I’m guessing like games that already have cross platform you will have to make a new profile on CFN. That way there would be no issue of same names on PSN and Steam. Or a little icon next to your name indicating if you are PSN or steam. Either way I can’t see them leaving out the ability for friends request cross plat. Why even have the service if you are going to limit the interaction.
For those who maybe don’t know, This gen sony doesn’t really consider PC a rival platform. Alot of games that Sony acquired exclusive rights for like No Mans Sky is also getting a PC release on the same day. In an interview with one of the developers he said Sony encouraged them to have a PC release ready rather then limit them to just the PS4. That could be because Sony has a ton of in house exclusive and perhaps the bill isn’t as steep when allowing the PC platform to exist. It could also be because Sony sold off its PC division that produced games like DC universe, planetside, H1Z1 and other PC first games I cant think of at the moment.
What is this hypothetical situation where you playing on PC has any bearing whatsoever on you playing 1 on 1 with friends in the real or online? If you have a PS4 compatible stick it doesn’t matter which rig you play it on locally.
Yeah, I’m not worried about stick or controller compatibility for PC version.
I’m more worried about how the PC version will turn out overall.
Cause really, I still get bad dreams of the launch of MKX over Steam…
When Capcom makes a game with PC in mind and doesn’t hire a company to port it all half assed they make some of the most well optimized games of all time such as DMC4 and RE5.
Steam also has a similar feature called Family Sharing.
If you have a game in your account, another person can also own this game without buying it if he is linked to you by Family Sharing but the other person needs your password to be able to link him to you
I disagree with the PC version being more portable. PS4 version by default is under 1 configuration across the board. PC requires different setups for that to be achieved.
That was a long time ago, they are on pretty bad streak these days. RE: Revelations 2, RE: HD Remasters and DMC4 SE (not 100% sure if these were ported in-house or by a 3rd party developer) were all poorly optimized, the later 2 still are. The pc spec recommendations seem kinda ridiculous as well, although they’re probably not final. I mean, a minimum of 6gb ram or a quad core for a fighting game looks overkill to me, especially in comparison to ps4 hardware.
DMC4SE is only slightly less godlike in terms of optimization and that’s probably because they figured it’s not 2008 anymore people probably got new stuff.
The others I can’t say one way or the other, no experience.
Depends, the slight improvements in graphics don’t justify a performence drop of approximately 75% imo. It didn’t realy effect me, but it screws the guys with rigs below my midrange setup, because it’s impossible to turn these gimmicky effects off. It’s comparable to RE HD Remaster that forces 1080p as an internal resolution which means that tweaking graphic options does squad for the games performence. People who met the minimum requirements were screwed, while better rigs would just smoke the game with brute force.
Anyway, i’m still positive because Sony is in on this. They certainly don’t want the pc crowd fucking up crossplay due to bad optimization.
I feel like PS4 over PC because don’t major tournaments insist on console versions?
That would be the biggest reason to me alone.
Plus, stability, not gonna get fucked up by OS updates or other software, etc…
Generally I don’t play many games anymore, just the same few fighters on my PS3 with friends these days, however half of my friends are on the PS4 now and don’t use/have PS3 anymore, and the rest are still happily playing PS3 every day and have no intention of upgrading.
I myself plan to get a PS4 one day if I manage to get one that’s on sale. I know most gaming happens on PC and thru Steam these days but I would buy a console just so I didn’t have to deal with PC gaming shit. I like my computer to not do games and my consoles to handle my games, but maybe i’m just old.
Of course it doesn’t locally. But I’m almost certain there isn’t going to be any sort of cross platform friend list or something. That would be unheard of
If you are looking for a ps4 for cheap, there are great deals all the time locally on craigslist.
As for the cross platform friends list I would be shocked if there isn’t one. One of the big things is uniting the community, why would they fracture it with separate list?
This is a good idea. I forgot about using Craigslist since I haven’t done it for anything in like 4 years. Probably could have saved selling my Xbone to get a PS4 that way.
I’m looking now and saw a PS4 for 200 bucks and an Xbox One for 150. The guy with the Xbox One also has 6 pretty new games including GTA and The Witcher. Might have to get that offer there.
Imo PS4 is a better choice than PC. Mostly due to tournament settings.
PS4 is generally easier to use than PC, and sometimes Steam can act up and cause some issues. Also, some sticks act up with certain PCs. The time it would take to download drivers and such could be considered a time consumer in local tournaments. PS4 is a more direct and simpler way of getting results, so I don’t think PC should be used in tournaments. I can see PC being more dominant for home use and training, but as far as mobility and simplicity; PS4 would be more of a benefit.
At the very least, you don’t need to update your PS4’s firmware every time you turn it on. Steam on the other hand, asks me to restart it for an update almost every day.
So what you’re saying is it takes 5-10 seconds to start up? I think the time saved on load times throughout the entire time you need the game makes it a good tradeoff.
