PowerUp 2010 and Raging Storm: Ohio - Cincinnati, OH - May 28-30

Caught the tailend of the stream this evening after I got home. Unfortunately I’ll miss out on SSFIV this time around because I won’t be off work til 2pm, hopefully departing Dayton by 3 or 3:30.

Haven’t been this hype for anything in quite some time. I don’t think there are any other streams but ours tomorrow, so I think we’ll have a good internet audience!

I’m a little better than expected on cash at the moment, so I will be open to money matches if I’m suffieciently out of mind. Hit me up, ya’ll.

Brent, gary, Masamune_ Shadow, and rei-scarred ran into a bit of trouble, so it is looking highly doubtful that we will be able to make it there by the cut off time today. Is there any way the time can be extended/ work something out.

I am 99.8% sure i will be there tomorrow for UMK3

I hope so. A lot of people are really hyped up to see some high level UMK3. Plus there is a guy here in Cincinnati that just doesn’t lose. I’ve never seen you play Tim Static, but I’d wager $20 he could beat anyone in the building tomorrow. Anyone up for that bet?

Also, for those of you who didn’t hear the announcement, we will be resuming the Midwest 5v5 tomorrow afternoon around 12:30pm. Everything else finished just in time even with a bit of snag in getting SSFIV singles started. Thanks to all the PU staff for helping us keep things running smoothly.

When’s the doors open?

Unless his name is Lex, I’m willing to bet that Ghaleon or Tim (do you still own the cabinet?) could give him a run for that money  Unfortunately I couldn’t make it out to this. I wish I could have. Just checking in for any results/stuff thus far since a crew from Pittsburgh came out.

Edit: I didn’t know HDR teams were going on or that many people even registered  All my crew cares about is Super SF4 anyways so no one informed me of anything. Oh well, have fun and good luck to everyone today.

Pittsburgh did great in SSFIV 3v3 teams making it to winners finals but losing in Losers finals to take 3rd. 18 teams in the tournament so nice showing PA.

We open at 10am Diego so 15 minutes from now. Don’t forget to get those HDMI cables from me if you can make it out today

Im coming soon.

That’s what she said… Sorry, I had to before someone else beat me to it…
Seriously, I wish I coulda made it there for Super 4. I make it a point to support local tournies whenever possible.

incidentally the last sf4 tournament in wisconsin got at least 30 people

Results will be up soon everyone! Have to get the rest of the equipment out of Arcade Legends today, and I’ll be spending the rest of the day working on the records : )

Thanks to everyone who showed up! We hit our share of snags along the way, but overall I heard from the players that they had a great time, and that makes it all worth it to me.

Here are the PU2010 results

@ Arcade Legends

Overall, I had a great time at the tourney and my experience was positive, but there were a few things that really bugged me.

  1. The original post about the tourney states that “all arcade games will be on free play all weekend and you can play as much as you want with your venue fee paid!” and I clicked “game list” on your website and saw the massive list of games. Coming to play a bunch of those old games for just my venue fee honestly played a big part in my decision to make the drive out there to the tourney, so I was really let down to only see 4 arcade machines at the event. I understand now that you’re in the middle of moving and that there needed to be room for the tourney, but I felt really duped.

  2. The food situation. I understand catering an event and disallowing outside food is pretty common, and a great way to make money. When I pre-registered and paid the forum had a link to a menu of sandwiches and sides. At the actual event there was only pizza from a place within walking distance that you were selling at an inflated price. Again I felt duped because I had paid my fee expecting one thing only to be provided with something else.

  3. I understand the importance of keeping an aisle clear for safely reasons, but whoever was going around making people move was extremely rude. Next time clearly mark the floor with tape so people know where the aisle is. There were times when I was treated rudely for sitting in the aisle when I thought I was clear. One time I was about to sit down where I thought would be ok, when a staffer pulled my chair out from under me and put his hand on my back and I nearly fell. That is pretty unacceptable.

Thanks for hosting the event though, and I am looking forward to checking out the new arcade next year. Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the comments. I definitely see how all of those things were annoying. The games on Free Play definitely should have been made more clear. The next PowerUp is at the new place and will have room for all the games and the tourney. THE FOOD was something that couldn’t be helped. The smoker that was cooking the food for Friday stopped working as the food was being prepared for the weekend. The parts for this machine cannot be simply picked up at any hardware store. That left us with the option of no food, or something simple. We actually made almost nothing off the pizza and it was mainly there to feed those who didn’t want to leave. The rudeness will not be at PU2011. I do apologize for that. See you next year
