I definitely agree that we can’t just emulate something from a video, and not know the true reason why we are doing it. In order to use it effectively, you have to really learn how it is effective, and why many players use that specific strategy to his/her advantage. In the Sako Rose video, it was apparent that we were all surprised by the finishing combo at the end of round 2. Before the combo at the end, I really took notice of how he used footsies, as he did really well with that.
Yeah, I mean, that combo is probably something we’ve all done, or at least fooled around with in training, but in honesty, have any of us actually tried that in a real game against someone that WASN’T terrible?
The combo’s been done before in some vanilla matches. (high level play since people seemed so fixed on this at the moment.) But since Rose overall isn’t played, you’re not gonna see it done on a consistent basis.
it’s also understandable a few people are praising this. But for the wrong reasons. Even if the sagat was playing pretty meh, Sako’s spacing and footsies was pretty on point.
There’s a reason why we don’t use that combo;
- low damage output for the meter
- it’s fairly difficult to srsly pull off.
- there are just better things to do
^ Thanks.
THAT SAGAT player happens to be one of the most noted personalities in the japanese sagat community(known for his many contributions) who maintained his top 50 bp status up until the last couple of months.go over the video again from the sagat’s perspective and you’d see that he wasnt being all that bad.he got outplayed by a very good player and thats that.
I have 3 new SSFIV videos:

- The Juri match was noticeably laggy, thus why U2 wasn’t coming out towards the end of round 1.
I was thinking about inserting different game themes, rather than using the in-game music for future SSFIV videos.
As a newer player, I am baffled by the 2-3 pages of Sako discussion. Besides the combo that is actually quite practical (obvious in frame data and used in combo videos), I don’t see anything too stellar. Sagat clearly didn’t know the “Rose blockstring” game too well, nor was he ready for Rose’s cross-up into Ultra combo.
How Sako managed to land the aforementioned combo is even more meh. Walk up mk. Granted the play is brilliant on Sako’s part but when you deduce Sagat’s options in the corner, with 1 bar of meter, it was a done deal before he ever got up.
I don’t see anything in those videos that I don’t use/practice/study/etc… Sako is my personal God of gaming (Mains BBHood in VS) but I know that vid isn’t that damn good from a learning perspective.
I know, but DAMN is it refreshing to see someone ELSE besides the Soul Society use Rose. Our girl needs exposure.
She has enough exposure.
Arturo’s like the only one that plays her that does anything with her (well, Luffy does too, but he rarely gets to come over here so…yeah). She’s the most underused character in the game…even Dan gets more love.
off a counterhit sc mk in the corner ? i’d like to see the actual numbers, factoring in the damage reduce. mp->super was the easiest choice, did he only go for the flashiest combo knowingly ? i don’t think so.
But I like to look flashy so people think I’m good. <— Sarcasm
Where is this video?
This isn’t a bad thing at all. Abuse it while you can. (especially with how mindless people neglect U2)
If people want to give Rose exposure, start showing up to offline tournaments. Arturo, Luffy, and a few others here are the only ones really going to tournaments and reppin rose.
This is so true. How many times do we typically see Rose on a tournament stream? Zero, at most 1. It’s a fair indication that she’s quite underused. I’ve started to represent Rose offline, both in tournaments and CTF. At CTF, no one uses Rose from what I saw, besides Jae (he said he dropped her for Chun). I’m going to the Guard Crush tournament next week; maybe I’ll be one of the individuals that will be playing on the streamed TV.
I would go and use her, but I was terrible with pad, and I’m even worse while under my stick learning…
And it’s not that enjoyable. I hate having wins corrupted with the tag “Well, he just didn’t know the matchup”.
a win’s a win. If your opponent doesn’t know the matchup, that’s their fault. Have to expect anything. You’d be surprised how many people still don’t know how Rose’s U2 works and most of them simply don’t try to learn anything from other characters while in training.
EDIT: Also good luck finding anything streamwise with SRKLive and Peaceful Jay overall robbing stream monsters from other weeklies and nonbig tournaments.
well it does a good damage, but if you have full meter do a super combo…
the good thing in that combo is that you don’t need to fadc, using just 1 meter bar…so if you have just one, i think is the best choice
by the way if you have 2 meter bar i think this combo is better:
c.hp, mp.spark fadc c.hp, hp_reflect -> soul throw
I think you misread that. It’s the MP Spark, not MP -> Spark. Written out you’re looking at low fierce, strong Spark, FADC, low fierce, fierce Reflect, Soul Throw.
I have some matches between me and a Blanka player. After these matches, I don’t know what to think of Blanka anymore. He’s become my hardest match-up for Rose.
Here are the matches:

Bad habits I’ve noticed:
-I press buttons a bit too much.
-I backdash too much.
-Kind of using crouch teching a bit too much.
How to remedy:
-Simply becoming more patient.
-Playing more Endless than Ranked (It’s clear I’ve grown these habits from Ranked.)
-Playing more offline, which I’m doing by going to more tournaments and CTF.
Any problems that anyone sees from my end in this match-up?
