Preppopolis: Feb 8th: Kit Kat Palooza

First of all, Zach, thanks for having me over.

Second, it was awesome to finally meet many of you who I recognize on the forums. It’ll probably be a while before I get all the names/faces down though.

Thanks to the portland peoples showing up. It was awesome to see fatbear in action. I really don’t feel like I was on at all though. I didn’t even want to continue embarrassing myself playing making that many mistakes. I was a little uncomfortable playing 3s on the st cab. Maybe next time we’ll get some time with a ps2 or something like that.

Also, thanks to zass for teaching me st. It became clear pretty quick that I’m a pretty poor student so I think he was giving up, but thanks for trying.

I actually picked up a copy of ccc2 and will practice st until I get to play again. I also swear to learn some marvel at some point before next time.

Sadly I talked to some of you and neglected to really find out who you were. I realized my connections were a little limited with only going to gw and only playing 3s. Hopefully by picking up some other games and showing up to zach’s I will be a better contributor to the scene.

However, my biggest notice is the complete lack of 3s happening. I really think that the 3s players should find some organization and I don’t think that it should be on zach to deal with it. His thing is marvel, and though it seems like st is pushing itself in, it is also happening at other locations.

gameworks and that mall(forget which one) that have the crappy 3s cabs aren’t enough. It’s overpriced and not a good environment. If I had the means I would set it up at my place, but yeah…it’s not possible. Despite that I am determined to contribute to 3s happening in seattle however I can. I honestly can’t think of how to better organize or unify seattle 3s, but I know the players are there and I think we could rival portland if we step it up.

So anyone who is “sort-of” a 3s player or used to be or is considering it by all means please speak up now. I’ve tried pressuring gw staff to fix the machine hundreds of times and it’s still always broken. I can’t recommend a substitute but I am effectively done with gameworks. Hopefully someone can come up with a solution.

If nobody is really interested and I am just pushing a dead issue then I will shut up. However I truly believe there is a large enough 3s scene here that we can get together regularly. I used to offer to buy time cards every week and also pay for any games from when I got there til’ time card time. Then I would just leave the time card there after I left @ like 11:30. I only bothered with it just to try to encourage people to show up who kept saying they had no money.

It’s sort of similar situation outside of gw. I can’t help out a whole lot here, but if someone really needs a copy of anniversary collection give me a pm and I will see what I can do. I’m not exactly rolling in the dough so it’s about all I can offer. Most everybody has a ps2 especially in the scene so I figure that’s taken care of, and many have sticks so I leave that to you. However, if money is an object and you really want to get a copy of the game, give me a pm and I’ll see what I can do.

sorry for the wall of random ass text

I didn’t even notice that Zach installed the 3S board, I guess because poker ran so late and I left after a couple Marvel games after that. I would’ve played if I noticed. Weak.

And damn dude, how did you not play ST when it came out in the arcade. :wonder: It’s weird hearing someone say they played ST (or any Capcom fighter) for the first time in 2007.

oh my gosh

thanks for letting me play games there preppy!! I had a great time I have never had in seattle. I feel like staying in the us and playing there…lol

I thank players who enjoyed playing turbo and VF5 with me. everyone was kind to me!!oh my gosh thank you guys! I will practice turbo in Japan.

I will be back in September, so I am looking forward to meeting you guys again there!

oh I will train KOF as well

I played ST last Wednesday at Beasley’s. I believe that it was the first time I’ve really played the game. It brought back fond memories of World Warrior and Championship Edition–both of which I had played in my youth. Not sure why I never got into Hyper, Turbo, or ST. There was a large amount of hedonism during my middle school years, where gaming was not remotely on my radar. Yes, I took a break from video games to indulge in drugs and sex before returning to them. I chose my path in life, and I stick by my choices.

After I moved onto high school and awoke from the haze of debauchery, Alpha and CotA had struck. Even in moderation, mood enhancers greatly added to the appeal of Alpha’s colorful effects. I guess I missed out on the two best incarnations of SFII, as far as the arcade scene was concerned.

Those of you that grew up in Seattle, know that I went to NOMS for middle school. I’m sure everything about how fucked up I am makes much more sense with that piece of information. For Seattlites not familiar with NOMS, think NOVA, only younger and even more lax.

NOMS is fucking wack, they also shared bus routes with McClure middle school because not enough hippies attended that place to warrant their own routes.

It’s funny because it’s true.

Yosuke, it was good to meet you. Thank you for helping teach me the basics of VF5 - I have not played since VF3, and I appreciate your patience.

As re: Third Strike vs ST: I don’t really care - that’s just a resource contention issue we have right now. Y’all can vote between yourselves. ST had a crowd of five-six people most of the time, so I swapped it out only once they took off, and then we had a ten man 3S crowd. So… maybe we keep ST in until the ST tourney starts, then switch over? I’m open.

The Mandel problem is partly my fault too - I thought I had mentioned him coming to Keith along with Rat, but I might not have. My cell phone’s been broken since I … flexed … so communication has been random. Please do not call me about tournament issues. Just contact the tournament director. That way you don’t have to worry about MY failures.

I never realized how much yelling bothered me. Usually in tournament situations it’s all around as ambient noise - plus it’s not my house, so I don’t care. When it’s fairly quiet where I’m at and there’s yelling elsewhere in the house, it was like nails clawing on a blackboard to me… wow. Sorry for bugging out. It was so much better playing with the headphones on, even though I couldn’t tell what was going on (no audio cues…).

Thanks to Nolan for being a sport about it. Sorry: I had lost my mind about five seconds into the first match.

Anyways, I hope you all liked some of the new Megaman tricks I’ve been working on. I was in utter Angry White Guy Rage, though, so played like shit otherwise.
I need to figure out a way to relax. Next time if that happens I think I’ll ask to play in the basement or garage… it was kind of too late to me to do it versus Nolan - plus I didn’t care, because I respect that Nolan works hard, and so as long as I get my Megaman tricks out, I’m happy - and then against Ben/Dann I just didn’t give a fuck. <3 headphones.

If I can just figure out how to end that (new) anti-Sentinel combo with Megaman, I’ll be straight. I’ll have to talk to Ranma about that. It looks soooo beautiful to me, but it’s all normals + Tron, with Tron blocking the second launcher from actually launching. sigh. It just looks dumb to have it just be a ground-only combo - I need to figure out some way of linking from it. =P

Poker was random too. I never had cards to win anything, but managed to bluff out 5 hands (usually with like 9 high… I had variations of unsuited 3/9 most of the time, with a very very rare J or Q with a low kicker) before I finally got caught chasing an inside straight. It’s so random to me when you just don’t have any cards.

Do I need another poker table/bigger table or something? I don’t think we used all my chairs, btw. I may pick up some stools at the least, since those seem to be popular for gaming too.

Did people like the 3S or ST board better? I don’t really care.

Sorry I missed people in the morning: I had to go to the soccer championship game. I played great, but we were short 3 players and so lost to an inferior team that we should have owned. Oh well.

Hopefully the new MAS sticks are here by next time. crosses fingers

It was great seeing everyone again.

Play sentinel. He’s magically better when you’re angry.

If Sentinel had Rockball or the Bonne drill I would play him every match. That would be awesome.

I picked up a copy of CCC2 for PS2 per request. <3

<3 for arcade 3s

You’d better believe I’m showing up this next time.

I graduated Saturday, but I move to Japan July 29th… that gives me 2 Zach’s house sessions before I have to take my leave.

no problem. hopefully next time we can not only play, but also talk about more details.

Hmm… I think people will need Keith’s number if they’re to be calling in ahead of time for getting seeded.

No Jamie, you’re not getting my number. I’ve already told you, I’m not interested. I’m already in a relationship. And I’m straight. Not that there’s anything wrong with the alternative life style.

I’m not going to make it to the next one. I’ll be back home in Miami for 2 weeks starting July 4th.

Giving up the crown after one term. And I thought that shit was serious. Apparently not.

The reason the scene sucks is the price of the game, plain and simple. Make it 25 cents and you have a scene again. Marvel has a bigger push because of the solid comp overall. 3s in seattle dosn’t have that. Fair price=a reason to pay, play and learn. I hope they file chapter 11.

Damn I went to nova end of junior year and senior year and that shit was really laxed, I can only imagine how NOMS was.

When I was a young kid, I used to drive by NOVA all the time with my Grandma, and I would always ask her about that place and she’d go “you don’t wanna go there.” But she’d never tell me why.

Let’s see. Lanwerx was 25 cents. They didn’t have success…

What’s convenient for you isn’t neccisarily good business, no matter if you complain “the customer is always right” or not.
