Primal Rage

The only concept art I’ve found for PR are these:

Sauron - http://www.atarigames.com/ataritrip/pages/ataritrip29.jpeg.html

Talon - http://www.atarigames.com/ataritrip/pages/ataritrip31.jpeg.html

Not much really…

I did buy a couple of old Gamepro magazines on eBay (a few hours ago) with Primal Rage in them, so maybe they’ll have some pics in the article/s?..

Alright Hanzo, I received those GamePro magazines today, and I’m looking at the Out-RAGE-ous combos that were sent in… :lame:

[Button Layout]

High - (1) (2)
Low - (3) (4)

The only outrageous combo is Vertigo’s (maybe)… Which is:
Jump-in high 2 - 1+2, high 2, high 1+2, Come Slither, high 2, low 4, Scorpion Sting.

It does have some concept artwork, but you’d have to do some photoshop to them, as they placed the pictures of the combos over portions of them…

On the plus side, it does have a short interview with James Goddard and other people who worked on WeaponLord…

Sup Neb? Hehehe good times. I have that issue and yes. Those combos were fairly weak. I sometimes wonder if ppl really tried them on home versions or used the Arcade and then submit them. Judging the average customer for GP in those days I will assume that they used SNES version cause I dont think that combo works on Genesis.

Thx for the PM too!

So Hanzo, since you’ve played most versions of PR, was the Saturn version like more like the psx, or the arcade version? As far as the combos are concerned…

Hi NEB. No man sadly PR SAT was a different animal (no pun) and it features a VERY different game engine. You can do combos but there is stuff totally wild like Diablo standing 3 x 5 then 2 then 1+2 and stuff like that. Its not bad but it is not the arcade. :annoy:

I think I must be the only one on the planet who liked using Vertigo

I actually like her too. Fact is that she must do tremendous amounts of work to compete. Imagine Alex from 3S vs Chun. Its an uphill battle. Of course against n00bs and not so good players you can do teleport shenanigans and stuff like that and keep them mad hehe.

I remember that Game it was awesome… not many people know this, but there was a sequel. but sadly they killed it before ever releasing it…

There’s actually a petition on the web to get “Primal Rage 2” released, or (What I’m hoping for) they will see That there’s enough people out here that Still love Primal Rage, so they’ll do the smart thing and make a fancy new Next-gen remake of the first game.

If you are a Primal Rage fan then go here and sign it. its free, and will take less then 5 minutes.

Bumping this thread. I still want to get into this game again once I get a PS stick goin’. Bring that Diablo back and maybe pick up Armadon again. Would be cool to see this game brought to XBL/PSN.

I call bullshit on this.
I remember a while back a friend of mine showed me how to “dodge” the no cheese inf with 2 characters.
One dude that can throw ice and some fast little raptor of some kind. It looked funny how you can dodge the lighting.

What the combo was? I don’t know…

it would be interesting to see that. I have tried a lot of ways to avoid that with no luck at all. See: If a game limits the number of moves that you can do in a combo then how can you do an infinite? Not only that, if you exceed or reach 20 hits or the NO CHEESE warning appears, the opponent receiving the combo becames “invincible” for like an entire second so anything you throw will either wiff, miss.

There is a way however to bypass this 20 hit limit AFAIK and its using the “punching bag” move as the 20th hit (or 21 if you freeze your opponent in the 20th hit as showed in my PR combo vid). So the count goes up and it allows for one more Juggle hit but thats all.

EDIT: Here is the video, the Blizzard 20+ hits combo is at: 13:13

The list that triggers the no cheese warning are these:

Good luck and until you can bypass that then I could call BS on what you said but dont take offense on that hehe I just DONT know it all on PR =)

This game has aged pretty well. The digitized graphics are better looking than MK, and aren’t nearly as stiff. I’d like to play it again, but I’ve downloaded both versions available on the Rom sites (versions 2.0 and 2.3) and still cannot get traditional controls. Holding down the buttons and then doing the motion is too awkward.

didnt one of the earlier revisions not have the no cheese shit
cause i remember being able to do both of blizzards freeze moves in a combo
the breath and the ice geyser in one combo then my local arcade had gotten an upgrade kit and u couldnt do it anymore

i remember way back there was none of that no cheese shit then they upgraded the kit and it was there

i dont ever remember there being traditional controls
it was always holding buttons down from what i remember

and i dont know about it being awkward
it was like u had to negative edge everything

Rushed probably you are right about Rev. 1.4… Dont remember right now.

Yes you could do everything like a normal fighting game or negative edge.

I loved this game, too bad I never saw it again, although they have it at the philly arcade on the MAME machine.

Why do you have an obscene and grammatically incorrect swedish sentence in your sig?

You have to conjugate “fuck”… But there’s no way to show what the error is in english since there’s no difference there (“to fuck”/“I fuck”)

I just got a copy of MAT2!!

if they make a sequel they should keep it stop-motion in HD and keep the cheesy look the game had. this game was so fun back in the day at the arcade and on snes.

Ah yes, PR, such a underrated game…If they ever make a sequel, they should use most of the stuff they made the first one great.

This idea is definitely cool. HD stop-motion would certainly appeal to me. Something different than the norm.
