PS3 SF4 owners PLEASE READ THIS! (NAT settings in post 21)

I installed the SF4 to HD when first thing when i got the game. I already had my ps3 set to Nat type 2, but I dont remember how i got it there. Ive just opened the ports on my Linksys router today but ive Played plenty of PS3 games online with little or no problems. So My questions are…

  1. How much will the opened ports help my online experience/connection.

  2. How do you set up your ps3 for DMZ, and is it a good idea to be open for everything?

  3. What is the UPnP setting and should it be available or off? Mine is availible and has been for at least a year now.

Any helpful info would be appreciated Thanks

Interested in any way of getting that UPNP setting on.

Able to play and host online but I’m on NAT2 with UPNP disabled.

Here’s a bit of info for any Speed Stream 4200 users out there. This particular router played hard ball when I first tried getting NAT2 going on the PS3.

Enter the configuration page by typing in the IP address of the router in your browser. Usually 192.168.254.254 or 192.168.1.1

Login as Admin (password usually Admin)

Navigate to the NAT configuration page as follows: Setup -> NAT/NAPT

click the Yes Radio button to Enable the option “NAT Only Enbabled Private (LAN) Ip Address”

And enter the IP address of your PS3 in the provided dialog box.

Would be advisable to use a static IP address for the PS3 as recommended in Post 21

Recheck the network settings on your PS3 and voila, you should be on NAT2

As a side note, tried and this works to get NAT 2 even without port forwarding or DMZ on this particular router.

Caveat, you can make this change on the fly without rebooting the router. I switch back and forth as it disables internet access for the rest of the IPs on the network. Great if you’ve got a little brother who would be torrenting and wreaking havoc on your connection, causing you to lag and lose BP.

I treid one of the suggestions on the 1st page, but I erased my data. Could somebody specifially tell me how to do this install please?

I still dont know what it does but on your PS menu under settiongs, you go through network settings, then internet connection settings and it will be an option through that set up.

can all regions of SFIV play online worldwide? im still waiting for my copy as everywhere is sold out and my ordered copy is on backorder till april

installing the game does not affect my savegame, bp, trophies etc?

yea there’s still tons of people online that havent installed yet

for me it’s a good way to tell if they’ll play scrubby or not, about everybody good I played online has it installed

err, just got home and im about to install the game but it seem I dont have the option… anyone know if the install option is region based? either that or Im at the wrong place trying to install it… help?

Hi, SF4 is my first ps3 game, and my first game for PSN. I know how to message people after the game is done and the BP are calculated, but I don’t know how to reply to messages or message people when I am not in that particular screen.

Help?

pluto - press the home button on your controller (on the sixaxis its thebutton with the PS logo) and scroll over to the far right - that is your inbox where you can read/create messages etc. It sits above your friends list

thanks for the answer.

WTF… im still stuck on NAT 3 after following every step.

whats worse is that now i cant join ranked or player matches… whenever i search, i ALWAYS get “no sessions available. please try again”… any suggestions?

To put it simply :

Load times : 20 s or more
Load times : 8 s

Install the game on your PS3’s hard drive. It takes 15 min and 2,1 GB. Go to
1 OPTIONS
2 SYSTEM
3 INSTALL

It’s easy. Here a photo of my custumized SF IV cover :

good post, another tip

if you use a router do the following:

allow pings to your router so you can get an accurate latency reading

set your playstation as priority 1 if your router allows you to do this

good post shin blanka

ew: DMZ PnP

I would not recommend setting your ps3 as dmz host. at least not if you use your network for anything else that is important.

as for Upnp you should be able to set your router to recognize this setting. give your ps3 an assigned local ip address by registering the mac address this allows you to make sure the ps3 gets 1st priority on latency. also it helps to use a gigabit router and switch and connect directly to ps3 this way you get a full 1000mbps lan connection instead of the usual 100

okay,i ran the internet connection test with my ps3 and it already says i have type 2 NAT so am i set? i never tinkered with the settings or anything ever with my ps3 and all i ever did was plug it into my router when i first got it.

No it doesn’t sir!

how do i install sf4?

am i being thick or can sum1 tell me how i install sf4?

Bell PS3//Sympatico SpeedStream4200 // Linksys WRT14XX

Greetings All,

Three hours of meandering through posts on all kinds of sites including SRK before I finally went NAT2 and took the plunge into Network Battle World on SF IV.

The title reads my setup; Sympatico SpeedStream4200 // Linksys WRT14XX

Here is what made it work for me:

1.) Static IP assignment to PS3
EATING
2.) Single Port Forwarding
EATING
3.) Setting MTU @ 1490 (PS3 & Router)
EATING
4.) Setting DHCP connections via PPoE

~.) KICKING SOME ASS ONLINE

Thanks to posters accross multiple forums and especially SRK folks! :clapdos:

:3p:

Can you explain why you set MTU to 1490? It just seems like something you wouldn’t really want to mess with.
