Psychic Hotline: Rose Video Thread

exactly. it’s the fact he is a highly skilled player so you guys shouldn’t feel like crap just because his Rose seems better than your own.

two things happened after that stun combo he did

  1. For a second, I wanted to quit playing fighting games
  2. I thought how dumb 1) was, then I realized I never want to face him in tournament…ever.

sako mains SSF4

Whats up with everybody/almost everybody acting like this combo is new or somethin? Not tyrna hate on sako i commend his play and the exection of the cr.mpxxex.ssparks (though he was plinking, not knock it just saying it makes it easier), but that combo(the one he finshed the round with) has been awhile for a while now and should be something everybody at the very least puts into practice since it does more damge than super but for a 1/4 of the cost(in the corner). His footsies impressed me more than the combo.

yeah idk why people are having orgasms over this?

guess because most haven’t seen it done yet? I know I haven’t and it looked cool

shrugs

another one i like in the corner that I do, is jump in hp, u2, hp > hp soul spark and then cr. hp to hp reflect to soul throw.

That’s why, because out of all the Rose videos I’ve seen thus far, I’ve never seen someone attempt that kind of combo like Sako did. I’m guessing it’s because it uses up a lot of EX meter, and meter management is very important.

Brasil SSF4 Rose

Here is the Mindua are from Brazil, here is some video on my psn.

Good combo at the end, but when does Rose ever get dizzies? I got one today, but the other player was at low enough health that c.HP xx reflect finished them off.

Sako really underestimated that Sagat, and with good reason. Anybody see an uppercut? That video is just a prime example of top players dominating mediocre/inexperienced players, regardless of which character they pick. Dee Jay can get those EX Slash Loops also in the corner, it’s just uncommon to see when it’s pro vs pro.

Also, it’s people drooling over Sako, not Rose. That’s fanboys for you.

It is still interesting to see Sako use someone like Rose, especially when he’s really known for his Cammy. Wouldn’t we all be curious if any pro player used someone besides their main or secondary? It makes all of us think: “How good can that player be with that character?” It’s sort of like when JWong started using Makoto.

Well the point is that there is no god-level player using Rose at the moment and a very low number of high level players, she’s probably the most underused character in the game considering how good she supposedly is. So it’s safe to say we all want her to get some love from players like sako.

hmm, not to steal your guys thunder or anything, but I haven’t seen this execution level of Rose in actual footage either. Our finest examples are guys like Sabin and Luffy (where is Saqs at?) who are likely a lot better at Rose’s footsies right now, but don’t put much emphasis on her combos (I do credit Sabin for actually using the EX spark to U1 combo though).
So when you see the very first video of someone not known to that char, and it beats everything you’ve seen, you are expected to be excited about the new possibilities. Really.

We know EX loop is possible but nobody ever seems to get in the situation to do it right. That’s what differs.

its because everyone only thinks about either “omg its sako” or “omfg what a sick combo” but not thinking about why he did it and his footsies.

All hail the new Sako combo!

Joking aside, I’m sure a lot of people already knew about that combo. It’s just that Sako popularizes it, because he does it in match play. It’s pretty much been has been like that with just about every character he’s touched… the “Sako combo” with Cammy, cr.hp xx legs loop with Chun, etc.

But yeah, i was fixated on his footsies as well, especially since I got owned in a Sagat set not too long ago in which I was kind of lost. I’d be nice to see more of his Rose though against stronger opponents.

that sagat player was one of the top 50 bp players in the original iteration of sf4,saying that he sucks after watching a single match of his(and that too a one were he was going up against sako) is being judgemental.

no. ive watched countless rose vids since vanilla, and this one rose showed me things i hadn’t seen before, even if i knew they were possible. he did a c.mk variation on her bnb that (knowing sako) probably works but needs training, he hit confirmed a c.mp into exspiral to counter a s.hk far poke from sagat, and he landed the biggest damage combo possible off a counterhit sc.mk.
perhaps the sagat was a scrub, but he was a scrub that knew his links, his blockstrings, and a few tools to use against rose (s.mk pokes against slides, c.short meaties).
if after that you still thinks that sako’s rose is just your mid-high average rose, either you’re a troll or you’re just lying to yourself.

yeah is simply her loop at the corner with ex spark

when you main the correct timing is not so hard to do, by the way sako’s skill is really outstanding (at list for me)

if you really looked at the statement i said people are too blinded by the combo without thinking about why he did it. i never said he was bad at all, what I’m saying is that everyone is looking at it because its an impressive combo rather than what he was going for with that. A problem with videos is that there will be those who try to emulate the same thing without even knowing why they are doing it. I have learned a few things as well by watching the video but i just want everyone on the same page because i don’t everyone to just imitate something just because it’s eye candy. I want everyone to understand not only why he does the setups he does but when? I’m not trying to put anyone down, just want some people to put their thinking caps on

I agree, this is something often overlooked and almost never discussed. As a newer rose player, it is stuff like why/when/how to use her moveset/combos that has taken the longest to learn. Anyone can learn combos; its the mindgames, footsies, and strategy behind the player that makes the difference. Jae, what did you notice something about the sako video? please share. I mean, we can all see what happened, but WHY is the most important aspect. I can see his Rose is REALLY good, and smart but maybe there is something really clever in there that we (me) are missing
