Profound & Pointless

Guy is very similar to Rose and Sakura in vanilla SF4. By that I mean the character is acceptable but not quite a great character yet. You can see what sort of playstyle was desired for Guy he is almost the character he was intended to be but a few small mistakes in the properties of his moves and mobility keep him from doing exciting things often. It seems like this is true for all the new characters. Even with Ibuki, she is very strong and fun to play but you can probably bet some of the stuff she can do wasn’t intended. Over all I think if there was some sort of balance patch it would not be hard to fix these new characters.

Ofcourse, I’m not sure what Hakan was all about though…

I find a lot of matchups are even for Guy if not in his favor. My only problems are with Abel, Gief, and T hawk. Command grabbers that don’t have to pressure Guy cuz Guy is going to have to come to them anyway. And even Abel isn’t that bad for me. With him it’s more like who can land the big combo first wins. A good Balrog is tough for anyone. But sagat, ryu, ken, akuma, all get punished by guy so i think capcom did well with him. It was an easy march to B rank anyway.

Against T.Hawk, you have to be very patient. In my very little experience in that match, I used instant Izuna Drop on a jumping T.Hawk. Save your EX meter for EX Izuna Drop too. It helped me but may be different for other people. You have to be elusive and don’t do anything unsafe against. That elbow drop also helps keeping certain characters down so you may want to look at that too.

Keep your spacing far once you get get the lead on T.Hawk and look at doing instant Izuna Drops on reaction. Don’t do any run mixups and if you can hit confirm a c.jab, into s.strong, then finish it with elbow. Forget about the mixups because it’s too risky and will be more rewarding to T.Hawk especially if he blocks your run mixup.

You can try some risky stuff just to feel out your opponent though. Dish out a couple bushin flips to see how the player reacts. If he/she keeps on standing during the flip, then just grab him. If he crouches, then it’s profound sadness if the player punishes you after blocking the elbow cancel or if you entirely whiff the grab.

Whore out that elbow drop that cancels the arch of your jump to bait out T.Hawk’s attacks. Just don’t do it too close otherwise the T.Hawk player will try to mash out DP after blocking it.

I’m sure others will chime in on the matchup as I too want to know what else can be done against T.Hawk. I’m way behind on playing SSF4 but will try to get in more games when I have the time.

They would mash SPD not DP ahah or atleast i experienced that. As long as you can keep them out of the air the match is less stressful but sometimes let it slide block and RSL (if you have meter and can time it you can FADC (backdash) and lp bushin flip timing is strict but you can managed to grab them on wake up just like EX bushin flip, Tsukimiya has shown this off an untech knockdown, so this will help a lot, also EX Izuna beats out Hawk’s DP all versions. Never go for elbow unless hit confirmed and never Run/stop. Play it safe as much as you can.

Lol yeah they’ll either mash out DP or SPD. In Gief’s case, it’ll be SPD with random lariats here and there.

Lariat gets beaten but elbow or mk ( I believe) If they do it on the ground (Don’t know why.) cr mk it sets up for lp bushin flip shenanigans if you can time it right you can grab them on wake up just like ex bushin flip. (Tsukimiya) show’s this set up off cr.mk and Run slide.

Bad comparison because Dan is uh… crap and Guy isn’t… better analogy would be say… arguing that you shouldn’t play C. Viper because Ryu is easier to play as.

Beyond the rest, does anyone else think that his target combo to miss on crouch is stupid?

lp - mp - hp - hk

what’s a command combo?

i think he means target combo mp>hp

no.

use the other target combo for crouching.
use hit confirm cr.jabs or shorts to hit standing.

or you can jump in and hit jab right away beacause sf4s system is weird.
