You wanna say Rose is free against the Twins? =D
I wouldn’t call a match this early into the game’s life… all I’m saying is if you play me, and I knock you down… just block. Please.
More the reason Rose players should really just block on wakeup to begin with lol.
sksksksk: I studied your AE videos, and as a new Rose player they were a ton of help. Thanks a lot for posting them!
I got some FT5’s to put up later, managed to get some good matches. No problem, I’m glad they helped :).
FT5 between me, and Kobrakoun, a Fei player:
I planned to get other FT5’s up, but those plans didn’t fall though. I’ll be looking around during the weekend.
Finally have footage of me playing. And offline! Was hoping I could get some critique. It’s VS a Honda.
http://www.justin.tv/dandyj/b/288333715 exactly 56 minutes in.
To set up the situation, my stick is broken. In particular, my fierce button likes to not register maybe 30% of the time unless I’m very careful and hit it forcefully, so a lot of empty jumps/un-stuffed jumpins/soul throws instead of ultra were because of that. I really should’ve bummed a stick from someone for the actual tournament. It’s also Wasada style 2v2, which is why I only got 1 game. Sucks because I USUALLY lose my first match of best of 3s because I tend to need to have a read on my opponent in order to beat them.
Self-observations:
I neutral jumped waay too much, I think. I watched this Honda in his previous matches and notice that he would go for the SAME ochio throw setup OVER AND OVER so my gameplan was to neutral jump a lot, which eventually got me butt-slammed quite a bit. Rose’s neutral jump options aren’t very good. :<
I also threw WAY too much. I don’t know what I was thinking, honestly. You can even hear people in the background groaning over it, lmao. Even for a really open punish, I just threw him instead. A lot of the time I threw the wrong way too (i.e. forward throwing him when I was in the corner). I think it may have been due to being nervous about my fierce button to go for a cr.hp xx hk spiral punish. I also noticed that he wasn’t teching, as a lot of Honda players don’t until they get trained into doing it. Maybe it was my nerves that pushed me to go for easy damage instead of playing smart.
My biggest critique is probably that I just didn’t play the matchup right. Ever since AE came out I have a tendency to try and disrespect Honda players and just try to bully them with throws/getting in their face when I should really be trying to zone them out and frustrate them like I did in Super. I SEVERELY underestimated his jumping range the entire matchup which eventually cost me the match. I think I just got flustered and forgot how to actually play the matchup properly. Need more tournament experience. And Honda experience.

Hello Rose boards.
I posted a bunch of casuals with my Rose on my YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/HiBabenhausen
It’s all matches against local guys that I play often.
I’m trying to move from a super lame playstyle to a more ‘AE’ one.
The results are strange.

Usually in the Honda match-up, I generally try to out-foosie the opponent, and that works very well. I think her neutral jump and jump back fierce works pretty well in this match-up, and I saw you use that. Don’t throw a fireball within distance, because he’ll just jump over, hit you with a jumping attack, and you’ll eat a full combo. If you’re jumping at him, be aware if he has meter, because he can EX headbutt you on reaction. If he tries to Sumo Splash you while you’re not in a knockdown state, use cr.fierce as he’s coming back down. It’ll stuff it. If you’re not in a position to stuff it, you can block it and punish. This match-up was pretty bad in Super due to Honda’s damage output (ouch), but it’s definitely tolerable in AE due to his damage nerfs across the board. Don’t worry too much about it, you’ll get better with more tournament experience, like I did :).
Here are my match videos.

I got impatient in the first video put up.
Note: To those of you who get the “You must be logged in to do that” error while trying to post in this thread, there is a solution. Go to the first page, and make your post from there. It will bypass the problem.
My Rose after 15-20 hours of training.
That’s some solid rose man, Makoto has become a really bad match up for me in ae, she has some serious bite now. I would watch where you’re throwing you sparks though, when she has U2 loaded you need to really be careful and this is much less important but I find that Makoto is a character you have to attack more. You were backing off a lot and, I think anyway, Makoto is made for that kind of match, she doesn’t have the tools to really deal with people in her face.
Some guy said to you in the comments that lk spiral is the least safe, that’s right but I would like to say that all spirals are unsafe if you don’t space it. I’m in the habit of using mk spirals myself but don’t think you’ll be fine if you use it. People like guile can gief can pinish spirals for free. The best time to use lk spiral is in certain combos you can hit with lk because of the quicker startup where mk misses and you can save your meter but it’s hard to feel that distance out.
I hope that was too condesending, your rose is probably better than mine lol just my two cents.
Hi guys. Total Rose newbie here. Chun main looking for potential alts. Lots of jumping/getting trapped/Ultra fails/discontinued combos etc.

Old version, so gutting it out with shamwow in the meantime. Ouroboros(e) shenanigans to come once I get to play Super or AE again.
I watched the 2nd vid against the Ken.
-Don’t use the spark so much, it sucks. Use reflect to build meter and shoot projectiles back every time one is fired at you.
-Use spark but confirm it with cr. jab, cr. lk, or just cr.mp if you’re in a good position to punish.
-I saw one soul throw when Ken was on the ground. I assume it was just by mistake?
- Use cr. mp and DF mk slide as your footsie options and to advance, as you ate some fireballs just by walking into them. Once you land a slide you can go for a throw or fake the throw and go for a combo.
-Nice U1 punish.
Hope I helped!
Another vid of me playing. Its a bit old so my tactics have changed since. Add me, subscribe, friend, etc…
Would also appreciate a rating of my performance.
Thanks! Yeah, the Soul Throws are by mistake, lol. After talking to the other players, they agreed on those points too. When I’ve time I’ll get those bnb timings correctly. I am so proud to have figured out drill xx Super by myself, without any kind of guide.
My access to Super/AE has been inconsistent as of late, pretty much waiting for July to get the physical/PC version. Making do with ye olde is not so nice, especially when someone brings out a Sagat.
Conveniently, there’s been a few Rose/Chun comparison posts in the general d thread, I am going over those again. They will certainly help the transition.
PS Alt 1 Color 10 :lovin:
Anyone wanna rate my videos posted above? Perhaps critique my performance? I think I have some pretty good footsies and punish reads. Other than that…
I think you played very well, nice work. I liked how you used nj. fierce, it helped a lot in that match. For the three times that the Yang player whiffed his roll / got his roll blocked near you, you could have gone for a more damaging punish than c.mp xx Spiral. I would have done c.hp xx Spiral instead. The moments I’m referring to are at 0:29, 0:53, and 1:35. Every extra bit of damage helps.
Thanks bro! Yeah, I know exactly what you’re referring to. I should’ve known better but kind of had cr. mp xx spiral mapped into my brain. Looking forward to more comments from any of you. Cheers.
