Agreed
not sure if its a good idea to do smash/naruto imo
Got some complaints about the SSFIV cap. The thing is, weāre not expecting 128 entrants. That number just fits well with brackets in case we get a large turnout. We may get 80 entrants for Super, or we may get 100, or maybe enough people will pre-register or register on the day of that we have a full 128 man bracket for SSFIV.
Arcade Legends has limited space. We cannot go, for example, 50 over without trouble. So the AL per day cap is 140. SSFIV is the most popular game, and has regularly large turnouts. 2 people have pre-registered for PU2010, and they will get into the venue no matter what. If 128 other SSFIV players (or players for any other game) show up on Saturday, however unlikely, I cannot then accept more than 10 more players into the venue. Those who have pre-registered get first priority, and those in line for registration then get the remainder of entry priority.
Another problem is what happens if people only want to come for one day, but we have lots of people who want to come for 3 days? I donāt want to charge people $20 if they only come for one day, but if all the 3-day people stay the whole weekend (say, 128 people for SSFIV on Saturday stay for Sundayās events), then again it comes down to pre-registration priority. If someone pre-registers for a 1-day, then I will count them toward the 140 limit. If someone walks up day of and wants to get in for one day only, then they risk being out prioritized by those with 3-day passes and those who have pre-registered.
So I cannot overstate the importance of pre-registering, and getting anyone you know who wants to come and play to also pre-register. This is how games that will probably get lower turnouts (like 3S, Melty, KOF, MvC2, etc) will get guaranteed entrants; they must pre-register to be 100% certain. If 140 people show up before you over the weekend, all buy 3-day passes, and all play in SSFIV, then thatās what the PowerUp staff will have to deal with. I would most certainly hope that these players also enter in other games like Melty, 3S, the Cabinet League, and so on, but itās not something I can or want to control. First come, first serve.
I think the SSFIV cap is smart.
OK, Nathan/Jesse, Iāll get everyone from Cleveland pre-regged through Paypal to make sure weāre good for Sunday.
Is anyone going to play Naruto for $10? Glad I just started playing KOF 2002 and itās at a time Linwood and I can make as well
3v3 remix !? oh snap! wish we could get enough people to do marvel teams or low teir
Oh Iām sure we can wrangle up enough people for a low tier tourney at least, 8 man bracket? lol.
8 is enough
OHHHHH SNAP!!! Hopefully Iāll be better prepared for āyou know what.ā
Very nice Osirun. :china:
Care to explain why? Both tournaments are well accounted for in Ohio for itās local community. So I dunno why youād suggest something like that. This isnāt IL afterall (Last Major I ran for Smash in IL had 66+ entrants for Smash though).
Oh yes indeed people will pay $10 for a Naruto tournament. Last big Naruto tournament was Angry Shinobi Circus where we had close to 25 entrants. Results thread located here:

Very nice to hear you are considering playing KOF 2k2 UM, itās a great game. Should be played by everyone.
Thanks a lot! And yeah, weāll see about Narutoās turnout. Webster told me that itās big in Cincy, and suggested $10 entry. Apparently one of the best NR3 players lives in Cincy 0_0
To add to what Nathan said, I think the main thing is that we want people to be comfortable and not smashed into the place. I hear a decent amount of complaints about tournament venues being too small, including my own (thatās including 50 arcade games that wonāt be there). Plus, this is the FIRST PowerUp tournament hopefully of many to come. We donāt want to start off on the wrong foot and have people bad mouthing the tournament. I know thereās always a few people at every tourney that donāt have a great time. Canāt be avoided it seems. Iād like to keep that to a minimum so next year we can expand. My new place will hold double the amount of people so we wonāt have to cap next year.
Phew, i just found out I had to work late Friday, so now Iām all good for Sunday!
HNK is on cab so it shouldnāt really interfere but it may add to things getting hectic. Is there going to be enough table space with the additon Raging Storm being added?
Weāve tried to space things out so that smaller games run along side bigger games. We should be ok unless an unexpectedly large number come for a game we thought to be smaller. Thatās unlikely though.
cheezface immortal needs teammates for HDR 3v3 on Sunday⦠go go go!
Webster requested 2-3 setups for RS:OH, and weāll be able to provide at least 2 for him. There should be enough space available based on the layout Iāve drawn up : )
Oh, and as a reminder to everyone, we still need systems, games, and some TVs. The setup incentive list is still a little barren, so get on that people!
Iāll bring a setup for Melty, thatās the only thing I plan on playing as of right now
Just came across this thread and it sounds awesome. Once SSF4 came out I wanted to take it to the next lvl, become better and start going to tourneys. I just wish i wouldāve came across it sooner so I could go but i will definitely come to PowerUp 2011 if you guys do it again. Props to you guys for doing something like this and i hope to see you guys in the near future.
Sent you a PM
Do your worst, Team OG Cleveland is set!
Brent, yeah, letās see what Marvel looks like and then if we have time/stations available still try a low tier or teams. I have a feeling low tier would be more popular ā like in C-bus, almost everyone who played Marvel also played low tier, but I doubt teams would have been the same story.
My guess is there wonāt be enough Marvel players to do teams lol. Letās get a concrete set of low tier rules in place if we do it. Every low tier tourney Iāve seen has a different set of rulesā¦
