Not that I advocate abuse of this tactic but at FR last weekend I stumbled across option select crouch tech + cr. fierce or slide. Basically against Chun they go into a block string and you hit db+ lp,lk, hp.If they throw its a tech and if they overhead its a cr. hp. It’s like when ryu or ELF(he used it against me at evo but I didn’t think of this til now) uses crouch tech + cr. strong/st.strong so I tried this variation with Bison. Maybe this has viper applications?
On another note Mavrick the HDR guy player SF4 and faced a sagat who was using some shoryu motion and four buttons I think tech and shoryu. I don’t know if you can shoryu from crouch in this version because of the shortcuts but it was the stupidest thing I ever heard it was like a crouch tech uppercut and it looked like it was working but I just couldn’t believe it.I was in shock. As was all my friends it was mash OS. That’s all he knew.Apologies if this was posted anywhere else. And I placed top 32 I was told but didn’t get to play/beat any of the better known names.
FYI Against Rog he can do ex overhead so it is not a good idea.
I gotta give you props on the info, because I actually used this in a set with a Chun player today. I used it in a different spot though. The Chun player was getting an untechable, doing her command crossup, and then either throwing, doing a low, or going straight into overhead. Toward the end of the set I figured out that this option select basically negates that mixup altogether. Powerful shit.
Hey guys, been considering picking up dictator as my first charge character and i just wanted to know you guys opinions of him. Oh and btw whats the word on him in super? Hows his new ultra looking and stuff?
I love playing with bison. I’ve tried my hand at several characters and Seth is the only other one that I could call my alt. I did create him after all!
Here’s some pretty conclusive information for you to start with:
Bison’s strengths: Fantastic normals. Shoto cr.forward is boss but st.mk is almost just as good. The only thing that makes shoto cr.forward so strong is because it can cancel into a fireball but Bison’s st.forward angle is so good for ground footsies and pokes it is useful in every single matchup and is more versatile imo than shoto cr.forward. St.rh is a great on the ground poke for preemptively stopping jumps and works as a decent anti-air. Does really good damage. Scissor kick pressure is great, not many characters have pressure ‘loops’ in the game, I’d say bison’s is very high up there below the more dangerous ‘loops’ like Sagat’s and Cammy’s. It’s no vortex but it serves as a pseudo-frame trap and gets the job done. It’s scary being on the receiving end and being afraid to push buttons. Bison has above average escape moves providing he has meter. Bison’s EX headstomp is a very good high risk/high reward move. when you fail you get punished big time, but the reward is substantial. Bison also has punish answers to almost everything in the game, they’re not devastating but they add up. All of these things combined gives Bison a fantastic corner game, more so than most of the characters in the roster. A big strategic part about playing Bison is to get the opponent into the corner where they will meet their doom.
Bison’s weaknesses: Half of his specials are nullified easily. DR is FA’able, Headstomp can just be walked back on or dashed out of, Skulldiver’s active frames is puny and easily avoidable as well, and non-ex psycho crusher is utterly useless outside of combos. FADCing is an expensive way of getting in a tic throw or getting a few more points of damage. No solid get off me moves. Has a difficult time comboing into ultra and therefore landing a comeback.
Bison in super: there are many things we’re speculating on given rumored info but nothing is certain. The rumors are: cr.short has more plus frames on block and are easier to link on hit. st. roundhouse has improved priority. Bison has received a slight damage nerf for unknown reasons while PC gets a slight damage boost. People think that maybe PC has improved overall. Based on the iphone app, Bison’s DR crosses up and he can do short short short xx psycho crusher. EX PC now absorbs fireballs more consistently in the iphone app. These are all rumors. What we know for sure is that his second ultra is boss. Not only does it look the part, but it seems like we’ll be able to use it to punish any big whiffs and makes bison a threat against fireball characters from full screen. Bison will most likely be landing this ultra fairly often, at least more often than in SF4 because it is quicker and requires no charge to perform (double QCF). Bison will most likely be landing the ultra raw I’d say more than 50% of the time he does hit, meaning no damage scaling. Despite this he can still land it off of hell attack.
Thank you sir, its refreshing to see some one who actually enjoys playing their main instead of constantly bitching about their set backs, i will definitely give bison i try and hopefully he fits cause i really want to learn a charge character and bison is just too cool(The animation to start his ultra is probably the best in the game). But from a gameplay point of view i love his corner pressure and his normals(st. rh is amazing) and i think the only thing that im not completely feeling is his lack of a decent ultra so if the rumors turn true that will be remedied in super. But thanks for the feedback and ill definitely try to hang around these forums.
Hey, I was playing a Ryu today, and hit him with a HS while he was focusing, and it broke armor. That seemed a little odd to me, and was wondering why it could have possibly happened. I MAY have accidentally HS’d him AFTER he started the focus, if it helps. Can’t remember lol.
Hi, this is beginning to annoy me recently. How do you meaty a shoto on their wakeup and which move works best? I have been trying to time a cr.MK on their wakeup and it gets reversed every time i play. Am i using the wrong choice of move, timing it wrong or does the shoto dp beat out meaties every time? Seems my wakeup pressure games leaves a lot to be desired. i.e. jump in - get reversed, ground pressure - get reversed. Stand and do nothing seems the only safe option. Please tell me im wrong.
I like this post. I recently started using Bison again after a long hiatus and he’s pretty fun. Although I’m planning on maining Guy in SSF4 I’m glad they’ve made a few adjustments to Bison.
I’m wondering, what do you mean by Bison being able to set up his new Ultra after a “Hell attack?”
One thing I like about Bison now is his dash. I used to be afraid of using it before because I hate running into fireballs, but it really does improve his pressure game when you know your opponent is getting scared.
Guruofgreatness, that cr. fp OS works pretty well against chun, thanks. Still need to try it on viper; i especially like it since I’ve never been (any probably will never be) good at high blocking OHs. I play rog too and was wondering if i could use this OS tech/cr. fp with him as well? Anyone use this for anyone other than dic?
If you through someone in the corner and keep walking over their body, back dash on their wake up and then dash BACK IN and throw them. This seems to work for me at least once a match. Its fairly safe because most people dont react fast enough to Bisons dash and they get confused by the dash out-dash in.
As far as I know I came up with it and I play Bison but rog, sakura, maybe a couple others should be able to use it actually I think it will be a very good tool against the 3s chars in SSF4.
White Shadow you from FTL man you should come out to zp on fridays and Final Round Arcade on tuesdays.
Tosh1977 13 frame reversal windows are the scourge of every bison user in this game. You have to make him fear using wake up shoryu whether by using baits then when you trained him and are sure he has a brain you can pressure on wake up if he doesn’t have a brain just keep baiting shoryus.
Can anyone explain why I would ever want to do raw SK after a blocked SK? I can think of two reasons: 1) you might have your opponent really trained to not press buttons, and you use raw SK to reset your range; 2) after blocked SK you’re at a range where your opponent will likely press a button that scissors will beat (Ryu’s c.forward?), and so you scissor in to catch that move.
I never ever raw scissors within SK pressure. Do you? Why/when?
