yeah 3s 3-man teams is godlike, i mean, yeah, theres bound to be chuns winning, but mad people still play it and SF4.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I get the impression that much of the Evo staff hates the team format (definitely Sirlin, at least). They only used it for GG to save money.
Multiple staff members have indicated that 3s is done at Evo, for better or worse. Besides being such a boring singles game, it’s old and that doesn’t help them get sponsors. And until they make the event longer than 3 days, I think we’re going to be stuck with the 6-game lineup.

Meh…I guess I’m not as sad about it since I already got to experience 3 years worth of it at Evo. Playing at Evo is definitely on another level even than playing like a regular major. Where you just know you’re going to be playing against someone good at some point from somewhere you might never even have heard of. You just know there’s good competition from all parts of the world there and it makes it quite an experience. I guess 3S not being on the big screen would be a bummer but I’m sure there’ll definitely be a hype side tourney for it considering it’s not an official game. The only 2 official games I’ll be entering at Evo other than 3S are HD Remix and SFIV. Tekken 6 unfortunatley is coming out at too shitty of a time to be a real candidate for Evo.
Yeah after all that’s been said and Evo’s sudden push towards getting out in the spotlight it really has to keep itself from looking old and 3S ultimately isn’t going to do much more but give it that old school look. The look that has the Halo kids wondering WTF we’re doing still playing 10 year old games. 3S looks nice but it’s obvious it was made a long time ago and if they’re trying to pull sponsors and new players I totally understand why 3S and other games would get the boot way earlier than initially anticipated. Evo’s moving in a radically different direction and trying to differentiate itself from being “that SF tournament for the 7 Eleven guys”.
But there’s another big question. Sure SFIV and SFHD are pretty much in for Evo… but which system is going to be the “standard?”
BYOAC is gonna be a little extra tough on the players if you need two different sticks. Unless there’s going to be adaptors available for general use?
PS3 or XBox 360?
PS3. Converters for Xbox 360 are a bitch, and you would also have to worry about how many 360s would survive the tournament without RRODing from heat, or from the smell of “hardcore gamers”
sc4 is a given i think, the only question is what characters are going to be allowed or not (vader/algol/yoda). its going to be a great international contest since historically no country has really dominated the series.

I mean, did smashboards ever actually try hosting tournaments with items? I mean, even with items on, it’s not like some shitty player is going to ride a hot streak into the finals, the best payers are going to win, and that’s it, really.

And what’s really been there to take its place? honestly, ST has always been an exception to the rule. it’s the godfather of fg’s and it has a huge history with evo and its precursors. I’m not even really disagreeing about it, game shoulda died a long time ago. But realistically, there was nothing popular enough, to take its place. Nothing was coming out. and dont forget, marvel and the other capcom games are coming around the decade mark themselves

TvC should in NO WAY replace an established, hypefest game like Marvel.
That said, I’m surprised no one’s mentioned how cheap it is to get a PSX–GC convertor. They’re like $8. As long as TvC support GC controllers (I thought I read it will) controllers should not be a big problem for players.

Yet TvC seems much more like a retro thing. The game seems to be closer to MSF than to MvC2. I hope it will own and hopefully be nearly as popular as MvC2, ut my oint is that Evo shouldn’t be put any crap because it’s new. It should put new games becase they are good and popular. I believe unless TvC cmes owning SF4 in popularity, it should be a side tourney to see how things go, whle keeping MvC2 so Evo doesn’t get boring hype-wise. Maybe Evo can actually be responsible for a transition for the MvC2 community, that will be there for Marvel, towards also playing or only playing TvC.
I hope to make this my first Evo, and it would be a shame if the hype isn’t there. MvC2’s entertaining factor is too huge.

marvel gets really boring at time, as a matter of fact i had a way better time watching Brawl finals, which is a crap new game in everyones opinion, yet its at evo
the only thing i see stoping TvC is the fact that its an import and youd need an imported wii to play
