Psychic Hotline: Rose Video Thread

If they start fishing for slides with focus attacks you can counter back with spirals OR low forward. After the low forward you can confirm into a EX SPIRAL or just bdash. and whiff punish him.

Here’s some footage of the finals from a tournament we had last Saturday in Houston. I’m “Rose kid” btw…

Rose v. Gen

Quit doing random midscreen EX Soul Spark and EX Spiral It’s a waste of meter, even if you manage to land it.

Don’t activate U2 randomly. You’re wasting it.

Stay in footsies range. Don’t give up space.

Rose v. T. Hawk and Gief

Stay in footsies range. Don’t give up space.

Don’t throw fireballs against Hawk. They’re too easy to punish if your opponent knows how.

Don’t mash on EX Spiral against Gief. Running Bear Grab beats it every time.

Don’t jump on Gief.

I remember that you also told me to stop throwing fireballs as Evil Ryu vs T.Hawk during that Random vs Random game. I’m of the opinion that to tell someone to stop throwing fireballs completely is poor advice. Additional care is needed in certain matchups but fireballs must be there.

I’m not sure how accurate the quote is but I was told that Daigo once said: “Throwing fireballs is like driving a car. There is always a risk of crashing but if you don’t do it then you won’t reach your destination.”

In any other context you’d be right, but Rose does not need fireballs at all to keep Hawk out. In fact, she stands to lose more by throwing out fireballs than to not. To labor the driving analogy. there’s no need for Rose to drive a car to get her destination but if she did try to drive, she would most certainly crash or at least encounter many more obstacles than if she had not. Quote doesn’t match apply this context. We’re not talking about Guile here.

Fireballs are not necessary for Rose to control space in this matchup. Her pokes and cr. HP and ST are all she need to keep Hawk out. Rose’s fireballs don’t do anything useful in this matchup and are not worth the risk. They have horrendous recovery. Rose can only safely throw them out after an untechable knockdown when T. Hawk has no meter for EX Condor Spire, as blockstrings where she doesn’t want to commit to a spiral (even then only EX is safe) or at absolute full-screen range. Latter situation should not be occurring if either player is playing the matchup correctly.

All T. Hawk needs to do is jump and Condor Dive on reaction when he sees Rose chucking plasma. Incredibly easy punish for 120 damage and knockdown. All Rose stands to benefit from throwing fireball is 20 meter and 70 damage if T. Hawk derps out and decides to eat the fireball for no particular reason. Not worth it at all.

ok well fair enough if it really is that bad for Rose, i definately don’t know that much about the character or the matchup especially. But I think my argument still applies to Evil Ryu vs T.Hawk which is when you told me the same thing. Well I guess the overall point is ‘throw enough to make them think about it but not any more’

Yeah, Rose’s fireball is a weak zoning tool. Way too much recovery. Evil Ryu has more reason to throw fireballs than Rose does for sure because there are certain ranges where his pokes can’t reach and his fireball is difficult to punish on reaction. Also has a lot to do with him having a better fireball period. Better recovery, travel speed, etc.

Most characters ALWAYS have a spot to throw a fireball on the screen safely outside the realm of the opponent’s reaction. Rose just isn’t on the list of characters that can or should do that. If you get the chance, look up the total frames and compare between characters. You’ll notice right away the discrepancy between Rose’s fireball and most of the other casts.

that soul piede…and wtf that ex soul reflect o_O

now its been 2 times I’ve seen ex reflect completely stuff some people’s attack in 2012

  1. During locktest against a Vega
  2. Against the juri in the video thread
I know they were at random times but it still makes me wonder if they tweaked the move a little bit more than what they’ve already said in the last change log

What types of attacks?

  • Vega did a **Sky High Claw **(The one where he flies on a corner and hits you with his claw) and Rose did EX reflect and it beat Vega’s move clean. I think he got it 2 out of 3 tries

  • Juri in this video:
    http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/18984883
around 00:41:20 - 00:41:30 juri will use her taunt-counter against one of Rose’s soul spark and go up in the air and do neutral jump HK. Rose will do EX reflect and will beat Juri’s move clean.

I also noticed that Rose did a level 3 focus attack with the tip of her scarf when juri was in the corner but looking at the hitbox of the move it was probably normal…

Hey guys, I made this video to demonstrate some of the changes to Rose in
AE2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjiSxH9qe2M&feature=youtu.be
Enjoy!

Just to let you know, Rose could already do cr.HP from counterhit close mk in AE. In 2012, you don’t even need a counter hit anymore.
