PS4 vs PC - Pros/Cons

Nice little post, but there seems to be a mistake in the OP:

How is that a pro in BOTH situations? Isn’t it supposed to be the PS4’s con? ;D

Not really since it’s recommended that, for professional presentation, you use a separate PC for game capture and stream control than the one playing the game.

That’s correct, but then it slowly becomes such a gray area it might as well not be listed at all, perhaps? In fact, I’d almost lean towards that. Both devices can stream for completely free, or go for a higher quality standard in exchange for extra cash.

Either way, I simply pointed out that in the comparison, we have something listed as a pro for both sides of the debate. Which feels like saying that both devices have their own HDDs or that they support HD resolution. I would assume that’s not the point of this thread.

It’s SF Vee, not SF Five

This may have been true several years ago, but now the technology has gotten good enough that you can build a PC that isn’t much larger than a console that you can bring and hook up through an HDMI.

Still, having to build it means it still requires more work to create than just buying a PS4 off the shelf. Getting Sony or the FGC to provide PS4’s is still much less work than asking them to build specialized PCs that are nearly the size of a PS4. Which then you still have to deal with an operating system and other hijinks like that.

Better off just having something Sony or community members can immediately provide with a 350 or less dollar purchase. Not to mention a PS4 will run other fighters at tournament standard whereas the PC only does you good for running SFV. Meaning the PCs get put away as soon as SFV matches are over.

Assembling a PC is a one time effort and frankly takes less than a couple hours once you have the parts. This isn’t something you have to do every week.

Seriously we do the same or more work doing things like dual modding sticks. I don’t think there is any issue building PCs.

This is nothing that doesn’t already happen with games like Killer Instinct or Anime games. Capcom games are ran on Xbox 360, MK+Anime on PS3/PS4, KI on Xbone, Smash on Gamecube/Wii, etc. we already mix and match consoles so what’s new about this?

Also you forget that KI is coming out with a PC version right before SFV which means if it is any good it actually works out better since you won’t need Xbone just for KI since now you can use PC for both KI and SFV. You could also use it for SF4 if you still run those tournaments. Also Rising Thunder is a PC game don’t forget. So there is at least 4 you can run on PC.

The other thing is if the differences between the two versions is minor it is perfectly possible to mix the PC and the PS4 since a PS4 stick will work on both systems. In fact the nice thing about PC is that you can plug just about any kind of stick into it and use it. So you simply bring enough PS4s to cover other games being played (which typically have smaller player bases)

USFIV, MKX, DoA5, KoFXIII, and Skullgirls are on PC. Blazblue the current version of Blazblue is gonna make it’s way there in January. Many current gen fighters have PC ports.

That’s a good point and seems like a common theme in the discussion. Either with PC or console, someone is doing more work, but the difference is whether the work/expenses has to be invested by the tournament staff or by the everyday tournament-goer.

When fighting game inputs are simplified enough that you don’t need to have such a thing as a personally preferred controller to play seriously, then that discussion can be laid to rest. But until then, if expanding the community is the goal, you want to reduce the price point required to go to your first tournament by as much as possible. Reducing the prep work the TO has to do serves a different set of priorities, however valid they may be.

Of course, there’s also corporate interests more prevalent now, which may color the interests of various people in a different light as well. I wonder how much of the community, TOs or otherwise, actually wanted to switch to PS4.

I mean, MLG and whatever other e-sport tournaments are run entirely on PC (which makes sense, since I think all of their games are on PC). We don’t hear those players constantly bitching about lack of PC uniformity, nor the organizers bitching about PC setup time (someone please correct me if I’m wrong on this).

Somehow they run absolutely massive tournaments with few issues. I don’t understand why the FGC just can’t possibly handle it, oh the humanity.

Also Sony’s bankrolling is important, but… PC manufacturer sponsors could contribute just as much money. I don’t see why that’s unreasonable.

In fairness it’s not 1:1 because fighting game tournaments are usually bigger on average. Stuff like RTS or League take longer to resolve a single match, and tend to be more invitational from what I’m aware of.

I got both PC and PS4 available and I’ll definitely go with PC.
Why? Because I got an amazing monitor for fighting games and I want to play the next beta phase with my stick.
Really bummed out by Capcom not including the Lab Zero drivers in the PS4 beta build.

I mean the game is more than playable with a pad but hell does the PS4 d-pad suck ass, and I was longing for my stick so much because of that.
Biggest plus for me is being able to use every controller I’ve got lying around here on pc and my badass monitor.

USFIV is basically done after 2016 at Evo and will most likely be relegated to side tourney status at other majors. All of those other current gen games mentioned are already side tourney status at Evo and most already are at regional majors as well.

The problem you’re going to run into is the other next gen games. Seeing how many problems people had with the PC port of MKX I doubt tournament players will trust it for tournaments. GGXrd doesn’t have a PC port and I’m not sure if Tekken 7 is going to get one. Those are all going to be big tournament games that are staples on Sony systems at this point.

Smaller games (including KI) make sense for running on PC as probably more of the smaller games have been deemed worthy for tournaments. Anything next gen is more simple to run on PS4. If MKX’s PC port isn’t considered sound for tournaments that pretty much solidifies PS4 will stay standard for next gen at tourneys. Next gen tourneys are soon going to take priority over last gen games at tournaments and none of the real big games seem to be preferred for PC yet. If another next gen game gets a shitty PC port then PC is really hurting.

Either way, I’m sure Sony is going to make sure PS4 is the standard. Once they push money into the issue that’s pretty much it for any Sony/Capcom sponsored event. Even with the possibilities of PC, Sony will most likely manhandle the situation regardless.

The major e-sports events for RTS, League and FPS are invitational while Fighting game tourneys are open sign up. These events also charge speculators.

Not sure if it’s been said probably has, but the PC version offers no required stick upgrade. Your 360 sticks will work just fine, I’m gonna grab it on PC first and get it on PS4 at a later date after a price drop most likely, I like having Street Fighter on every system.

Misinformation’s gotta be called out. That’s all I was doing.

Am I the only one who actually like DS4 d-pad? For me it’s far superior than the DS3 one. DS3 d-pad is just not so precise and make my thumb hurts in a few minutes, whereas I can play with DS4 for hours straight comfortably. The buttons feel better quality and slightly stiffer, and that extended arrows towards the center make the d-pad more comfortable to use imo.

Anyway, Hori V4 Kai is already my default controller.

I’m a pad player and I’m with you on the DS4 d-pad. DS4 is my pad of choice when I play games. I put it on par with the DS2.

ok

I think the DS4 is actually pretty good. Most people that complain aren’t pad players to begin with so their veiwpoint is rather moot.

Well I’m a Sanwa stick guy and only liked Sega Genesis/Saturn pads so I’m sure I’d think the DS4 is trash. Only DS I kinda liked was the DS1.

I don’t know how people deal with those analog triggers. They turn me off just looking at them.
