Profound & Pointless

A thread to vent frustration on such a poor job done by capcom when implementing Guy.

  1. Vertical spin kick that doesnt hit in both directions I love how they just ignore physics… yet juri’s pinwheel and other nonsense is a much better spam wake up option.

  2. How many times has a reversal wake up spin kick been beat out by a jab or grab… i thought he was airbone…

  3. Normals… in alpha he actually had working normals… you would think after cut and pasting him into SSF4 everything would jus stay the same… i mean thats what it loks like they did cut nd pace with some cell shading…

  4. Guy was offered a job at Palm Springs in California because they felt his whiffs were so valuable to power their windmills…

  5. He lost a sponsorship with an alarm clock manufacturer because he refuses to wake up in a proper manner.

  6. He believes everything should combo even throws (whoever left that glitch in there should hav been fired)

  7. Did i talk about whiffs o yeh he does that so much even his jabs whiff when he gets thrown… Guy is too cool for O.S. tech or feels that its cheap as he is so honorable…

  8. He loves getting hit by FA’s because out of the whole cast he only has one reliable FA nd its slow as hell… (i thought he was a ninja…)

  9. His running overhead is suppose to give advantage on block yet some people can actually ultra after blocking…

  10. He’s a rushdown char yet i see roses charging me… and he can’t do anything about it cuz his reversals need to check with the FAA before they can take off…

Theres much more I just cant remember all of it cuz its a lot… No wonder people play Ryu and never change he’s stable…

I mained ryu in sf4 and now I play Guy. Not that I’m disagreeing with you because Guy has many weaknesses and I keep finding out the more I play him. It’s too bad I like the character cause the smart thing would have been to switch to ibuki who’s a far better shinobi gameplay wise.

Anyways, not all hope is lost. Capcom may still be doing balance changes for arcade version. If they fix some of his issues, buff him a bit and maybe even give him more tools then he’ll be perfect.

If you’re used to playing characters with amazing wakeup reversals then guy is not for you. Most of your complaints revolve around his spinning kick not being some amazing wakeup, which is ironic because EX’d its on messiah kick level.

As for everything else, if you want ryu like abilities PLAY RYU. My only complaint is guys weakened footsies, and i’ll live with it. He may wind up mid or low tier but he’s a lot better than the low tiers of vanilla and he’s still got potential.

Quiet down.

They are different moves, and they have different strengths. You fail by comparing only one aspect of them, and claiming inbalance.

Hitbox data shows that light Bushin Senpukyaku and EX Bushin Senpukyaku are unthrowable from the first frame of start-up.

Really though, those were terrible.

Good lord, ActualProof, please cry me a river.

Guy I think is an amazingly designed character. He has great normals. Some really sexy combos. Crazy mixups too. All the things you listed, pretty much everyone else suffers from the exact same problems.

You’re telling me Rose is rushing your shit down and you complain about not having a good enough reversal to keep them out. Just so you know, EX Bushinsenpukyaku is GODLIKE.

There’s something called normals which you use to ZONE people out so they can’t rush your shit down. There’s no more GODLIKE specials like in SF4 anymore that blast through everything because of crazy invincibility.

Geez louise… QQ moar.

You won’t get far with Guy if you don’t learn to embrace his weaknesses. Just sayin’.

I wish I could EX Bushin Senpuukyaku this thread =/

I wish I could high-five you for having a C & C avatar.

(((Thread officially hijacked))))

List music suggestions I can listen to while in training mode. My suggestion is any Coheed and Cambria song.

gogogogogo

Basically you want get off of me moves that work everytime.

Learn your normals.

Ex spin kick is retardedly good.

I’ll bet you need more practice with the rose matchup.

Try Abel and my boy Fuerte. Then you’ll know what a real shitty wakeup game is. Abel has a roll that gets tossed. Fuerte has command runs that get grabbed. There real wakeup threats are random ultras and roll / ex guacamole.

Guy has good dashes. A good jab. A combo into ultra and awesome corner trapping skills. The only real crappy thing he has is his jump… But basic street fighter 101 is don’t jump.

Take a break from him. Come back when your head clears. Characters like Guy and Fuerte require work and a clear head to win. Else you should grab Ken and mash fiyah dp.

The game is still new man. Slow down. Block more. Jump less, keep it simple.

I don’t know if I’d say Guy’s ex tatsu is as good as ex messiah. There were times when it got stuffed by cody’s jump in plus if you block ex messiah you have to punish in between and time it right as well or it might trade, otherwise it’s fairly safe on block and goes further distance, where as guy’s ex spk is very unsafe on block, so yea…lets not say ignorant shit like his ex tatsu is as good as ex messiah just because someone mentioned it before the game came out and now everyone is echoing it.

It also makes me laugh you guys say he’s a lot better then vanilla low tiers yet don’t mention who exactly. I bet most of those “low tiers” have better match ups and options overall.

Guy’s weaknesses will be evident during high level play, just wait and see. He might have some good match ups but there is a lot of flaws in his game, and if you disagree with that, you’re just telling me that you don’t know Guy that well.
His full potential has not been realized yet but I don’t think he will improve enough to really make him solid. If capcom announces that they’re doing balance changes, we should make a thread for reasonable buffs, if that time ever comes.

If it was stuffed by a jump in, it was used wrong. He has COMPLETE body invulnerability from the first frame of start-up.

This is a joke right? You think at high level play, people don’t know how to punish EX messiah? Why do you think every Rufus player FADC’s it if it’s blocked? The only advantage EX messiah has over EX tatsu is the fact that it can be FADC’d.

You’re right, he’s not god tier or anything, but listening to ActualProof whiny description of him makes Guy seem Roll tier.

Oh boy, you think thats bad, try playin Dan!

Even with Guy’s faults I feel like Im cheating with a char so good compared to the Saikyo Beast!
Of course now Ive used him so much Im better with a low tier that I am with all the mids and highs! Go figure

haha Dan will always be awesome and he’s quite underrated as well. He’s better then most people think

…and yea the op makes Guy look worse then he is but some of you are making him look better then he actually is. Imo, if you main Guy, you might want to have a secondary character as well cause I don’t think he can handle all 35 characters on a semi-equal basis.

Tell me about it! It’s as if they’ve never even seen a man jump twelve feet in the air with a leg totally outreched while making multiple spinning rotations. Ono must have missed that physics class.

Vanilla vega would kill for guys kick.

He most definitely cannot handle everyone equally, or even close to equal. I don’t generally like whining about characters, because usually a lot of it does come down to player ability, but the more I play Guy the more it just feels like a completely lost cause and not because I can’t “get better” with him but simply because he’s so limited when you get right down to it. I mained Gen in vanilla and I had major issues in specific matchups, but when I play Guy it feels like Gen all over again but a much weaker version with even more handicaps in almost every situation. He gets out poked by many he shouldn’t, his air game is awful and his normals are mostly bad. His jump is also probably the worst in the game and talking about how great :d: + :mp: are doesn’t change the fact that his jump is bad. Sure, he has mixups, but seriously why does everyone keep falling back on that? What character doesn’t have a mixup game? In the end, I don’t think I’ll actually give up playing him, but I doubt I’ll play him as exclusively as I have been. If anything, he’s going to end up “bottom tier” simply because the majority of his matches are 3-7 or 4-6 with very few 5-5 and 6-4 matches. He truly feels like a completely underdeveloped character who had almost no real quality testing because he would be so much better with just minor tweaks to already existing moves.

Boy, Guy players think they have it bad - look at the Makoto threads. I think Guy has a lot of potential and I think there’s still lots to discover for him in the coming weeks/months. Same thing with Makoto. I’m not giving up on her either. I play Gen, Makoto and Guy. They have such interesting styles. Still to early to jump off the wagon for either Makoto or Guy. I tell You I have and easier time with Guy than Makoto.

shut the hell up you stupid scrub!!
if you want the perfect character then pick someone else!
or dont play this game at all because everybody has their flaws.

p.s im in a bad mood.

am i the only one who thought the wiffing joke was actually funny?

You obviously are not a good player if you think guys is bad.He has the tools to deal with every character in the game. Please go and practice and stop making false accusations about things that you dont understand
