One of my favorite characteristics of the VSHG is that the buttons are lower than they are on TEs/HRAPs. It allows for your wrists to rest on the edge of the case instead of on the panel, which feels more natural to me.
Looking at the panels on your cases, however, it seems like you haven’t made a 1:1 to the original VSHG panel. Are there any plans for that? If so, I’d be very interested.
I haven’t posted here in a little while so figured I would re-post what I’ve been up to
I’m very excited to be teaming up with Art from Art’s Hobby’s to bring you the highest quality Custom panels, Plexi and Art possible . Keep an eye on my trading post for updates and pricing.
I found the OEM material they used to make the metal mounting plates with rust protection so my custom panels will look like they where made right from the original factory.
I think we can even make the folded JLF mounting plate just like you have on pretty much all factory mounting plates complete with threaded screw holes. This may add to the cost of the plates a bit so I will also offer them without this piece at a lower price point.
I can also make some more Brushed stainless Steel shells again!!! No VAS-BSS all metal cases yet but I am thinking about it if the price is right.
What Custom panels should I star working on first ? The TE is a given as well as the V.S. I’d like to eventually have everything both Art and BLKLightning had to offer as well as add a few custom Cab panels once I score a few. I’m currently working on a Custom Vewlix 2P right now with others on the way.
This might be old news and I might be the only one that cares but I just fitted the LS-32-02 PCB into my JLW and it works like a dream!!! =D
All I need now is a JLW short shaft for mounting it to a metal panel and I’ll be able to install it into any TE or V.S. sticks.
Anybody know if Sanwa already makes such a thing or if I need to make one myself?
**Voltech Arcade Sticks and accessories - News **
Also I’m taking my previous idea to make the welded on OEM style stick mount bracket to the next level and turning it into a bolt on solution. This would mean a couple of things.
I could make different mounting plates for different sticks and heights including (Sanwa, Seimitsu, Happ etc)
While they wont be available for my first run, the mounting holes will be pre drilled so you won’t need it to use my custom plates but you can upgrade to it in the future once they become available.
You will be able to remove your stick without having to first remove all the buttons and art from your custom plates =D
Voltech, I though Focusattack carried short shafts, do they not have a JLW compatible shaft?
Also, where can one purchase a new JLW? I thought they were out of production at the moment.
EDIT: Out of curiosity, what is the target pricing for your metal panels when they launch? Since I do most of my practice on my HRAP 2 SA now, I’m debating getting a new panel and a plexi for my TE.
I’m working on the T.E. and the V.S. custom button layouts as well as my own stick designs. I need to know what button layout you want to see available?
Here’s what I have but I need to narrow it down.
Vewlix (based off the Mad Catz Layout)
Sega (Based off the Astro City aka Sega P1) Sega P2 will be added soon
HitBox (Based off the HitBox layout)
Hori Tekken (Based off BLKLightnings layouts)
MK orginal, Condensed and Mad Catz Vewlix Hybrid (These are based off of BlkLightnings layouts)
VSHG OEM, VSHG Modified - minus the top 4 buttons (Based off the VSHG OEM Layout)
For the VAS-22 I have a few different function button Panel layouts ie the 3 24mm start, select and home buttons including the RT RB buttons.
Default (2 top left 1 top right)
Deuces Wild (just the two top left)
Triforce (cluster of 3 on the right center)
VLX (1 centered to the right of the play buttons VLX style)
JDM style (1 top left and 2 top right)
Are there any other layouts you would like to see?
I wish They did but I don’t think so. =\
I want to try and keep the pricing for the custom plates similar to what we have been paying previously. This will ultimately be determined by the cost to build. It’s also why I need to get some feed back because if I can make a large batch the price can come down.
I should have a more accurate number next early week.
I would take the panel designs you sell most of and base your orders on that. I’d say you definitely need to offer Vewlix 8, and Sega 8, Sega 6(it seems to be more popular than Vewlix 6) and Hitbox. You may want to do Mortal Kombat panels as well. The rest are up to you.
As for the Sega layout, I would say go for the one used on the Hrap 2 and 3. Is that the 2P layout? I think that panel would be the one most would be more comfortable with as they were the most popular joysticks for a long period of time.
JDM - I should correct myself, I didn’t have the Sega P2 layout before. But I just got it and now I’ll add it to the list. Anyway here’s the difference between the 2 as seen below. The top is Sega P1 the bottom is Sega P2
I would like to offer full custom layouts and I probably will but starting out I just want to try and stock up an the most popular layouts.
From my personal experience the Vewlix 8 and Sega 6 are the most popular. so I will have plenty of them on hand.
Here’s a more direct question. If I made all the Vewlix and Sega P1 or P2 layouts with all 8 buttons and just used the plexi to determine the final decision between 4, 6, 7 and 8 buttons would this be a deal breaker?
I feel that this his way I could just make them in large batches and have them readily on hand instead of having the have them custom made per order. I will probably still do this for the more rare layouts but for these 2 it would be nice to just stock up on them.
Thanks for the info guys but I’d still like to here some more.
I’d say Sega 1 Player, just because that’s what’s on the HRAP’s.
Also, isn’t Sega 6(2P) the same as Vewlix 6, or what is the difference? They look pretty much.
Personally I do not care if you cut 8 buttons into every panel provided you will be able to provide plexi for them as well. I’d actually probably use 8 buttons on my astro panel, I use my TE for more than just street fighter and I use six non standard buttons for Marvel(I don’t use just left or right six, but only six are active… LOL).
Yeah the more I think about it, it just makes sense to do it this way for. I can always do a custom layout for those that don’t mind the extra time it may take.
FYI the Vewlix layout is askew just like the Sega P1 only it doesn’t round off at the ring and pinkie fingers.
Oh and I am working with Art’s Hobbies for all the Plexi panels. Another reason I want to keep it simple starting off. I’m sure once we get a feel for working this way we can expand to just about anything.
Oh yeah almost forgot. It looks like I’ll be making 2 different mounting plate brackets.
The first will accommodate the Sanwa and Seimitsu sticks similar to the OEM Arcade Panels.
The 2nd mounting bracket (if I get enough interest) will work with the Happ and Korean style sticks. I will also bring back my Universal design with button layouts and cases deep enough to fit these parts.
Hmm something I’m noticing about the OEM button layouts is that the buttons are really close together. This means that the snap in buttons will work just fine but screw in buttons may not work with some of these especially the Sanwa since they have a larger nut.
What do you think should I widen the button spacing or just leave it as is?
I’d say widen it a teeny bit. I’m sure most people who file off the little nubs from their sanwa snap in button would appreciate not having to do so. As long as both screw in and snap ins still fit snuggly, I doubt people will complain about it not being perfectly OEM size.
*edit: Ohh right. Yea I read that wrong. If the stick mount is too close to the buttons then screw ins won’t work. Gotcha.
