(Yeah, I’ll wait until all the supposed evidence is released to make a final judgment about this. At the very least it seems egregiously clear that the prosecutor handed this off to this special jury just so that people wouldn’t lynch his ass for stating straight out that he planned to never indict the police officer in the first place with the evidence he had. While I can’t argue against that logic on a basic self-preservation level, it comes across as cowardly at best and all it does is further people’s suspicions of the supposed “justice system” and of the police.)
I’d surprised if anyone actually expected things to go differently, honestly, given all of the preparation the state did for this and given they basically goaded bad elements to do their worst and given the pleading of Michael Brown’s parents. Of course, the police only make themselves look even worse by then not bothering to protect anyone but themselves and coming off as overly militarized again. Not that the police aren’t humans worthy of protecting themselves, but stuff like this, even if it’s idiot protestors from the community itself (and more than they aren’t from the community at all) damaging community property, just makes the (Ferguson) police look even worse than they already did. Granted, both sides look pretty bad at this point given…well, the basic nature of humanity, but given the police have riot gear & armor vehicles and are there in hundreds…there’s really no excuse for not bothering to protect anyone but themselves save for pure selfishness.
Oh well. All this suffering is great for me given I enjoy schadenfreude and foresaw this, so I chose to get my exercise in early today to avoid any protest and/or police stupidity here.
This is also, unfortunately, probably the best possible outcome anyway since now enough people might be pissed off enough to try to actively change something and may even be able to change something for the better (for once). This even if racism and other bigotry are obviously never going to die until all of humanity does. I don’t entirely agree with debs, especially since if you’re advocating violence-based protesting than you might as well just start advocating assassination and other killing to some degree, but I can see where he’s coming from.

If it wasn’t/isn’t split along the lines of the illusion that is “race”, then I wouldn’t be surprised if they took so long debating to try to get to a unanimous decision just to cover their asses. They only needed nine people after all, there are only three black on the jury as opposed to nine white and they took an entire two days apparently, which is perhaps due to all the evidence, but I’m skeptical as with all things. We’ll see.

The idea of “peaceful protest”.is far to ingrained. Even MLK started questioning the validity of peaceful protest.
