PowerUp 2011 - EVO 2011 Tournament Season Qualifier - Cincinnati, OH - April 29-May 1

I mean, yeah, def low-tier Marvel is popular, but not more than a $5 MvC2 regular tournament, which has definitely proven to be the sweet spot for Marvel this past year in the Midwest at least.

I agree strongly with harmon and chris …now LT is very fun and a speciality of mine but it should never be more important than real marvel espically at an event of this caliber. …also I dont play LT anymore

Well, looks like we’ll be running normal MvC2! Can’t disappoint some of the most serious players attending, and it’s a simple change. The entry will drop to $5. Thanks for the input, fellas.

And thank you Nathan for always listening to your audience

Thanks Harmon, I try my best!

One last question, what’s the ruleset for normal MvC2? I know there are still a few restricted glitches, but I don’t know what they are.

There’s a glitch with Ruby Heart where you can freeze the game, and one with Gambit that results in a time out. I think those might only be in the arcade version, though. Using dead-body infinites isn’t permitted to time someone out, but only to gain positional advantage. The Juggernaut power-up glitch is always allowed from what I’ve seen. At this point if you enter a Marvel 2 tourney I think it’s universally understood which tricks you can/can’t do.

So MvC2 rules:

  • No dead body infinite timeouts. Only use for positioning.
  • Juggnernaut power-up glitch is allowed
  • No game freezing glitches

Just want to make sure that anyone who enters and doesn’t know the rules, knows that they got bodied within the ruleset.

@FrankieG and others interested in TvC: TvC is currently the only side tournament still at $10 entry. I’m considering dropping it to $5. Thoughts?

Godliiiiiiike thanks Nathan!

i can’t wait

I prefer Dropping Super Teams for Marvel Teams

Well, we can only fit in one 3v3 in SSFIV or MvC3, so I’ll put the call out. If you want MvC3 3v3 or SSFIV 3v3 at PU2011, sound off.

Everyone will have until March 14th to vote for one or the other in this thread. So get all your friends in here.

Right now the score stands at:

MvC3 3v3: 1 vote

SSFIV 3v3: 0 votes

Count me in.

I vote for 3v3 SSF4, if just for being simpler. How would 3v3 MvC3 work? Could you have duplicates on your team, or would they have to be 9 distinct characters per team? Or would everyone be required to have one unique character to differentiate teams? Two unique characters, one duplicate allowed?

I’ve never seen an MvC2 team tournament, so correct me if I’m wrong and there are already rules set in place for this kind of thing, but it just seems like more of a headache going into it.

MvC 3 teams < Super Teams.

Super takes wayyyyy too long to run by itself. Add a 3 on 3?

Plus MvC 3 is newer and Super teams had a great run at last years PU

Marvel teams. I prefer teams with no duplicate characters allowed

This post dosent make sense so you say you want super teams but you say it takes too long to run…make ur mind up

mvc3 teams over super teams imo

@Phil: I’m not too sure which way you’re voting XD

Did you mean: MvC3 3v3 > SSFIV 3v3

Also, for rules, it would be as Keits said. No duplicate characters out of 9.

I’m very excited to announce that McVan’s Video Games based in Indiana will be a sponsor of PowerUp 2011!

They will be providing us with gift certificates for their online store and two dual-modded Hori EX2 arcade sticks! All new buttons will be provided by Rollie Electronics. Rollie Electronics also has a thread here on SRK.

That is fantastic! I’ve been buying stuff from Rollie for a while now. Good guy, great stuff and fair prices. Give him your business if he has something you want.
