PowerUp 2011 - EVO 2011 Tournament Season Qualifier - Cincinnati, OH - April 29-May 1

I will probably come to this, hit me up with a PM so we can talk more in detail

Sure thing. PM sent!

Mike Bisson of CinciFrag.com asked a quartet of questions about PU2011 which I was more than happy to answer.

Shoot on over to the article and give it a read.

About how many players have pre-registered for MK9 so far?

I keep an updated list of current pre-registrations at the Pre-Registration Listing page on PowerUp.

That said, 2 people have pre-registered on the PowerUp site for MK9. On various forums I would say another 10 or so players have shown interest by posting in the actual threads I made. Right now very few people have pre-registered. I’m assuming that many are waiting until March, or even April.

There will be a bunch more for MK9.

I’ll go pre-reg now and tell others to.

@Lucky Day: Thank you much!

This idea was conceived by Doragonkoroshi, so thanks to him!

3s teams are hype. Really, that’s the way to go with it. Looking forward to running it.

i can’t wait

@Albertobankai: Good to hear! See you at the tournament.

The tentative schedule has been updated. MvC2 has moved to Saturday, and ST has moved to Sunday. XvSF has been dropped from the official lineup to make it easier to run head-to-head cabinet tourneys. And most of the tourneys are now starting earlier as well.

No MvC3 teams? =T

At any rate, Cleveland’s in there.
I’ll be turning the big 18 (…w00t) when MvC3 singles start, too. Lol.
Can’t wait to go to AL for the first time.

@EX Testament: No MvC3 teams plans at this point. But given how hype it’s been at WB5 this weekend, we may have to try and fit it in. Time would definitely be an issue, though, since that teams event would overlap with SSFIV 3v3, and there’d be plenty of crossover in players.

It could end up being a scheduling / bracket running nightmare! XD

If we do decide to do it, there will be an announcement : )

Please put a real Marvel tournament on the official billing for $5 :frowning:

If you plan on running both MvC3 and SSFIV teams know that’s your weekend will be taken over by two games. A lot of tournaments want that now lol but just know that in advance.

Amen to that. SSFIV singles are boring enough but add teams? Goodbye weekend. Especially with this being the first MK9 tourney too, we gotta hype that as much as we can too!

I hear ya, fellas! : )

However, SSFIV 3v3 has been on the billing since the beginning. And with Wolfkrone still bringing the SSFIV hype to the Midwest after WB5, I think this 3v3 is gonna stay.

@Tim: I really, really hope we get enough people for MK9 singles to run a team event afterward. We need to continue discussing the UMK3 exhibition as well!

@Ghaleon: You’re more than welcome to run a normal MvC2 tourney on the side. We’d even have all the Dreamcasts ready to go from Low-Tier.

It’d be cool to have a few non-listed side tourneys happen during the event. A normal MvC2 tourney makes three, since I believe Mad Possum mentioned HDR and popoblo mentioned CvS2.

At a major IMO a normal Marvel tourney should be run over a tournament no one will take seriously anyway – no ones cares if Justin comes and wins MvC2 lol it’s just that I don’t see any reason that a Smash Bros-rules version of a game should be run over the normal version of the game. If you run it at $5 it will get people in there over a low-tier sideshow.

But yeah I’m going to have to a good time with the Cle crew but I hope you think about it lol. I’ll have ST/UMK3 but I don’t really understand that choice, esp when Marvel players will undoubtedly attend a la Bar Battles. It’s kind of an insult to a game that’s kept the FGC alive for a decade from my view to have to bribe people who don’t even take it serious into playing a low-stakes tournament and not even care about the people who actually care about the game

Definitely see your point on MvC2, Chris. I don’t like banning stuff either, not even for “fun”. Seemed at the time of conception that low-tier would be popular, though. But, like you say, the Marvel players will be in attendance (either for MvC3 or just because it’s gonna be a great event), so why not give them something else to have fun with : )

Do you think $10 entry for a normal MvC2 tourney is too much? At least that would make it more exciting for the players who do care.

Only reason I ask is that one person has already signed up online for low-tier. I’ll have to contact him about any switch we make to see if he wants a refund.

MvC2 low-tier while fun, is not MvC2. A regular tournament should always take precedence over low-tier. This would be similar to having SSFIV New Characters Only as the main tournament and then having regular SSFIV as a side tournament. Just my 2 cents. I would keep it at $5 if you decide to change it to regular rules though, that price point should still bring in any low tier players that were planning on entering.
