i always seem to have trouble with Hondas…

GG but I wish you won the fight :slight_smile: most honda’s also beat me up when it comes to mid-air attacks with their jump hp/mp.

why do you jump on a walking back/charge holding honda? and you got hit by too many random headbutts. cut down on the pokes/slides and punish headbutts more. use ex spiral.

yeah man blocking is always an option. Seemed you were going for things too much. I think BigHawk was just playing the walk down game, not doing anything too high risk that wouldn’t be favorable. Rose kind of has to play the match like Honda, but more reactionary at times if Honda seems to be charging. Test all your buttons in close range. It’s remarkable what acts as a “hands-off” mechanism. Knowing how to pressure is critical too.

You have to stay slightly out of Honda’s jab range and low block. Honda wants to keep his charge so he wouldn’t walk forward.

if he heavy headbutts, you can either sweep or ex spiral, depending on the range.

You have to have a good fireball game to keep Honda away; throwing out fireballs without more than 1 purpose (mindlessly throwing them out) spells doom for Rose.

If Honda is walking forward, you can throw out normals; he has no charge, just be wary of jab like always.

Be careful when cr. fiercing to anti air because of stupid j. mk. Sometimes you just have to let it go or punish him as he falls and runs out of active frames.

And Honda has a decent grab box. Don’t try to option select him, but safe jumping is always good. Just play simple sweet and nothing fancy. EX Soul Throw is not bad in this match up either ;D.

Oh… U1 or lose; it’s that simple.

Is OSing U1 not a good idea? I understand not OSing EX Spiral, but why not U1? Does butt splash beat it or something?

Yeah it seems like i have to reserve my pokes more Honda. Never did like the matchup. he can just keep on headbutting me for free when i have no meter which gets me agitated.

Are some of those character specific? That ex spiral -> U2 from a jump in combo looked sexy.

in corner Mk/Hk/Ex spiral well spaced work on everyone,Hk is easyer.
counter hit low Mk/Hk spiral is more or less tricky but i think work on everyone.

mid screen Hk Spiral cancel work only on Rose/Cammy/Dee Jay (i think)

ever since Bison’s nerfs from super, I’ve been having issues with shotos, and Rose seems to get the job done. My Bison couldn’t win vs this akuma but my Rose went 2-0. Please give me some general shoto tips/improvements with how I handle him. Also, I assume I can’t reflect non-purple or non-ex fireballs?

Matchup inquiries would be more appropriately posted in the matchup. Nevertheless…

You can reflect red fireballs and air fireballs. Just need to time it correctly.

Be careful about throwing fireballs when Akuma has meter, since he can punish with EX Demon Flip into throw on reaction.
Don’t recklessly slide in against a jumping Akuma. If he does an air fireball against your slide, it will trade in his favor since he will be able to follow up with a sweep. In that instance if he did a Demon Flip into dive kick, you’ll eat a full combo.
Punish teleport with EX Spark. If you have U2 activated and Akuma teleports, just dash in his direction.
Crouch blocking against Demon Flip setups is typically the way to go, since you’ll be able to avoid all of his options now that palm doesn’t hit high anymore.
When you’re playing footsies against Akuma, the only normal you really need to watch out for is his sweep. Rose’s backdash is good enough that if Akuma goes for st.HK into throw/dp nonsense, she can just escape. Also, always punish st.HK if Akuma whiffs the second hit. Rose’s typical hitconfirm works just fine as a punish here.

Rose wins the meter war in this matchup and she can keep Akuma out fairly well if he’s lacking meter. If Akuma does get in however, block. Don’t try to get out of his Demon Flip setups unless you read a throw. Otherwise, block the dive kick and just deal with his frame traps. Typically, his mixups don’t become very ambiguous until he has you in the corner.

Ran a GACHI set with a good Honda, went 9-3 overall. Hate that matchup.
Day after that, did a FT50 with one of the top 3 players in my community, a Fei main. We all know how painful this match is as well. Lost pretty convincingly, 22-50.

Can’t put up vids since they were offline, but I wanted to ask if anyone’s seen any recent high level play vids for Rose vs Fei/Honda besides FURY’s vid on the previous page. Right now, all I wanna do is study these two matches.

I’ll take Honda over Fei any day. Cr.LP and st.HP are tough for Rose to deal with. He has great jump-ins and air-to-airs as well. And let’s not even mention LP and EX Headbutt.
