Ugh, Well i sent in my complaint to Sony. Spending $500 on a system is not what i wanted to pay fo. I mostly bought it for Street Fighter 4 only and to make a joy stick to have that old school feel of playing in a arcade since they are all gone.
Sony users! That’ll teach you to use a PS3 without a Sony licensed product! Truth be told, we got the good end of it. Think of TAC themselves… Or Sumoto. They now have to COMPLETELY remove this line from their line up! Meaning spending thousands of R&D money, and manufacturing is now wasted! All we lost was a measly $50. TAC and SUMOTO, R.I.P.
^ Yeah, sucks for them. If they don’t redesign them then they’ll probably have to advertise it as USB/PC only.

If I had one of these I would send them a very casual e-mail mentioning that my converter stopped working after the update. I wouldn’t even link to this thread or make it sound like it’s an epidemic.

Just for the record, I agree with d0c_zaius in regards to it not being Sony’s responsibility. In fact, when you updated, you agreed to something that says that Sony has no responsibility. It’s the user agreement that shows up every time you update.
However, I happen to own a TAC. And I feel betrayed in regards to Sony’s response to this problem. Rather than stating that they are looking into this problem and that they will try and fix it as soon as possible, they reply with links to their 3rd party peripherals policy. This indicates that they have no intention of fixing this. Which would imply that Sony is purposefully preventing me from using my arcade stick with the PS3. I refuse to buy a new peripheral every time Sony decides that their console’s compatibility with 3rd party peripherals should be downgraded.
My choice: Screw it. I have a 360. I’ll spend the extra money to buy the only converter that works with the 360 and buy a used copy of the game at Gamestop. I used to pick up the PS3 version of any multi-console game, now I think I’ll do the opposite of that.
Once again, I understand that it’s not Sony’s problem if my 3rd party stuff doesn’t work. But it’s also true that I FEEL like Sony is flipping me off by not addressing a problem that I have with their console.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. While there are a lot of posts on the internet of people saying their systems are “bricked” it is the converter that is causing it. Maybe that’ll steer Sony away from updating the firmware, maybe not. I need assurance that my converter will LAST on a PS3 and I won’t have to buy a new one with every other firmware update. I’ve had three in the process of having my PS3. I am not getting a new one. I’m anticipating with the next firmware update this issue and the other ones (like with video playback) will be resolved.
With you there. I considered trying out the hais, but then I think that maybe it’ll brick on the next update as well. Out even more money. So f*ck it, I’ll just update the damn stick.

i have yet to get a response with those guys, so i’ve pretty much given up on them.
Why? That’s the single console that doesn’t WANT you to use standard usb devices,. The one adapter that does work lags like a son of a bitch. I can still use my Pelican adapter and not worry.
just to clarify, can you still use the pelican with the new PS3 update?, i havent updated my ps3 yet, im afraid that my pelican might not work with it.

Pelican adaptor owner here. Everything seems a-ok to me on version 2.70. Hopefully it stays that way in the future…

Does anybody know when the 2.8 firmware for ps3 is going to be released?? Doubt it will let me use my ps2 adapter again but what the hell I got to keep the hope alive
I’m hoping too. So for now i’m just keeping up with the news and waiting. 
Maybe fw 2.71 comes first.
