I actually wanted to redo the Wakka, DF, but I’ll give it a shot. Tablet’s alot more gawky than I thought it would be. This may take awhile. Along w/ that, I keep saying to myself that I can go balls-out, but I choke. Strange… now that I have the “power”, I don’t know what to do w/ it.
I did NOT know you could change the pen tablet to mouse control. And DF, I think I know what you were talkin about w/ the jitter feature. But you gotta show me some print screens of your modified brushes, plzkthx I demand it.
ROOK! Yeah, all of these are like tablet exercises for myself, I’m tryin to get my pen pressure right but it’s annoying as fook. Where’ve you bin man!? Quit messin around and crit my shite, dawg!
Here’s what I have to say man: how the hell do you do that? your coloring is the most awsome thing I’ve seen yet in photoshop. What I critique upon is not your lack of skill, but lack of aplication. You do the faces extremely well and make beatiful works of art out of them. The shading is nailed. What you need to do is apply the same quality to the bodies. I noticed the bodies lack a little in articulation compared to the faces. But other than that…damn! Way better than my Jedi!!!
Would be much, much better if you didn’t use white & black to lighten/darken your stuff though. Her hair could use some stronger shadows - I’m thinking some parts should be at least as dark as the outlines of her goth-black lips.
I also think you might want to be careful about the lower portion of her tresses - ends look a bit frazzled. Either render them as a solid mass, or put loads of effort into making them look nice because the dark strands of hair on a light area really stand out.
harsh enough for ya? ;7
I think there’s something really nice and subtle about her pose in the above image, though. There’s a very nice flow going on, starting from her head all the way down to her torso. I wouldn’t call that a lack of articulation
Wow, thanks Rook! I REALLY REALLY needed that man. See, SFMC told me the same thing about adding white and said to make it a brighter/darker color instead, but I don’t know what colors’ta use. So I panic, and use white and black as an estimate of shadows. You have any suggestions or links, b? Cuz I’m REALLY struggling to make my colors more vibrant and lively. It’s just, I dunno, I know my approach to contours and coloring is all wrong, that’s why I ask for crits, so I don’t make the same mistake over and over again. Thanks for commenting on the hair man. I really thought that was fine till you pointed that out. Now I see whatchu mean and it looks like I have alotta erasing and 1-pixeling to do on that layer. Thanks alot for the crit man, you don’t know how much I needed that, man. As for Jealentus, quit lyin nooka! Sike, nah. I love you dood. Thanks for the compliment.
ok, this is what I remember from a painting class I took a long time ago:
basically don’t add pure white or pure black to your colours - they are cold and are too absolute.
to lighten warm colours, mix them with a mixture of white and yellow (vary amounts of white & yellow to suit purposes). Digitally, this means picking a lighter shade of your current colour with some yellow in it.
to darken colours, mix a gray out of two complimentary colours and add that to the original colour. Digitally this would be the equivalent of choosing an analogous colour to your current shade but with higher value to it (ie; darker). Remember to match the warmth/coolness of said analagous colour to what you need it to be.
there’s no easy way to explain this but to just sit down and experiment. Heck, I don’t really get this myself or I’d paint a lot better than I do >:P
I think I know what you mean. That reminds me of when my painting teacher in college taught us to mixed burnt sienna w/ aquamarine to get a dark to greyish tone. So wait, lemme get this straight… say I have red as my base… to get my healthy shadow I use a mix of two greens? Ohh shit, I’m lost. Yeah, you’re right… I’ll stop bein a little bi0tch and experiment.
If red is your base, to get a gray you mix red with green. Now which shades of red and green are appropriate, on the other hand, comes with the knowledge of doing. So you mix red and green (add a teeny-tiny dab of black if necessary) and then add it to your base red.
btw you can actually do this mixing thing in Painter, which is kinda cool.
That girl rook just commented on is awesome man. Love the face. How come you have the gray lines like that. When you paint you should put that layer on the bottom then paint over. or put it on top as a guide but take it away at the end.
the sound affect for the webshot is “thwib” though well actually after it hit something. chsssss chssss thwib thwib
Sfmc, I think I knew what you and DF meant by usings shapes just now. At first I thought you wanted me to draw an entire figure w/ only squares and triangles(don’t ask). But I think you guys meant to give the figure more depth(?not sure). It makes sense to do that so that way, I could use it as a guide to shading my figure(is this it?). Yo, Rook, I’m gonna install the painter I just got w/ tablet cuz what you just said makes it sounds really interesting. DF - the “Chowissh” man… from the tv show! Just whisper it to yourself… chowssh. I swear that’s how web slinging should be spelled, from now on. I’m a gangsta!
