Preppopolis: Feb 8th: Kit Kat Palooza

I dunno man, I just don’t like the way the characters LOOK on the 3S cabinet. They seem all deformed and shit. Not necessarily a major flaw, but I hate the way it looks.

I said Smokin While We Drive
Leanin to the left and leanin to the right…

didn’t they close because maydenbauer bought the land? That’s what I thought happend.

They moved the arcade to woodinville Lanwerx. In general from talking to the guys that worked there, the machines didn’t really pull much of a profit, they were more just a nice service to the gamers that were there. Zach probably can paint a better picture than I can, but 25 cent arcade cabs were available and it didn’t make too much of a difference… certainly not twice as much play.

Woodinville: Yeah, tucked in the back of the arcade (half of them were pretty much hidden) in an out of the way location in a place that was hard to get to that not enough people knew about – it just wasn’t going to work well.

I think they made OK money on the arcade machines in both locations… ?

Bellevue: Yeah, they were denied a new lease or something of that sort, as it was going to be torn down. It’s just a huge hole in the ground now.

When I think back on Lanwerx, I start to realize that that place was too good to be true. An arcade/lan that was open until like 2,3 in the morning with nearly every fighting game out there you can imagine being a quarter to play. Fucking amazing.

^-- I like the new av. I don’t know if you liked last week’s Hip Hop History playlist, but … it had to be done.

For the next shindig’s playlist, I’m figuring so far:

  • Hollertronix: Doing It Real Big
  • The Rub: It’s the Motherfucking Remix 2.2 (by request)
  • Abraham Bandwagon: Fiesta Forever
  • the new hotness from Applied and Computational
  • one of the new CDs I’m getting from Turntable Labs (home of EVERYTHING good)
  • some kinky old school rap playlist i’ll devise (Hell Razor, Ice T, LL Cool J…)

I support this. New track up today, although it never works when I try to listen to it. Myspace is fucking up.

Remember, the arcade was owned by Kick’s, not Lanwerx, and they were making a ton of money.

I can’t hear it either. Did you try to upload it again?

its the 2nd time I’ve uploaded it. They say it takes up to 24 hours, but I think something’s fucked up. I’ll try to reupload it maybe with a slightly different name or something when I’m off work today and hopefully it works.

Its a nice little summery trip-hop/lounge kinda track

They sold the machines to Kicks back when they were in Bellevue (I think 2-3 months after Kicks moved in?). I think they went to LanWerx Woodinville out of inertia - I know Siu Wai (Kicks) definitely didn’t have much space to put them in. (Which is how Bryan walked away with the free 33" Showcase CvS2 machine (IIRC) since he gave Siu Wai garage space for about a year.) I don’t know what they were doing with the money the machines collected at that point.

I know Siu Wai really had wanted to put together a new arcade after his old Chinatown arcade had shut down, so was happy to have this one up while it lasted.

OMG… is that av from Stinger?

edit: no I just looked it up… but it still looks familiar.

last edit i promise: Mario 2?

ok I lied: Yep, just looked up a speed run on YouTube, it’s the rocket in the ice level. Please ignore the conversation with myself.

A part of me still wishes a new dope ass arcade would open up somewhere in Seattle. One as good as Lanwerx.

EDIT-I loved the hip hop history playlist. That shit was on point!

great post

I wish they would make a decent arcade period.

OK, my CapCom Classics Collection 2 arrived today. So that’s one less thing people need to bring over. If anybody has a line on a good deal for a PS2 for downstairs, lemme know.

I went to pick up more stools, but they were out of stock. Gah!

im sorry my neighbor was such an @$$hole…

That guy was amusing. Don’t get shot by him - he’s crazy.

Frank, I have a new secret I need to show you next time. It’s broken.

I can’t seem to find any of our ST tourney footage on preppy’s site. I used the “ST” search on:
http://zachd.com/mvc2/fulllist.html

Yes, my entire server was destroyed and I’m actively repopulating it - hence the countdown in my signature. Seattle begins with “S” and thus is in the last 1/3 of what’s going back up.

I also have three further tapes to process still, sorry.
