PowerUp 2010 and Raging Storm: Ohio - Cincinnati, OH - May 28-30

I think the issue is with the timing of this idea. A wildcard would be cool, if it had been announced way before the week before the tournament. It’s never good to change rules so soon before a tournament. Of course I don’t really care since I’m not on a team, but I imagine that’s what folks are thinking, especially since there’s already plans for a not state team tournament (of course who knows if that even goes down due to time).

In any case I think this will be a good tournament for the midwest since it’s local, but it’s looking to be quite hype. I will root for my Indiana team. They should surprise a few folks methinks.

I’ll be in sometime on Friday for some casuals.

Adam IMO it’s not really fair anyway if you wanted to roll up to a tournament that was planned months ago and say “I’m joining the main event and I’m personally picking the team from a 5-state radius” anyway. lol sure I wanted to join but not if it pisses everyone off. No beef - but it seems like this is personal for you or something. The drama that excludes people was playing was called qualifiers. Everyone understands you’re in a different state and wasn’t flying here to qualify, but if anything you should try to join the IL team as a rep of MWC? I don’t think adding $$ to the pot is the answer. Sorry to be harsh but I think you’re pushing a little hard

What might have been more interesting would have been to have the players in the 5v5 to pick a wldcard team; or registered players NOT in the 5v5 vote; or Osirun or Jesse do it, not an outsider. I think there would have been more goodwill if that’d be agreed upon.

These two posts pretty much captured my feelings exactly. I hope to see you folks there this weekend, and have a good time regardless.

I hope Osirun doesn’t mind this announcement, but I wanted to remind everyone that if you’re able to come to Summer Slam in Cleveland (June 26), Harmon and I will be taking pre-payment on Saturday night and all day Sunday.

If you pre-pay with us for the tournament you get:
$6 venue fee (pre-pay June 13 or earlier) or if you miss that window, $8 venue fee (pre-pay between June 14 and June 20)
Free appetizers
Priority seeding over everyone who does not pre-pay for the tournament.

If you bring hardware (360 + SSFIV, CRT TV or EVO-approved LCD, etc.) that we use you will be entered in a special raffle.

I’m hype for HDR and HDR teams on Sunday – Vega/mad possum, are you man enough to fight with us? EASY OPERATION! Let’s get some seriousness going. Also excited to see the salt fly for the 5v5v5v5 if we’re able to see it.

I just hope there’s more than 3 teams for HDr 3v3 lol.

Hey, I’m sick now, dunno if its allergies or what. I’m gonna pump my body full of meds and see how I feel tomorrow but coming down for casuals tonight is not likely. I hate weather changes.

i pmed webster awhile back cuz our car isnt gonna be there till saturday morning, he told me everything listed starts saturday, friday is like casuals only and any side-side tourneys that are not scheduled already. about primal rage…i dunno! thats prolly friday

As do I

ghaleon’s idea for wildcard is best. do it plz

oh also, i can bring a tv but i only have 360. would it be worth it for me to bring my stuff or not?

Would have love to have gone to this, and was all set up to go, but this morning was a real shit storm.

Basically, I turned 18 on the 14th, so I’m an “adult” now, and that’s even what my parents told me on that day. Well, I’m supposed to be “grounded” right now, but I really wanted to go to Power Up, so I set up a ride and everything, got my bags packed last night, and was ready to go this morning after arguing with my dad. Or so I thought.

We went back and forth, and apparently because he didn’t know the 3 people I was going with, he didn’t trust me going with them. He said that he was willing to fight the 3 of them to keep me from going, claiming that he was just “protecting his son” and all that. He called the cops.

Yep, not lying. He called the cops on me because I wanted to go. They came, and they told him that since i’m legally 18, if I want to go, I can go. But because i’m under his roof, that if my parents want to stop feeding me, stop letting me shower, or just plain out throw me out on my ass, they could do that. Which they wouldn’t do, because I’m an insulin-dependent diabetic and can’t afford my medicine without insurance So my dad was saying how I’m letting “this videogame” come between our family, split our family, and letting everything else go to hell, which is far from the truth. I don’t even get a chance to practice that much anymore, and I told him that. I went to just walk out the door and tell my ride to meet me at another location, but he grabbed me by the shirt and stopped me. Being that he has a bad case of congestive heart failure, and a weak heart, I couldn’t bring myself to physically do anything because I didn’t wanna give him a heart attack.

Basically, the cops told me that at the end of the day, they’re supposed to take me over to the local prison or whatever and keep me there for 20 hours “cooldown” time. That’s if I went to the tournament. If I didn’t go, they’d let things slide, since I knew both of the cops. The final verdict? I’m staying home, sneaking up to the library to type this message since I have no internet right now. Yeah. FML.

All in one day in my life. Believe it. To put it bluntly, my dad called the cops because I wanted to go to a video game tournament. Yay. I understand i’m “grounded” because i fell behind on some schoolwork, i should have done it, but Video Games wasn’t the cause of that, that’s a whole other story. My point is, this is a once a year thing, this particular tournament. Couldn’t let it slide for 2 days? Please.

My whole point is, how far is too far? Calling the cops on your kid because he desperately wants to go to a big tournament? That’s too much IMO, but you be the judge. The whole reason i was flat-out telling him I was going was because in part 1 of the argument we had the night before, he told me: “I’ve had it up to here with Video Games, so as far as i’m concerned you can get a job and leave.”

Sigh, Where they do that at, SRK?

That’s some livejournal shit right there.

Sorry man, but even if you’re 50 if you’re living with your parents and they pay the bills their rule is law.

[Get hype for Street Fighter](Get hype for Street Fighter) – something to keep this thread light.

And for Raging Storm fans: watch again to get see-wii-ous – see you all tomorrow night hopefully.

Adam (ActionHank), call me later.

I wanna know where us champaignorz are being housed. =P

Come tonight Adam!

I’m pretty sure we will be fine, I think the turnouts looking pretty good. I recruited a couple more good 'Nati HDR players that look like they will be coming as well.

I am about 90% positive i will be there on Sunday.

PS- why isnt this stickied?

Sorry to hear man, but you get my respect for showing respect.

Just remember these obstacles when you start taking top rankings in these tournies…

Hey everybody! I’m reporting from the PU2010 floor!

Well here’s something I didn’t quite anticipate, that we’d have spectators! I assumed that since we were a smaller regional we’d have exclusively players show up. Therefore, I’d like to explain how we’ll be handling any spectators at PU2010.

Spectators get in FREE! Instead of a nametag, you will receive a wristband, and the only catch is that you are not allowed to play any games at the event. This means no casuals, no playing on the arcade games. You will be a pure spectator.

Also, if we do reach our capacity as more paying players arrive, spectators will be asked to leave in order for us to avoid violating fire code.

However, if you want to hold onto to your spot, you can simply pay for the venue fee and receive a PU2010 nametag! So that’s how we’ll be handling spectators at PU2010.

Been watching the stream on and off, can’t wait to play tomorrow!

Just to squelch any HDR worries for teams, so far HDR singles is the second most registered game behind SSFIV (of course)! That bodes well for the teams tourney I think. TvC is looking better than expected also. The SSFIV character auction tourney was hype. Thanks for putting that on Keits and Frank.

The only bad thing to happen is the food situation. Luckily it isn’t a game changer. My brother, who does the catering, had his smoker go down TODAY as he was cooking the food. The parts can’t be bought in the store for this type of machine so unfortunately we won’t have the food we had planned. We will have Pizza Hut pizza for sale so there will be food to purchase still. There are plenty of other places nearby to eat if that isn’t your thing.

Make sure you are at AL by 11:30 tomorrow if you are playing SSBB or SSFIV. Registration cuts off then and the games start at NOON. See you tomorrow

CORRECTION! Super Smash Bros. Brawl singles starts at 11:30am according to the schedule. So be there early to avoid the 11am cutoff. SSFIV still starts at noon, with an 11:30am cutoff.

I was just going by the registration paper. I’m pretty sure it says noon unless I’ve looked at it wrong all day
