Damn, hacked Brawl is crazy stuff. No tripping sounds good, not sure about the other stuff though.
T3kken!
Plz am Add 4 the Tekkens to ++ Evo 2009 Lineupeds. k, thx, bye.
For SC4, I’m going to suggest the following for Evo
Evo should use whatever rules are used in Regional Qualifiers for their nationals, and everyone else STFU about it afterwards and accept it.
I think SC4 community can determine what it best for SC4.
Same should apply for any other non-Capcom, non-SNK game at Evo (cause SNK lacks an intelligent community)
Bye!
Off topic for a moment, I think EVO should give SC a second or third chance. The only way it could screw up is the ruleset or the banning of certain characters. Now I agree that banning Yoda and Algol is probably tha smartest move the SC community mad so far, and banning the bonus characters was wise since they’re pretty much USELESS!
But here’s what I dont get. Why would Toronto ban Vader and Apprentice?Sure, they can be cheap at times but not to the point that it breaks the game and or makes is less fun. I dont get that at all.
P.S.I support All-Items Brawl. There’s no point in participating in a tournament when you’re not having fun!
Pablo: Something I’ve heard is that with extra hitstun, Meta Knight becomes ST Akuma-level broken. Gives him easy death combos or something.
I also remember hearing that the wavedashing hack didn’t quite work, because if you tried to wavedash with ROB it would freeze the game. Not sure if this was fixed or not.
But let’s say Nationals bans Algol/Yoda and Evo goes with that. That still leaves issues:
-
Would Toronto complain because Apprentice & Vader are still legal? Apprentice, in particular, is a great counter-pick to Astaroth and very frustrating to fight since you pretty much can’t throw him. He presents some of the same problems as Algol & Yoda re: limiting options & creativity.
-
Would Michigan and Norcal and various old-school players complain about characters being banned at all? They may expect Evo to do for SC what it did for Brawl last year.
This community is rather divided right now, not as badly as Smash but badly enough to make things tricky for the Evo staff.
Olimar and MK do get retarded shit.
But the DI in Brawl is there in retarded amounts too so it negates.
And the ROB thing was fixed.
obviously playing a hacked version of a game wont be happening at evo.
I think EVO 09 is a very important year for evo.
Hopefully the economy would probably be a little better so sponsors would be easier to get. Now I know that the fact that this year’s evo didnt have sponsors was becayse the sponsors want new blood as games.
EVO X was a great close for a generation and this could open a new one.
I think that the smartest Lineup for next year would be (even though it hurts my heart to put games I love off the list)
MK VS DC
Street Fighter 4
Tekken 6.1
Smash Bros Brawl
HD Remix
Blazblue or GG
Now, a lot of people wouldnt like the god old generation games out, so I would suggest that as main events we could probably have a tiebraker event of wc vs ec on Marvel (score is 1-1 now) and probably an SF4 5 on 5 I guess. It all depends on what happens with the sponsors
However, it would be nice if evo could host more than 6 games.
Everyone needs to get Tekken 6 off the list. It won’t be released until late fall, and if EVO is gonna be in August again it won’t be released in time. They definitely won’t use DR again after last years turnout.
SF4 & STHD - Obvious choices. Newest Street Fighter games.
SC4 - Newest 3D game out, and has a pretty dedicated scene. There is some drama concerning the character banning (Star Wars, Algol, etc.) but this shouldn’t be enough to stop an entire community. I believe the community will show up full force regardless of the rules. This should be the replacement for Tekken.
TvC - I don’t see this as a complete successor to Marvel, but I think it’s a good replacement. Unless the game is completely shunned like CFJ, it should be accepted into Evo, at least this year.
Blazblue/GG - I don’t know if BB will be out in time, but I can only assume that one of these games will make the lineup.
The last game - 3s could have a final run (3s teams would be a great one, imo), and I really don’t see Marvel going away anytime soon. The only thing that would ever stop Marvel are the Dreamcasts. Brawl is also another option.
IMO, this lineup is the most likely.
EDIT - KOF XII is also another game to be considered as well.
Fair enough points, but a decision has to be made. Just sticking your heads in the sand isn’t going to do anything. When there’s a divided community- I’d recommend this as Evo Policy
-
If there’s a competent community out there (SC4, GG, Tekken, VF)- use their community rules that are standard.
-
If there isn’t (anything SNK, Brawl)- Evo decides
The question is defining a competent community. I think 8WR is a competent community.
If they can hold tournaments on their own, then it’s a competent community.
Smash players seriously need to cut it the fuck out. I don’t like brawl myself, but if you don’t like the game, go back and fucking play melee.
Obvious choices:
Street fighter 4
SFIIDHr
Smash.
Sc4
T5dr
Turnouts are what count.
What else is there? I mean, considering that tvc isn’t getting a U.S. release, will it make sense to replace marvel with it? I doubt it will get as many players, maybe as a big a turnout as a GG game. if it was getting a worldwide release, I’d easily say just drop marvel.
Will BB be out by then? Gotta remember, that evo is console tournament. Bring back GGAC maybe?
I don’t see any room for Cvs2 or 3S honestly.
We play brawl for the lulz/money.
We play melee for the sex.
You never get tired of sex, but people don’t want to work for it and they want the easy money that brawl represents.
Sex with who, each other? Ain’t no swagger coming from the smash side of the room, real talk.

Smash players need to stop saying “we only play it for the money” and whining that Melee is dying because of their own actions. If you want to revive the Melee scene then fucking revive it, you hypocritical pieces of shit.
My projected lineup for Evo 2k9:
Street Fighter IV
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
Soulcalibur IV
Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection
BlazBlue
There are others that’re up in the air.
Does evo need people like this THAT badly?
(yeah I quoted myself, I’m pigging-backing off of my own thoughts haha)
I was wondering: Does Evo’s long-standing co-affiliation with Tekken Zaibatsu in any way obligate them into specifically having a Tekken game there? I don’t know how formal or official that link is.
We can’t revive it since some people want bigger turnouts, and Brawl represents that.
cough cough.
