The number of shots shouldn’t be a surprise. 6 went into him so unless he was 100 percent accurate of course more were fired.
That’s true. Not sure why I didn’t think of that. Was pretty tired when I posted. Also not sure why my post was flagged off topic when it was relevant to the topic lol.

i agree functionally the camo is kind of pointless, so all the more reason for them not to have it. uniforms are meant to identify police as police so i see no reason for them to dress like they are in the military. ill be more on edge seeing law enforcement in camo even if it doesn’t blend into the surroundings. i can also see it making it a bit more difficult getting id for a particular officer if hes wearing a military uniform + helmet and gasmask, and many of the media accounts of the first days of ferguson had police seeming extremely reluctant to identify themselves.
I guess I should have been more clear in why I don’t care much about camo. I’m former military, currently in security and the wife went to some law enforcement college program (she takes the exam for her local police station next month.) What I know about organized law enforcement is that there are a couple levels to it. The first is regular uniformed law enforcement. The second is disguised law enforcement. Finally there is optimized law enforcement. There are more, but this is the really simple version. Though the officers have on camo, they are still under the uniformed law enforcement category. Things aren’t actually that escalated yet. They are making a statement with the uniforms. Its kinda like when a cat puffs up to look bigger. They are saying, “hey, we look militarized, so don’t make us act militarized.” I know if seems excessive, but this is actually good for the people. They are trying to say back down before shit gets real, but without saying it (they could easily have received the proper gear to slaughter civilians with the fewest casualties to their force and gone out to use it first.) I know they have the weapons, which is why I agreed with your statement on the weapons, but the camo doesn’t make them anymore what they are. With that point, my concern becomes elevated when I imagine that if the people fight back or if officers feel endangered, they may want to become more difficult to target, therefor functionally blending in with the environment (imagine officers in street clothes, others in building colored cam on roof tops with snipers, full riot gear not straight black but tarmac colored, blindingly shiny ponchos the match concrete when the sun doesn’t hit it and when the sun does you can’t look that direction and there’s more.) If the police were actively avoiding targeting, that means that their safety is being threatened and instead of a few bad cops being ready to open fire, all cops will be ready to protect themselves and their fellow officers (including the scumbags in their force.) If all officers convert to camo I wouldn’t really care, cops have gone from blues to blacks and their leaders have gone from wearing similar uniforms with higher rank to wearing different colored uniforms from the lower leveled officers. Things change and we deal/adapt. What hasn’t changed is the fact that ready for war isn’t looking like a soldier, its ready for war…
I appreciate your insight, but I’m not convinced about the bolded part. A show of force in any context has the possibility of escalating a situation as well as quelling it, especially in this particular context where agitation with the police essentially started this mess.
And if you’re former military, I would assume you are relatively comfortable around people in camo that are armed, but I don’t think most people are. It very much gives the impression of being in occupied territory, or that things are unstable.
Ah, I see,
Apologies, I’m not quite the linguist when I’m not trying or not in class. Its obviously not good for the people, I was just trying to get across that they could skip the threats and go straight to business. Please take into consideration that the officers in plain blues have done more to the occupy wall street protesters than these camouflage wearing officers. I’m not trying to convince you at this point, I simply understand that my wording is weak on such a sensitive subject.

Why is it that a show on Comedy Central gets it…but “real” news shows dont?
The candles and flowers that were laid in the scene where Brown was killed were crushed by police cars…disgusting.
Arrests and unwarranted tickets for profit, legal misconduct, and systematic racism. They’re just mad that their fun has ended and they’re now being put under microscope. So they’re acting like belligerent children that just got their candy taken away from them.
Unfortunately, many people don’t realize that the issue isn’t just about Michael Brown, but the overall mistreatment and profiling blacks and other minorities have received by law enforcement over the years. The pot simply boiled over after this incident.
Shameful acts, like how police and FBI recently detained this guy for 6 hours because he “fit a description” of a tall, bald black man who robbed a bank when he was attending an Emmy event and had nothing on his person. They didn’t even have the decency to apologize. Guilty before proven innocent.

"Why, at 11:59pm (approximately 6 hours later), was the video footage reviewed only after my request to the Lead Detective for the Beverly Hills Police Department and an FBI Agent to do so, and, after being directly accused by another FBI Special Agent of ’ … going in and out of the bank several times complaining about the ATM Machine to cause a distraction,’ " Belk wrote. “Thereby aiding in the armed robbery attempt of a bank that I never heard of, or ever been to; and within 10 minutes … 10 MINUTES, my lawyer was told that I was being release because it was clear that it was not me.”
^^And while they had that guy detained, the REAL robber got away with the loot!

That is a satire site, it’s fake; although admittedly, it sounds entirely possible given the antics of zimmerman.

I have a court date due to unwarranted ticket after being stopped for no good reason. This is really tame compared to all the things cops/local govt have done to me and my family, but it is recent and addressed in your post so I brought it up. If I was black would I attribute these types of unfair everyday experiences to racism? Have you or any of your friends been permanently disfigured from unwarranted encounters with police? If your answer is no (or yes, hahaa), prepare for me to ignore all cries of racism …and all those who are jumping to conclusions due to the fact no evidence is available because a federal investigation is underway.
…and please dont anybody be daft and say I am making excuses for cops here

Yes, other races get stopped and mistreated, duly noted, but statistically there is a disproportionate figure when it comes to minorities. Period.
The residents in the area have long felt it, and this incident is just the impetus. I would link you the long list of the disparities that have happened just in Ferguson alone, but it’s been noted many times already (and in that Daily Show link).

I was skimming the entire website for it to say it was satire and didn’t find shit. I hate sites like this.
I’d rather move to here. It seems that black people are not automatically executed on sight by cops.

Is it possible that a portion of cops are generally just powertripping animals with no respect for anyone, and that poor crime-ridden areas that cops are typically called to are primarily inhabited by minorities? It would then follow that the disproportionate number of minorities are harassed due to this simple reason without the need to invoke any direct racism. Is this possible? Is there evidence against this hypothesis here? Please dont point me to another entertaining daily show clip full of 1/2truths and gorilladust.
Are we so sure of what is going on we get to pretend we know what happened automatically? Or do we pretend to automatically know because if we are proven wrong we can just lazily fall back onto the soft comfortable claim of institutionalized racism.
Fat chance. DAT my ass…would get me executed.
