I’ll vote for 2p.
So you’re definitely doing panels? I ask because I’m not sure which stick I want to get a panel for. Now that Blklightning is going to stop, I don’t want to miss out. If this is for sure, I can hold off and get some from you.
I will be making panels for the following… everything! lol
Actually I will be starting out with jut a few and build up from there
I have the T.E and the V.S. with HRAP coming soon what other panels should I add to the list?? I’ll try to add them buy popular demand.
Oh and I already added the Sega P1 and P2 to the list so everybody wins.
P.S. my metal shop is gonna be pissed with all the different layouts I’m gonna throw at them this week lol Oh well
I’ll try and get pics of each layout on my flickr page sometime next week for your viewing pleasure.
Again my goal is to stock up on the most popular layouts for the most popular sticks at first then we can get into the obscure and super custom stuff =D
will VLX replacement panels have the screws welded onto the panel?
Not welded but a bolt on solution. Imagine 4 screws instead of the 4 spot welds on the inside of your current panel. The panel will fit by default a Sanwa JLF but with the bracket you will be able to mount the JLF and LS-32 as well as any other stick the current brackets will fit.
^^ i was a bit vague. i was referring to the actual panel itself. how the panel will be attached to the case. OEM style with screws welded onto the bottom panel or screwed from the top.
Oh right, I can do stud welds so that’s a possibly. I would need a VLX something I don’t currently have right now to be sure but yeah it’s possible.
I’d like the joystick spaced out Noir style with Sega P1 button layout and another panel with P2 layout.
does your metal shop do brass/bronze?
I’d also like to see the classic MK layout as well as the Madcatz version offered.
As of right now I’m using the standard spacing that Mad Catz uses. I may add some Noir and Wide spacing once I get more established.
It’s a sheet metal shop so it’s mostly Steel but what did you have in mind?
I have both of those layouts available.
oxidized bronze/brass looks cool, and im a metal polisher by trade so i wanted to try to get a brass stick done and give it that old rustic finish look. i could do it with steel, but it’s a little tough to oxidize and never really gets that same look.
I wonder if I had one of the cases plated if you could get the same result?
I’ve been looking into Chrome brass and copper plating.
you could do it if the plating is of a reasonable thickness. nothing too thin though, because it eats away at the metal a bit and sometimes some light sanding is required. i’d be very interested in the results though. i think im gonna ask around about this later on.
Cool let me know what you find.
OK. I expect to be a little squished when I sit down at a 2P Astrocade. It just seems like such a waste of real estate when we have these huge sticks in our laps and only using the center of them.
I guess I misread your post. You said you need to narrow down the list, so I thought you meant which of these panels would people be interested in buying.
Oh ok I read yours wrong sorry about that. So Classic MK and the MC UMK layouts and ditch the others gotcha.
From what I’ve noticed, the Noir cabs are really tight together the MadCatz layout has a little more space between the buttons and most people are used to this layout. I agree that that space seems wasted but it’s what most people like.
Speaking of layouts, I’m working on my VAS-22 panel layouts, Here’s an example of some of the button poisons for the Start, Select and Home buttons. I think I’ll use this pattern in all the mounting plates so you can choose what plexi top to go with it.

The 4 holes directly around the stick position will mount the new mounting bracket the outer holes will mount a JLF stick without the need for the mounting bracket. I will also make a Universal case and plate for American and Korean style sticks with a 35mm hole for the stick and a custom mounting bracket…
- Default - Two top Left 1 top Right
- VLX - Two top left 1 Right Center
- Triforce - 3 Right Center
- Full Force - Two top Left 3 Right Center
What do you think about the layout?
asked about this today, and it seems that its very doable. i don’t know how thick the plating is at the shop you would be using though.
also im going to oxidize the metal panels of my TE-s next week. i’ll post up the results.
So if I where to plate the metal in copper you could get the effect you’re looking for, that’s pretty cool.
it depends on how thick the plating is, but most likely yes. as long as it cant be sanded out (like gold plating), i can do it.
