Psychic Hotline: Rose Video Thread

Never let these fools Chicken Wing you!

Out of every move in the game, I think chicken wing is the move I have punished most with U1. Right up there with demon flips, and Chun’s overhead special.

Hey guys it’s been a while, I’ve been grinding it out with Rose, at one point I was at 5k BP and 1300 PP and then proceeded to lose all my PP so I’m making my way back up. I know these points don’t really have anything to do with skill but it’s a mental thing. Anyways here my favorite match I played last night what do you guys think?

— You didn’t really zone him : Abel was between mid and close range the whole fight. I’ve not seen a lot of cHP/ HP S-Throw, and he jumped at you. Sparks are not that safe at mid range, but against opponent without projectiles they can help if you can get off by enough distance.
— You were outpoked by a grappler : don’t use spirals alone to poke (slow startup), but cMP/cMK ± cancel into spiral : priority is much higher, and you’ve got a frame-trap/combo opportunity
— Careful with random U2 activation : unless you desperately need to get opponent off you, you’ll better use it in a setup, or in aa.

That said the combo from cLK cLK cMPxx Spiral into super was sweet. He got what he deserved by trolling you the whole round ! Nice Rose ! =D

I pretty much agree with what TriasNT has said, you need to work on spacing/zoning/pokes. I also loved that combo you got towards the end of round one. Personally I would have stopped at the spiral because I’m really cautious of my meter management with Rose. I would have tried winning it with chip damage rather than using a super and losing all of my meter. Same with the second time you super’d, I would have just kept the meter or tried comboing more reliably via a drill cancel. But there’s no doubt that you’ve got a good Rose. (:

Seeing as this is a thread about videos, I think it’s the best place to ask this. Do you guys think it would be worth it to record on-line battles similar to what Ov3rheadGreg and Yogaflame24 do on YouTube? I’d plan on recording top players from both SSFIV and the crossover; with probably more Rose footage for SF seeing as she’s my favourite.

Unless you hit Abel while he’s crouching, there’s no reason to use the cr.LK-> cr.LK-> cr.MP xx Spiral confirm. The cr.LP, cr.LK-> cr.MP Spiral version will connect on standing Abel just fine.

Well he didn’t, which is why I am recommending against it obviously.

Yes, but until then, best he errs on the side of caution, especially in clutch situations where one dropped combo could mean losing the round and the alternative hitconfirm can accomplish basically the same thing. I’m all for maximizing damage as Rose but she has some difficult but rewarding combos (cr.HP xx Spark FADC cr.HP xx Spiral) and then some which are just difficult and are not substantially better than their alternatives (cr.LK-> cr.LK-> cr.MP Spiral)

Yeah one thing I did realize after this match, well I’ve known for a while, is that my anti air game is garbage. I know that c.hp is awesome but as far as ST is concerned is using HP the best in all situations or are there certain times, I can think of Cammy’s EX dive kick for one example, that I should be using the others? I was really taken back by this Abel’s affinity with st.lk I wasn’t quite sure what to do so I figured I should be throwing out st.hk and st.hp a lot, I don’t know why I didn’t think to use cr.mp xx spiral, that’s like day one Rose lol. About the Ultra I have a really bad habit of just wanting to use it so instead of waiting for an ideal time I’ll activate for no reason, however once I saw that he just wanted to do EX Painbow the Ultra in the 3rd round was to bait that out. Thanks for your input!

I really wasn’t sure if I was going to win I guess I wanted it to end right there, one of those split second decisions haha. The second time I super’d was a complete mistake I was just excited that he did EX Painbow when I wanted him to so I figured I was going to do cr.mp xx spiral into super, yeah just me getting ahead of myself. Thank you  !

I try and connect with cr.lk, cr.lk because that’s what I’m most comfortable with hit confirming. I know that cr.lp, cr.lk is easier but for some reason I never find myself using cr.lp. You bring up something I’ve never even thought about though, what’s the actual difference between the cr.lk, cr.lk and the cr.mp, cr.lk hit confirms? I know that there is one but I’ve never thought it mattered that much just because I’ve seen both used in the same way.

Seriously guys thanks a ton for the comments and the help, I’ve been taking Street Fighter very seriously for the past 6 months and I feel like my practice is finally paying off. I know I have a long road ahead of me, but I will be one of the top Rose players in the world.

If you’re going to use AA Soul Throw, stick to the EX version. It’s the most reliable. Also, if you know your opponent is itching to do reversal EX Wheel Kick in response to U2 and they are close to you, just slide. You’ll go under the move but still be able to land both hits of U2 and a Soul Throw followup. That being said, you should learn the setups for U2. Don’t throw it out there willy nilly because you’ll be wasting it on chip in most cases.

The cr.LK->cr.LK confirm does a bit more damage and will connect on certain crouching characters that cr.LP,cr.LK will not.

The cLK cLK is a frame-trap, and the cLP cLK is a cancel. Difference ?

— A frame-trap includes a little gap, so that a crouch tech would start to come out and be beaten by your following normal. On block, a shoto or a grappler could mash out a reversal during the gap of the frame-trap.

— cLP cLK is a chain, meaning you can cancel last frames of the cLP into the cLK without gap inbetween. No gap = no opening for mashers. So cLP cLK is safer, but won’t trap crouch techers either. =)

so missed links are now frametraps ? =p interesting !

May as well share the mirrors I got with my new friend at the arcade. [S]And this was what the whole FB group was laughing at[/S]
I’m 1p/blue, yeah both of us need to works on links and not jumping. :shake:

Edit-- few vids on this page, may as well leave unspoilered.

The last two thumbnails are pretty funny too.

I’m afraid i don’t understand what you’re saying.

cLK : +1 on block = 3 frames gap between another cLK = 1 frame faster than most lights = Frame-trap.

Frame-traps does only apply on block obviously, so I don’t understand what is your story of missed links doing in here. What’s your point ?

'Dat EX Soul Throw.

haha sorry man, i was just joking. since the discussion was about the differences between the c.lk-c.lk and c.lp-c.lk confirms ON HIT, you bringing up the frametrap argument made me try to overtheorize what you were thinking =p

In Japan I played LeviStrauss on multiple occasions. He plays 1match win tactics. And really jumps a lot. Sometimes you would expect him to stop jumping at some point. But no… He keeps testing your aa or praying for a lucky jumpin?

Gj to the rose player. Good use of ex ST.

I started recording a few top player matches recently and I finally found one with Rose! It’s Levi vs ma2onz again, but a different match to the one posted above.

ok LeviStrauss likes to jump too much on Rose for no reason -_-
