imitate each other.

We do bicker about guns. We bicker about *way too much(. Never apologize for an honest observation you have made from your heart and your experiences. I don’t have to agree with you to take something important away from your opinion.

Sorry for lateness. Finals week. I did not claim they were difficult to obtain. I stated the fact that they are more difficult to obtain than other periods of US history, and particularly automatic weapons.

I always found that wikipedia quote on per-capita ownership to be particularly telling in America. At one in four households with a firearm, the math suggests that people who own guns tend to own several.

Morgan Freeman thing is of course fake.

Very late to hearing this but is it wrong of me to feel that homeboy having a minor mental illness is bullshit? Like it feels like a way to excuse what he did.

Nobody gave these weapons to the shooter, though. He stole them.

The moment you steal a firearm, it’s no longer “legally obtained” - even if the person you stole it FROM did own it legally.

Simple fact of life: if someone wants to get a gun, they will, and they’ll steal it if they have to.

Mental health is not the issue, gun regulation is not the issue. This could have happened ANYWHERE.

Yes, even in places like Australia or Japan, this could have happened.

Word, it’s about time you people started taking responsibility for your own actions and stopped blaming your parents. Good on ya.

But that nigga was 20. Kid doesn’t enter the equation.

When are you 18 you are old enough to bleed for you country, which imo makes you a man, not being able to legally get wasted on alcohol.
