Since these are part of the first or prototype batch, I would suggest a fun, free SRK, lottery-type raffle for a right to buy one. That way is fair and random instead of a case for the quickest fingers.
Of course, to prevent possible fraud (ppl with multiple ID’s) either some sort of IP tracking or ban of new accounts/'09’ers will have to be in place (sorry noobs). Anyways, just a thought.
I would love to do something like that but I just don’t have the time. I’m going straight to the shop after work tonight to start finishing this set and preparing for the next. I have a few people that I’m going to ask first cause they have been here from the beginning and or helped out in some way. I don’t know if I should open a 4 sale thread before there even finished cause they might be all spoken for I guess I’ll just have to make more to keep people happy
I’ll probably get condemed from others in this thread for saying this, but personally, I would still do a small trial run with consumers before “opening the doors”. With something unique like you are offering I do not see you “missing the boat” or opportunity to sell many of these. One thing I have noticed from other sellers is that they push a product out the door to find there are some circumstances beyond their control that they could not test and verify…resulting in some neagtivity towards products that could have easily been avoided with a little more patients.
Kronck - Good advice thank you and I do plan to do a small batches this time around for just that reason. I want to only make small batches at a time and sell them off as I go and not take any pre orders so I don’t get flooded out. I have a feeling it’s going to be crazy no matter what I do but there’s only one way to find out. Go easy on my guys lol
Halvie Maybe I’ll have to get my hands on one first to be sure. Anyway that wont be for a little while down the road. Right now I just want to focus on what I have here and now.
This is kind of old news at this point but I opend my Trading outlet today maybe a bit early but I’d say it was a success so far. We’ll see ho it pans out. I’ll update thge main post with the info but here’s the link
the bigger better brother! It keeps getting better and better VOLTECH ! … i wish i could have gotten in on the first run, I def. want to use this case for my first custom.
Here’s the link to my new trading post VOLTECH Arcade Sticks
They already sold out by the time I got home from work. I posted just before I left on Friday!
I still plan to use this thread to post pics of the build progress and any changes made.
Anyway here are few updates while I wait for the clear coat to dry! (Pics coming soon)
I’m getting some help from my Dad who’s going to cut out the blanks and my Uncle who’s offered to help out in his spare time. (He does piano repair and finishing)
I’m going to add a few new button layout templates to my project. So by popular demand and my own. I’ll be offering along with my universal layout the Blast City and Vewlix hole patterns as seen here (Blast City)and here (Viewlix) (thanks again Slagcoin) I’m going to drill the templates with 8 button holes and offer the 6 and 7 button hole patterns by request since it’s as easy as not cutting the hole in the plexi top sheet. They will be 30mm and I will include the notches for the snap in buttons just like I’m using now. The cool thing is that they will be interchangeable with my current case design so you can swap them out and upgrade to a different layout
Can’t wait to get all this stuff together. I have a few questions for Voltech however. (Or anyone else that can answer them)
I noticed on the side of the case where the start & select buttons will go, there are 3 holes. I’m assuming the ones of the sides are 24mm, and the middle one is 30mm? (noob question)
I know Voltech said somewhere that the top panel is going to be 12in x 8 in. Does anyone have a template of where the button holes are going to be placed? I know it varies by which layout you choose (Blast City for me), but it would be helpful to have a template so I can at least get all the artwork printed and ready to go.
Thanks Halvie yeah the button sizes on the front panel are 2 24mm and 1 30mm in the middle. This may change for the next build. I’m thinking all 24mm unless you guys like it the way it is. So let me know cause I need to make my final prototype this weekend. If I do change anything I’ll post it up so you guys don’t buy the wrong parts but you might want to hold off until this weekend.
Once I get the templates made I’ll scan it and post it up so you guy can get some art going.
Thanks Halvie & Voltech for the info. Personally, either configuration for the three buttons would look great. Also, thanks for the update of the waiting list in your other thread. Looks like I just barely made the cut!
Also just to clarify, is the top sheet going to be 12x8 or 10x8? I saw two different numbers from each thread. I hope you decide to go with 12x8 for waiting list batch. It would feel really nice to have that extra real-estate available.
I’m building a few custom cases myself, and your work has most definitely inspired me! I think what you’ve done in sketchup is pretty amazing - I used to use 3dSM back before they combined with Maya but I’m still learning the basics in sketchup >.<
As a side note, be careful about referring to Japanese layout as “Jap”. It’s a racial slur ;]
