Projected EVO 2009 game lineup?

T6 won’t have a console release in time for Evo2k9, so unless people want to play T5DR again I don’t see Tekken making into the Evo2k9 line-up.

thats expected for anygame that gets removed. the question is, why do we want to keep deliberately sticking with the past? no one is telling marvel only players to switch up to tvc. im sure they can make mvc2 survive on their own, and even as side tourneys. cuz lets be honest, most of the marvel hype these days rides on side events. and marvel this year at evo wasn’t very exciting.

keep in mind too, that mvc2 made a lot of old marvel players lose interest back in the day. i was hardcore marvel until mvc2 became a bs fest in late 2001. and i know I am not the only one. the switch can bring back a lot of old faces, more than likely new faces, and maybe lose some players. but this is what happens with every game that gets replaced by a new game.

if evo staff kept worrying about pissing off the core group of players for each game, evo would be sitting at like a 20+ game roster every year to keep the core groups happy. Just not happening.

Marvel players will survive. They have plenty of places to still hold hype tournaments. No Marvel at Evo won’t kill Marvel. It just won’t be at Evo. There’ll be some bitching but it won’t be quite as dramatic since it’s already confirmed that any game you liked last year at Evo won’t be at Evo this year. 2009 is not the year to go to Evo expecting to enter CVS2, 3S and Marvel. You’ll be playing entirely different games with maybe a small chance of one of the old Evo games being there still.

I have a good feeling that all the old games will be replaced the way things are sounding. You can throw in 3S one more year just to make me happy though. I don’t feel so bad about 3S getting kicked since it’s obvious that Evo is trying to move on now that we are in an HD era of fighting games and we really can’t survive playing old ass games on big clunky CRT TV’s. This is the fighting game renaissance and we owe it to ourselves to move on and play this new shit. It’s not like there’s only 2 or 3 new fighting games coming out. There’s so many fighting games coming out Battle Arena Toshinden is getting a sequel and Castlevania now has a fighting game.

If Season’s Beatings and Final Round are any indication…Marvel players will come out in droves for big regional tournaments and still create Evo worthy hype at those events.

I can’t argue with that logic, just not at EVO unfortunately

good thing that mvc2 is the NEW age of heroes then.

Dreamcasts are a goddamned travesty though. I’m watching footage from Ohio and blue screens pop out like titties at spring break. But the game is still damned exciting. You watch other games and they’re excited for people winning typically. Marvel is maybe too fast but it’s pretty damned breathtakingly actionpacked.

I don’t know how you’d replace the Awesome factor of Marvel with something like TvC. =\

Ehh, I really think we have at least one more year out of Marvel and 3s before they should get the boot. That said, I think THIS should be the lineup

SFIV
STHD
MVC2/TVC
3s/SSBB
GGAC
SCIV/VF5R

I too would prefer Melee over Brawl, but I wouldn’t miss it if it were gone either way.

SF4, THD, and TvC are the main 3.

Then the other three are questionable, they could stick to the old ways with SF3, MvC2, CvS2, or a KOF. They might do Tekken 6 or maybe SCIV if it is still going to be popular by then.

Brawl might be in it, I just hope they make it a GOOD tournament this time.

CVS2
SF4
3S
MVC2
ST or HD REMIX

You must be new here. Anything after world warrior is considered new in these parts.

… does this mean he was born after World Warrior? (rimshot)

I definately would enjoy seeing more team tournaments.

Singles:
SF4
HDRemix (rebalanced mode)
BlazBlue

3on3:
Tekken 5: DR
3S

Doubles:
Melee

Sorry I don’t know anything cause am kind of new why was Guilty Gear taken out?

Definite:
SF4
SF2 HD remix
Smash

legitimate contenders:
marvel
3rd strike
cvs2

maybies:
tvc
blazblu
tekken

I honestly don’t know whether Brawl would be a good idea, as there is more controversy than ever with the rules now. Among the issues:

  • Some tournaments have begun banning Meta Knight.

  • Someone learned how to remove tripping via a Gameshark-type device, so now people are wanting to make a hack the official tournament version.

  • After the no-tripping hack proved successful, people have come up with more hacks to add L-canceling, wavedashing, longer hitstun, etc. Much of the community has always wished this game were Melee 2.0, and now they might be able to make that a reality.

As such, I think Evo is going to have a very hard time if they try to run Brawl again. Being a major tournament with sponsors, I don’t think they could use hacks, and these seem to have a great deal of support within the Smash community. Plain and simple, a lot of people are going to be unhappy no matter what they end up doing, especially since Melee is a no-no.

SC4 has some similar though lesser issues. Mainly, players are divided on whether to ban Algol and/or Yoda. It appears that the majority of tournaments (including SC4 Nationals) will ban both, but there are places like Michigan and Norcal which don’t ban either. These bans are geared more toward the pro gaming leagues; the players themselves will acknowledge that Algol & Yoda are not “broken” in any conventional sense, but they would make the game look bad to the MLG target audience. Evo would have another big decision here if they were to choose this game.

Call me a purist but I think that if they use HD remix for super turbo that would be a shame. Granted it’s the latest version but the changes made to the characters change everything. I guess they’re trying to attract a new audience with the rebalancing and dumbing down of certain moves so that they are easier to execute. They need to go back to playing the Grand Master Challenge version of Super Turbo on Dreamcast.

I don’t think the dumbing down of certain moves affects the game as the top players can do them easy and am sure most people want to see and play new games.

Also, while I’m at it, my ideal Evo lineup would be as follows:

SF4
HD Remix
TvC
SC4
Accent Core
KOF12 if available, 3s Teams if not

Why is Melee a no-no?

“Out with the old, in with the new” - MrWizard

Plus Melee wasn’t exactly successful among the Evo crowd anyway. Items-on Brawl was the exact opposite in that sense - the crowd enjoyed it but the turnout was weak.

EDIT: Man, SC4 community continues to become a bigger clusterfuck. Toronto (probably the 2nd strongest scene in North America) has now banned all Star Wars characters. Yes, even Apprentice & Vader, whom NOBODY else wants to ban. Add in Algol, and this means 4 out of the 5 new characters in SC4 are banned there.

At this rate, I really wonder if it will even get into Evo.

Couldnt be anymore wrong. The community right now is divided around 4 things.

MK should be banned?
Standing infinites should be banned?
Melee or Brawl?
Brawl or Brawl+?

Normal Brawl Supporters : If you want L-cancel, just play Melee.
Melee Supporters : If you want to play a good game instead of a piece of crap just play Melee.
Brawl+(Hacked) Supporters : But…but…
